St. Photios Greek Orthodox National Shrine, on St. George St., an institution of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, is dedicated to the first colony of Greek people who came to America in 1768. The Shrine consists of exhibits depicting the life of early Greeks in America and the development of the Greek Orthodox Church in America, and the St. Photios Chapel.

Taken in the chapel of St. Photios Greek Orthodox National Shrine, St. Augustine, FL. Dedicated by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America to the first colony of Greek people who came to this land in 1768. During the 20-year British rule of Florida, Dr Andrew Turnbull rounded up about 1,400 Corsican, Greek, Italian and Minorcan indentured servants and left for his new colony in East Florida, which he was to name New Smyrna in honour of his wife, a native of Smyrna, the Greek city in what is now Turkey.
