Pickin' & Paddlin' 2012 @ Tumalo Creek
What began as a couple of kayakers pickin' tunes on the back deck after a long day on the river, has grown into a huge community celebration in to raise funds for the Bend Paddle Trail Alliance and their efforts to transform the Colorado Bridge Dam into Oregon's first whitewater playpark. Highlights include kayak, canoe and stand up paddle board demos throughout the late afternoon, local and regional acoustic, bluegrass and Americana acts in the evening, microbrews from Bend's best breweries, food carts, non-profit information tables and more.
With the passage of Bond Measure 9--86 in November of 2012, the majority of funding was secured for Bend Parks & Rec to construct a safe passage for tubers and a whitewater play park in place of the mill-era dam below the Colorado Bridge. The BPTA has promised to raise $900K through grants, fundraising and private donations to fund the whitewater features of the project. Currently they have $300K more to go and they need your help. All funds raised at Pickin' & Paddlin' go towards this cause.

GTKayak: Weeki Wachee (2011)
February 19, 2011: GTKayak attends the Jensen Classic Canoe and Kayak Race on the Weeki Wachee River. I brought along my GoPro HD Hero to document the 20km course. The device was set to photograph on a two second interval. I finished the race in about 2hrs17min with over 2,100 photographs recorded.
No falls during the race, but I had a pretty embarrassing fall *before* I even got to the start. There's a few frames captured under water. But then I managed to pass most of the team with the exception of David. Johanna passed me :(
Music doesn't fit the length, but the original song I chose had copyright issues.
0:11 - struggling to correctly adjust my tiller bar, fall in
0:22 - race starts. I'm not at the start.
1:19 - Johanna catches me then passes me
2:27 - tree eats me
2:50 - I get beached
3:42 - halfway point, turn around
6:06 - finish!

Legend has it that a mysterious figure haunts the frozen forests of Northern Canada. Very little known outside of the Canadian Territories and Alaska, this figure most closely resembles the Sasquatch said to roam the rainforests of the Pacific Northwest. To the Dene people who have inhabited the Athabascan wilderness since time immemorial, however, these creatures are known as Nakani.

First Blind Kayaker Down the Entire Grand Canyon!
FIRST BLIND SOLO KAYAKER GOES DOWN ENTIRE LENGTH OF GRAND CANYON
August 29th, 2013
Disabled Navy veteran Lonnie Bedwell made history last week, becoming the first completely blind solo kayaker to go down the entire length of the Grand Canyon. He achieved this feat when he completed his trek down the Colorado River supported by Team River Runner on Wednesday, August 21. Bedwell, a Navy Veteran from Dugget, Indiana, was guided by three military veterans from Team River Runner who relied only on a system of voice commands to navigate him through the entire trip, including the large, difficult Class V rapids. The 16-day journey was made possible thanks to the help of numerous volunteers and fellow veterans, as well as a generous grant from Check-6 Inc., a service disabled veteran owned company that focuses on safety and training in the energy industry.
By kayaking the entire 226-mile length of the Grand Canyon in a solo kayak, Bedwell not only made history, but he also fulfilled a dream he has long shared with Team River Runner Executive Director, Joe Mornini. Running the Grand Canyon was a dream for Joe and me, and now that dream has become a reality. I hope that other disabled persons will be able to share this feeling with me one day and achieve their dreams as well, said Bedwell.
Mornini, who co-founded Team River Runner, a chapter of Disabled Sports USA, in 2004 and currently serves as its Executive Director, praised the team effort that engendered this historic achievement and which continues to serve as the ethos of his organization. No one goes down the Grand Canyon on the river and leaves the same way they entered. Lonnie's three warrior guides, and the entire group of veterans and volunteers, formed a bond that enabled healing and empowerment for all, and a truly historic achievement as a team.
Joe Mornini has opened the doors for warriors who were wounded to find life again on the water. He is a man of singular vision and energy who saw a need and focused his sites on helping wounded veterans get back in the game, said Brian Bru Brurud, the founder of Check-6, Inc. Congratulations to Lonnie and Team River Runner on a job very well done!

Dancer had previously gotten through group round on 2014 American Idol
A talented young woman was unceremoniously thrown up into the air when a Michigan motorcyclist sped through her during a parade and left her severely injured.
Sikenya Thompson, 20, a Saginaw dancer who was a contestant on last year's season of American Idol, was dancing in a June 27 procession when the biker hit her from behind.
Dramatic video of the incident captured by an 11-year-old bystander was shown in court on Thursday, where a judge ruled that the case against driver Levandis Gray, 42, has enough evidence to go to trial.
Thompson, who suffered two broken ribs, was moved to tears as she recounted what happened and sobbed as she left the courtroom with her family after seeing the shocking video for the first time.

She had been participating in the parade with her dance group Daniels Angels during a parade celebrating the NBA Finals victory of Saginaw native and Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green.
She told a district judge Thursday that she and her fellow dancers had hear a group of motorcycles revving their engines behind them during the parade, but did not turn around as one began speeding up towards them, according to MLive.
The motorcyclists had also reportedly been performing wheelies. It was not immediately clear how fast the bike was going when it hit Thompson.
Besides damage to her ribs, she suffered gashes on her legs and chin as well as a chipped tooth. She spent spent
Her fellow dancers are seen recoiling in horror as the quiet parade changes in fractions of a second.
Thompson's dance coach Shivetta Stinson said that he was dragged by his motorcycle before running into a car. Gray reportedly suffered injuries to his head.
Gray has been charged with reckless driving causing serious impairment, a felony for which he will face up to five years in prison.
The victim achieved a small taste of fame as a performer after she advanced through the group round of 2014's American Idol contest in Los Angeles after losing her voice due to illness.
During the competition she said that her inspiration for singing came from her father, who died several years ago
Thompson was then eliminated before the show's final 30 contestants were chosen.
The performer said Thursday that her entire life has been affected by the motorcycle incident, saying that she had lost confidence in herself.
'Even though it looks like I'm OK, I'm not OK,' she said, adding that she still has scars.
A 16-year-old girl also originally said she was hurt in the motorcycle crash, according to ABC12. It is unclear whether her injuries are included in the current case against Gray.
The suspect's lawyer suggested that his client's bike malfunctioned, with some saying that the clutch on the motorcycle did not work.
The driver, who was on probation for felony gun possession, has been freed on $10,000 bond.
It's hard for me to look at myself now, because I feel like I lost confidence in myself' The only thing I do is cover up now

Beth Chapman’s Funeral Arrangements Are Pending
Instagram Beth Chapman’s funeral arrangements are pending as her family continues to mourn her tragic death. Hawaii News Now reports that the family is planning services in Hawaii and in Colorado. According to The Blast, the Chapman family “is still figuring out what type of memorial they will have.” Chapman died on Wednesday, just days after she was placed into a medically-induced coma following a “choking emergency” that occurred at her home in Hawaii. She was admitted to the ICU at Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. “It’s 5:32 in Hawaii, this is the time she would wake up to go hike Koko Head mountain. Only today, she hiked the stairway to heaven. We all love you, Beth. See you on the other side,” her husband Duane “Dog” Chapman tweeted. Beth was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2017. She underwent surgery to remove a mass in her throat and doctors were able to rid her body of all cancer cells. In November 2018, Beth found out that her cancer had returned. She underwent emergency surgery and doctors discovered that the cancer had spread to her lungs. She started chemotherapy but decided to stop the treatments as they simply “weren’t for [her].” Here’s what you need to know:Beth Chapman Wanted to Be Cremated, According to Reports Getty The Dog the Bounty Hunter star will be cremated, according to Entertainment Tonight, as those were her final wishes. It has been reported that Beth’s family was in the hospital with her when she passed away and were able to say their goodbyes. Typically, a body is cremated within hours of death — in some states, the maximum amount of time is 48 hours from the time of death to the time of cremation. The cremation process itself only takes a few hours. The ashes are then typically placed in an urn. “Sources close to the family tell us, Beth’s instructions were to have her remains cremated as part of the preparations for her final disposition. It’s currently unclear if the family plans on keeping her ashes in an urn or spreading them at a special location,” The Blast reported. According to US Funerals Online, a typical cremation in Hawaii can cost anywhere from $1,000 to $4,000.Beth Chapman Had Been Leaning on Her Faith to Help Her Through As mentioned above, Beth decided to stop her chemotherapy treatments, which is a decision that many cancer patients make. Ultimately deciding that chemo simply wasn’t for her, Beth leaning on her faith to get her through. In fact, Dog opened up about some of the last things that Beth said. “One of the last things she said [was] ‘It’s a test of my faith,'” he told the media after his wife’s death. And he too seemed to be leaning on faith to cope with the devastating loss. “I hope to god there is a God. I trained myself [to think] ‘What would Jesus do?’ and I hope I’m not just talking to myself. I hope there is a God and if there is, I’m gonna see my honey again. That’s all we can do is hope,” he told Hawaii News Now. READ NEXT: Dog & Beth Chapman: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know
Proposal for Dogs to Wear Life Jackets Near Pools
A Colorado proposal states that dogs must wear life jackets while near a pool.
Any pet lover knows that owning a dog is similar to having a child.
Well, the Pet Animal Care Facilities Program, which is a department of the Colorado Department of Agriculture is hoping that a new proposal aimed towards the safety of swimming dogs will pass.
The proposal states that every dog must wear a personal flotation device while in or while having access to a pool area whenever the pool water is deeper than the height of the dog at its shoulder.
The proposal also cites that at least one lifeguard needs to be present to watch over the swimming canines. Owners of dog care facilities aren't exactly happy, believing the costs of business operation will skyrocket if the rule is passed.
This isn't the only unusual proposal pertaining to pets. Recently, officials in Ohio imposed a ban on feeding pets outdoors at night.
The new ordinance makes the act a minor misdemeanor, even on a pet owner's own private property. According to the Barberton mayor, the new ban is in place solely to help domesticated animals, as stray food attracts pesky rodents a night.

Tragically, eight people died in this tornado, including four storm chasers. This video is an effort to make sure that we don't see a repeat of this tragic situation. It's intended for storm spotters/chasers who have some storm observation experience, but the information is important for anyone.

The Untold Truth Of The Late Beth Chapman
Beth Chapman, star of Dog the Bounty Hunter and wife of Duane Dog Chapman, was one of reality TV's most memorable faces, charming millions with her bleach blonde hair and no-nonsense attitude. But interest in the bondswoman spiked following a cancer diagnosis in September 2017. Her spirit and story proved to be an inspiration.
It might sound like a made up story, but Beth Chapman met her future husband all thanks to a lemon.
Here's what happened: In 1988, a 19-year-old Beth accidentally shoplifted the fruit while grocery shopping.
As Duane Chapman shared in his 2007 autobiography,
She was standing on line at the grocery store waiting to pay for the lemon when she received a page on her beeper from her boss...This was before cell phones, so she got out of line to use the pay phone, still holding the lemon. Store security nabbed her on the spot for shoplifting.
The incident wouldn't have been a big deal, but Beth was also caught with her boyfriend's unregistered, unlicensed gun, which Duane claimed she'd taken for safety reasons. Making things even worse, Beth was found to have a warrant out for her arrest due to unpaid parking tickets. So she went to jail, where she met Duane, her bail bondsman, and future husband.
Though the bounty hunter was married at the time, Beth later said she felt they'd be together one day. Duane joked in his memoir,
Beth loves to tell people that the minute she laid eyes on me in the office that day, she knew I would be her man.
Despite their chemistry, the couple's romance didn't blossom immediately. Both Beth and Duane spent time married to other people, occasionally stepping out with each other over the years in an off-and-on relationship. They finally ended up making things official with a televised wedding ceremony in 2006.
