Merit Award Winner: Hatch Mott MacDonald – Safeguarding Westminster’s Water Supply
As the seventh most populous city in the state, Westminster is home to more than 100 thousand residents and it the next major Urban Center of the Colorado Front Range. But with this distinction comes the need for ensuring an ample drinking water supply.
Drinking water for Westminster, Northglenn and Thornton comes from the Farmers’ High Line Canal and other irrigation ditches and canals that feed into Standley Lake. Raw water from the lake is treated at the city’s Water Treatment Facilities are then distributed as potable water customers. Westminster found that its water supply redundancy could be improved. Specifically, should routine maintenance be required at Standley Lake or its outlet works, the city needed a method to continue sending water to the treatment facilities. Working with the City of Westminster, Hatch Mott MacDonald was able to design a robust, reliable and resilient water supply system that provides benefits for all key stakeholders and protects the environment of Standley Lake Regional Park, surrounding the lake.

Walk With Fred at North Table Mountain Park in Golden CO
Walk With Fred at North Table Mountain Park in Golden CO, Jefferson Country Open Space.
The Mesa is about 20 minutes from downtown Denver. It makes for a great after work hike or anytime when it is cooler. There is very little shade on this hike. This hike is about 5 1/2 to 6 miles and takes about 2 hours at an easy pace. There is lots of parking at the trailhead and a great bathroom with water. Hikers watch out for mountain bikers and visa versa. The pull off into the park is very short so be careful of cars following too close. Exiting the park back to Golden is tricky with the no left hand turn butt there are places to turn around just down the road, be safe.

My first aerial video of any kind. Quite literally strapped my old phone to my scratch built Axon (Experimental Airlines design) and flew around a bit.
