Saint Petersburg, City Tour by Car - Russia 4K Travel Channel
After landing at the airport Pulkovo in St. Petersburg, our guide Vera and the driver Gerna expect us already at the airport. During our city tour by car in Saint Petersburg we want to visit Catherine Park 25 km south-east of St. Petersburg, the Hermitage Museum and make a short city tour.
First, we do not drive towards the center of St. Petersburg but to the south to the city of Pushkin. Pushkin was Russia's national poet. He spent 6 years here, visiting the Lyceum in Zarskoe Selo (Tsar village), as the village of Pushkin was called at that time.
After the October Revolution, one called it Detskoje Selo (Children's village). One accommodated orphaned children in the Alexander Palace. Later, Pushkin spent a few years there with his family, until he died. The admiration of Pushkin by the population can be explained by the fact, that the nobility in Russia spoke French until the Napoleonic Wars. Pushkin's works led to a change of heart.
At the entrance of the city, we pass the Egyptian Gate and the Cathedral of Saint Catherine. The cathedral was destroyed by the Soviets and restored only in 2010. Afterwards, we reach Pushkin's house, which is now a museum. During our visit, the Alexander Palace is closed for restoration. Catherine II built the palace for the future Emperor Alexander II. He gave the building to his brother Emperor Nicholas I.
The building served the last Czar Nicholas II and his wife Alexandra as a permanent place of residence. Here they lived a secluded life until their deportation, to protect their son, who was a hemophiliac.
After visiting the Katharine Palace, which we will show in a separate video, we leave Pushkin again and drive via the Moskovsky Prospect (Moskovsky Ave) to the north, in the center of St. Petersburg. This boulevard was once the connecting road between the Summer Palace (the Catherine's Palace) and the Winter Palace (Hermitage) and leads directly to Moscow today.
Buildings from the Stalin era characterize the boulevard. It starts at the Victory Square where a huge memorial reminds of the 24 to 40 million dead of the Soviet Union. Particular attention is paid to the deaths of the siege of Leningrad, some 1.1 million people died from starvation. One of the most monumental buildings is the House of the Soviets with a typical Lenis statue on the square in front.

Narration in French during the vidéo

4K City Walks: St Petersburg Tours Russia Evening - Virtual Walk Walking Treadmill Video takes you on an evening walk in the old capital of Russia. A city of canals and boulevards, onion domes and culture. It's a wonderful city on the baltic and you can go visa free if you take a St Petergburg cruise which is what we did. On this st petersburg tour we walk by a blue and white church or two and a couple of canals in the evening light. As a family we took a two hour guided tour. St Petersburg walking tours provide lots of options because there is so much to see and do. I couldn't get over all the beautiful buildings and wonderful architecture. The food was very good and affordable as well. Just walking around the city built by Tsars is a fantasy. The Winter Palace is the most famous but you don't need to do that if you are stretched for time.
This isn't sponsored, but if you are looking for an affordable accommodation or hotel in St Petersburg, the Meninger Hostel is actually pretty nice. They have clean rooms, breakfast, bar, maps, weather, and great advice.

Situated on the Neva River, at the head of the Gulf of Finland on the Baltic Sea, it was founded by Tsar Peter the Great on 27 May [O.S. 16 May] 1703. During the periods 1713–1728 and 1732–1918, Saint Petersburg was the capital of Imperial Russia. In 1918, the central government bodies moved to Moscow, which is about 625 km (388 miles) to the south-east.
Saint Petersburg is often considered Russia's cultural capital. The Historic Centre of Saint Petersburg and Related Groups of Monuments constitute a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Saint Petersburg is home to the Hermitage, one of the largest art museums in the world. Many foreign consulates, international corporations, banks and businesses have offices in Saint Petersburg.

Saint Petersburg Full City Guide - Russia Best Place - Travel & Discover
Swedish colonists built Nyenskans, a fortress at the mouth of the Neva River in 1611, in what was then called Ingermanland, which was inhabited by Finnic tribe of Ingrians. The small town of Nyen grew up around it.
At the end of the 17th century, Peter the Great, who was very interested in seafaring and maritime affairs, wanted Russia to gain a seaport in order to trade with the rest of Europe. He needed a better seaport than the country's main one at the time, Arkhangelsk, which was on the White Sea in the far north and closed to shipping during the winter.

First Thoughts on Russia | We Spent 48 Hours in St Petersburg, Russia
After our insane Russian visa nightmare we are so glad to arrive here in St Petersburg...these are our first thoughts on the country.
Tour we are on in Russia with On the Go Tours:
We have 48 hours in St Petersburg so we are going to show you as much as possible to do in this incredible city which started off by working out the Metro systems...going to the deepest one in Russia - Admiralteyskaya station. It's so cost effective to use the Metro system, less than a $1 and there's no zones - jump on and just jump off when you are done.
Our first stop was obviously coffee, so we went to Pyshechnaya which is a cafe set up like an old soviet style restaurant where all they sell is cheap coffee and one style of donut.
Next up we headed to the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood which is a breathtaking church best described as a gingerbread house - and if you think outside looks stunning - wait till you go inside and see the 1000's of mosaics lining the walls.
To find the best views in St Petersburg we recommend you head to St Isaac's Cathedral.
If you are looking for some of the best museums in the world - head to the Hermitage Museum (the Winter Palace) and also head to Catherines Summer Palace - both very grand and opulent.
If you want to try some Russian food - we recommend Советское кафе Квартирка - which is an old soviet style restaurant set up like an old soviet home. Amazing food - we recommend you try
We Tried Russian Food in St Petersburg
- Vareniki (Potatoes & Mushroom dumpling)
- Cherry Vareniki
- Pirzhok Pie (cabbage and egg)
- Rasstegai Pie (fish)
- Napoleon Cake with Custard
- Ukrainian Cottage Cheese Pancake
and finally 2 end your 2 days in St Pettersburg - head on a river boat to see the best views around the city :)

Rubinstein St., The Main Restaurant Street of St. Petersburg, Russia
If you're not sure where to eat in Saint Petersburg, go to Rubinstein street which is the main restaurant street in the city.
The street founded as just the lane in 1740. It used to be named as Troitsky Lane, then Troitskaya Street. And only in 1929 it was named after Anton Rubinstein, Russian composer, pianist and founder of Saint Petersburg Conservatory who used to lived at this street in a building number 38.
Rubinstein street is also known for Leningradsky Rock Club which is back in 80's gave a lot of big rock names to Russia. Enough to say the legendary Kino with Victor Tsoy played their first concerts.
In the residential building at Rubinstein street, 23, back in 60-70's lived Sergey Dovlatov, one of the most popular Russian writers and journalist . Now there is a whole memorial with his full-length sculpture.
