We took a vacation to Key West this year and went on a paddle board eco tour with Mellow Venture. If you are looking for a good eco tour, you have to check these guys out. We went on 2 occasions and both times (with different guides) we had a blast and learned so much about the ocean life in the Keys.

In this video we show you the highlights of this paddle board adventure, which begins with an animated map of the route, explaining the start and finish points as well as the 2 options you can take. We did both sections, but the first section started at the 11th Street Public Boat Ramp on Riviera Canal. Next we headed west for approximately one mile to navigate under two bridges. After that we reversed our route and headed east on Riviera Canal for another 1 to 1.5 miles.
Next, we entered the best part of the trip, which was the MANGROVE TUNNELs out to the Salt marshes. The tunnels are amazing and it feels like you’ve been transported to Jurassic Park or to the farthest recesses of the Amazon Jungle.
➤ If you don't own a paddle board or you're visiting:
There are multiple Paddle Board shops on the island that rent paddle boards such as Lazy Dog, Mellow Ventures and Ibis Bay to name a few, but for this particular route, Lazy Dog Paddle Boarding, located at Hurricane Hole, would be the ideal location as their shop is the closest to the mangrove tunnels. Additionally, they have laminated maps available that you can take with you to help you navigate. Here’s their website:

US athlete attempts to break Guinness World Record in Stand-up Paddleboard
(26 Jun 2018) A United States athlete is attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the longest journey by stand-up paddle board, by traversing the sea between Havana, Cuba and Key West in Florida.
Victoria Burgess, from south Florida, will attempt the 100-120 mile crossing over the shark infested Florida Straits, where wind and weather are unpredictable over the summer months.
Burgess set off from Marina Hemingway, on the outskirts of Havana a little after dawn, hoping to make the shores of Key West, Florida by sometime on Wednesday, depending on weather and currents.
The athlete said she hopes the journey would foster a closer friendship between the US and Cuba.
That's what I'm here for. Friendship and love and to bring hope to everybody between US and Cuba and to show hope to women all around the world that anything can be done, Burgess said in an interview.
