Welcome to McHenry, Illinois
McHenry is a city with style that invites newcomers to share the wealth of abundant recreational opportunities enhanced by its prime location. Founded in 1837 and incorporated in 1872, McHenry remains isolated from McHenry County's other suburbs and is still surrounded by farms. It's situated along the Fox River, at the gateway of the northern Illinois Chain O' Lakes.
This is a community that is growing steadily, but it is not exploding in population because of adherence to a carefully structured comprehensive plan for development. Most of the builders in the area report that half their buyers are local residents who grew up in the city and want to remain there with their families.
McHenry is home to many of the county's largest commercial and industrial companies, including Motorola Inc., Hydraulics, Inc., and Follett Software Co., offering many excellent employment prospects. To keep the downtown district thriving, new streetscapes and facade improvement subsidy programs are in place.
With emphasis on quality in curriculum, staff, buildings and equipment, schools are highly rated by the residents. Excellent parochial school systems are in place as well, satisfying parents who seek religion-based schooling.
The McHenry Park and Recreation Department operates 32 parks that include five new soccer fields, an outdoor swimming pool, a preschool, playgrounds, tennis courts and a sledding hill. Bike trails, open space and parkland are available to residents of all ages.
With controlled growth and preservation of undeveloped land, McHenry offers a fine place to find a job, raise a family and enjoy leisure time!

Stade's Farm, located in the state of Illinois, 2012 educational video explaining crop irrigation and its benefits to market product and sweet corn crops.
Stade's Farm & Market is located in scenic McHenry County in northeastern Illinois approximately 50 miles from Chicago. We produce a variety of acres of crops that range from traditional corn and soybeans to specialty crops including many fruits and vegetables commonly grown in northern Illinois. Through our own farm market, we sell our fresh fruits and vegetables directly to consumers in our local area. Our goal is to provide our customers with the finest quality produce possible.
We have also become one of the area's most popular agri-tourism destinations. Our pumpkin picking festival, known as Shades of Autumn, is our main attraction in the fall. The family-oriented festival includes fun, food, hayrides, a petting zoo, corn maze, live music, our popular Pumpkin Cannon, and a variety of other attractions.
