Western Mass Runs the Boston Marathon | Connecting Point | April 11, 2019
April 15th is Marathon Monday— the day about 30,000 runners and up to a million spectators descend on the streets and suburbs of Boston for the Boston Marathon. As always, several western Mass runners will be participating in the event. Some have run it before, and others will be participating for the first time. Connecting Point Producer Dave Fraser caught up with a few runners who have been training all winter to run Boston this year and brings us the story.

Final line of the BOSTON MARATHON
The Boston Marathon is one of the annual events in the city of Boston, Massachusetts, which are part of the Patriot's Day celebrations, and which takes place on the third Monday in April. The first time this race was held was in 1897, inspired by the introduction of this sport as part of the Summer Olympics in 1896, becoming the oldest annual marathon. Today it is one of five called World Marathon Majors, including the marathons of Berlin, London, Chicago and New York.
The Boston Marathon The 42-kilometer course runs from its start in Hopkinton, Massachusetts, through winding roads through the streets of Boston, to Copley Square, where the official goal is, next to the Boston Public Library . Runners take advantage of the characteristics of the road such as downhill slopes and the wind in favor, but also face challenges such as climbing the Newton Hills State Park, being the rise of Heartbreak Hill the most famous, in the final part of the route, near the Boston College
