The Other Coast - Soundside Outer Banks NC
WATCH IN 1080P. It's not just the ocean on the Outer Banks! Located to the east of the Outer Banks of North Carolina is the Atlantic Ocean and neighboring the western banks are the Currituck and Albemarle Sounds. The Currituck Sound borders the towns of Corolla, Duck and Southern Shores, and further south the Albemarle Sound is the western border for the towns of Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head.
There are several animal refuges that surround these sound waters, making this area a rich winter habitat for a wide variety of migrating water fowl. Long before guests flocked to the Outer Banks for beach vacations, it was the diverse wildlife in these waters and marshlands that brought visitors to hunt clubs in this region.
Three prominent Outer Banks tourist attractions are located on the Currituck Sound, including Corolla’s Whalehead Club and Currituck Beach Lighthouse and the Duck Town Park, all which provide beautifully landscaped grounds and memorable sound vistas.
Local water sport outfitters are located throughout the Outer Banks and provide sailing lessons, small boat and kayak tours, sunset cruises, pontoon boat and jet ski rentals and other adventurous options to explore the indigenous plant and wildlife on these much calmer sound waters.
Today, the sound is again becoming popular with vacationers, who embrace the water sport activities available on this shallow body of water. Parasailing, sea kayaking, stand up paddle boarding (SUP) and jet skiing are just a few options available during your stay.
For those who vacation in a soundfront home, be prepared for amazing water views and our famed North Carolina sunsets. Often sheltered from coastal winds, these homes provide a captivating waterfront haven for vacationing guests. Many homes have private piers, ideal for fishing and crabbing, and for those more adventurous souls, it’s easy to rent SUP boards, kayaks or canoes to enjoy during your stay.
The next time you plan a visit to the Outer Banks, we hope you’ll take time to enjoy all the wonderful perks of our other coast … the sound.

Radio Island, Beaufort NC 2018
Located on the edge of the Bulkhead Channel which leads to the Back Sound, the Radio Island Beach Access is a unique and wonderfully convenient beach destination for both Morehead City and Beaufort visitors. Renowned for its calm waters, sandy shorelines, and location that’s just a few minutes’ drive away from a number of coastal communities, this stretch of slightly inland shoreline that’s managed by the Carteret County Parks and Rec is a popular destination for anyone in need of a little fun in the sun.
The Radio Island Beach Access has ample parking just south of the Radio Island Marina, and from here, visitors can take a stroll along the beach where the waves are gentle, (and generally non-existent), but the views are outstanding. As a result of this calm terrain, the beach is a popular destination for kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, fishing, and other watersports that are best enjoyed in flat and shallow waters. The area can also be a fruitful shelling destination, as well as a nice spot to spread out a beach chair and catch a few rays. Located just barely off the beaten path, and yet nicely easy to reach, this local beach is a hidden gem destination that both visiting and local beach-goers will adore.

From New Bern, North Carolina to Outer Banks. We island hop with the North Carolina Ferrry System to get to Oreon Inlet National Campground. Part of the National Park system. There we set up for the night.
After recommendations we went Awful Arthur's to try some oysters. They were delicious. We couldn't stay too long because the ferry delay set us back a day. So we packed up and tomorrow we'll head towards the Wright Brothers Monument.

Carolina Dunes in Duck, NC - Outer Banks
Enjoy world famous North Carolina sunrises and sunsets over the waters that surround Carolina Dunes. A charming ocean to sound community, Carolina Dunes is on the north end of the town of Duck. The community is made up of seven roads, which are named after popular species of Ducks, and the layout creates an ideal setting for walking and biking. Many vacation homes in Carolina Dunes are positioned on high rolling dunes, offering vantage points with panoramic water views. A private pathway leads to the beautiful Currituck Sound, where you can launch kayaks and stand up paddleboards, or just escape for a few minutes of solitude and bird watching. On the Oceanside of the community, Carolina Dunes has three private oceanfront boardwalks for easy beach access. The Duck Research Pier, a private facility constructed by the Army Corps of Engineers, is located just south of the community. The Duck town center is located one mile south and a multi-use path is ideal for a short walk or bike ride to enjoy local dining options and quaint boutiques. Guests in search of secluded comfort in one of Duck’s oldest communities will enjoy all that Carolina Dunes has to offer.

Tropical Storm Danny Rain Band Approaches Carolina Beach NC 2
Rip currents can move as fast as 8 feet per second. You can easily spot a rip current by its foamy and choppy surface. The water in a rip current can be dirty brown, from the sand being turned up, and moves rapidly out to sea. Between 65% and 80% of the rescues reported on surf beaches in the Untied States can be attributed to Rip Currents!
Rip Currents, in an average year, are more deadly than lighting, hurricanes and tornadoes combined!

Kitty Hawk and Southern Shores - Outer Banks
WATCH IN 1080P. Crossing the Wright Memorial Bridge, the first town on the Outer Banks is Southern Shores. Originally a part of Kitty Hawk, the Town of Southern Shores was founded as a resort in 1946. A vast network of bike and walking trails, canals and ponds, parks and tennis courts make Southern Shores the perfect destination for those who appreciate a tranquil, natural environment. There are no public beach accesses in Southern Shores, so beaches are not heavily populated. A community marina is available to guests staying in Southern Shores. The marina provides quick access to the Currituck Sound for boating and fishing enthusiasts.
Located just south of Southern Shores is the Town of Kitty Hawk. The look and feel of this quaint town is reminiscent of earlier times, with charming cottages, unique shops and restaurants located throughout. For those who travel here to enjoy time on the water, the Kitty Hawk Bay is ideal for boating, kayaking and stand up paddleboard enthusiasts.
The Woods Road Bike Path (Pruitt Trail) is a paved multi-use path that extends the length of The Woods Road and is ideal for rollerblading, cycling and leisurely walks. Located on the north side of Kitty Hawk Road, is an 11 acres park that provides a skate park, fenced dog park, playground and picnic area with grills. Kitty Hawk beaches are centrally located and very popular with locals and visitors.

Outer Banks Beach Report: May 5, 2014
Good morning everyone and welcome to another Outer Banks beach report from Seaside Vacations.
Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Flying Pirate 5k and Half Marathon this past weekend. They sold out of tickets for the race for another consecutive year.
Beach Report
This weekend's weather was absolutely perfect on the Outer Banks. Temperatures were in the low 70's with only a little bit of wind no more than 10 mph. There were a ton of vacationers taking advantage of the ideal spring weather by beach coming and sunbathing all weekend.
High of only 62 degrees today on the OBX paired with mostly sunny skies. There is a chance for some isolated thunderstorms this afternoon and into this evening. Expect winds from the NNE at around 14 mph for a portion of today.
Surfing Report
Ocean water temperatures this morning are in the low 50's and chilly. Surf is about thigh high and clean. The wave action isn't as good as it was on Friday or Saturday, but a solid day for anyone interested in learning how to surf. You typically don't want to learn how to ride waves on a surfboard or stand up paddleboard unless the water is fairly calm.
You can save on surfing or SUP lessons with Farmdog Surf School through our Club Seaside program. The webcam on our website located at Jennette's Pier in Nags Head, NC is back up and running. You can get a look at the current conditions before you go.
The first high tide of the day was at 12:04 am and the next high tide will be at 12:42 pm. Low tide was earlier this morning at 6:38 am and the next low tide will be this evening at 6:41 pm.
Fishing Report
TW's Bait and Tackle reporting that drum fishing was off the hook on Sunday. There was also some great trout fishing for surf anglers as well in Kill Devil Hills and Nags Head.
Reportedly there were approximately 400 drum caught yesterday around Outer Banks Pier. The school of fish hung out around the pier for four hours and some anglers ended up with 40 drum each.
Thanks for checking out today's beach report and if you want to do something special for mom this year, why not take her to the Outer Banks? We have a Mother's Day promotion going on right now that includes 10% off your week-long stay as well as free early check-in and free late check-out ($180 value).
We hope to see you soon.... have fun!
