U.S. Senate: Impeachment Trial (Day 7)
The Senate impeachment trial of President Trump continues with opening arguments by the President’s defense team.
Impeachment trial of President Trump | Jan. 27, 2020 (FULL LIVE STREAM)
The House managers wrapped up their arguments against President Trump on Jan. 24. Trump’s team, including lawyers Pat Cipollone and Jay Sekulow, now has 24 hours to present their case. After Trump’s lawyers conclude their presentation, senators will have an opportunity to submit questions to both sides in writing. Following that, debate will turn to whether to call witnesses and subpoena documents.
Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in December for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Impeachment does not mean that the president has been removed from office. In the next phase, the Senate must hold a trial to make that determination. A Senate impeachment trial has happened only two other times in American history and once in the modern era. At the center of the Democrats’ case is that Trump sought to withhold military assistance and an Oval Office meeting until Ukraine announced investigations into former vice president Joe Biden and his son.

GOOD MORNING AMERICA'S HOMEPAGE:
The massacre of Tulsa's Black Wall Street
White mobs destroyed Black Wall Street in 1921. But where are the victims' bodies?
Become a Video Lab member!
Nearly 100 years ago, a white mob destroyed an American neighborhood called “Black Wall Street,” murdering an estimated 300 people in Tulsa, Oklahoma. That incident — known as the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre — has been largely left out of US history books. Today, a century later, the city still has a lot of questions. For one, where are the bodies of the victims? As the city's mayor re-opens the search for mass graves, we take a look at what happened back in 1921…and why finding these graves still matters to the people of Tulsa.

[SOUND EFFECT]
Alright... The first week of every month, we invite you to our preview roundtable where Dr. Ed lengel, Katherine Akey and I had talk about the coming month and the key events that happened 100 years ago. The question on the table as we sat down was, “ what WERE the big stories and themes in May 1918… What follows is our conversation.

Great War Project
So that is an overview for the coming month - but now let’s join Mike Shuster - Former NPR corresponded and curator for the Great War Project blog as he explored another key battle that plays out on the Western Front… The battle between the Allied Generals and American General John J. Pershing.
They did not see eye-to-eye at all… and Black-Jack Pershing was not going to waver from his belief about how the US army needed to engage.
It sound like it was more than just a little contentious Mike!

War in the Sky
America's Top-Scoring Ace Scores his First Victory
It is a changing of the guard, for the War in the Skies over Europe 100 years ago this April and May.
In April 1918, Germany’s Manfred von Richthofen falls,
and in May America’s Raoul Lufbery.
One of the new names that rises among these ashes is that of a Columbus Ohio native every bit as much of a flamboyant character as the early fliers. Before joining the service, he was a famed race car driver who set a land speed record at Daytona of 134 miles per hour - a tough guy, technically too old to be accepted into flight school, and a guy who claimed he was afraid of heights - His name was Eddie Rickenbacker…
Born the oldest son of 5 siblings 1890 -- young Eddie had to step up to become the major family breadwinner, quitting school at only 12 years old, when his

Starr Forum: 70 Years: Israel-Palestine – Reflections & Forecasts Looking Back
This spring marks 70 years since the establishment of the State of Israel. The events of 1948 are celebrated as Israeli Independence and lamented as the Palestinian Nakba. The date is a reminder of the array of narratives on this history and the untold interpretations of its social and political convolutions. Just as substantial are the constant, weighty questions regarding future directions that can be taken by these two peoples. This conference will bring together Israelis, Palestinians, and Americans to discuss and debate the history, the politics, and the current critical moment, which holds equal portions of hope and despair.
