The first residential building in St. Petersburg: Cabin of Peter the Great
The cabin of Peter the Great (is a small wooden house which was the first St Petersburg palace of Tsar Peter I.
The log cabin was constructed in three days in May 1703, by soldiers of the Semyonovskiy Regiment. At that time, the new St Petersburg was described as a heap of villages linked together, like some plantation in the West Indies. The date of its construction is now considered to mark the foundation of the city.
The design is a combination of an izba, a traditional Russian countryside house typical of the 17th century, and the Tsar's beloved Dutch Baroque, later to evolve into the Petrine Baroque. Peter built similar domiki elsewhere in Russia - for example, in Voronezh, and Vologda. The wooden cabin in St Petersburg covers only 60 square meters (650 sq ft) and contains three rooms - living room, bedroom, and study. It has large ornate windows and a high hipped roof of wooden tiles. Inside, the wooden walls were painted with red oil to resemble brick, and the rooms came to be known as the red chambers. There are no fires or chimneys, as it was intended to be used only in the warmer summer months. It was occupied by the Tsar between 1703 and 1708, while Peter supervised the construction of the new imperial city and the Peter and Paul Fortress.
The cabin was moved to its present location, 6 Petrovskaia Naberezhnaia, in 1711 from its original site on the north bank of the River Neva close to the present Winter Palace. Peter had it encased for its protection within a red brick pavilion in 1723 and ordered that it be preserved for posterity as a memorial to his modesty, and the creation of St Petersburg ex nihilo. Catherine the Great ordered the shelter for the cabin to be renovated in 1784, and the protective brick pavilion was reconstructed by Nicholas I in the 1840s. Nicholas I also had the bedroom converted into a chapel dedicated to Christ the Redeemer, and iron railings were added in 1874.
Peter's domiki were used to mark significant dates, such as the bicentenary of Peter's birth in 1672. They became a center of devotion to the tsar, the Russian Orthodox Church, and the Russian motherland. An image of the log cabin was included on the Peter the Great Fabergé egg, created in 1903 to celebrate the bicentenary of the founding of St Petersburg. After the Russian Revolution, they became symbols of Russian heroic labor.
A prized national monument, the contents were removed, and the Cabin was boarded up and camouflaged during the Second World War. It was the first St Petersburg museum to reopen in September 1944, after the end of the Siege of Leningrad. Personal and domestic objects owned and used by Peter are still displayed within, and a bust of Peter by Parmen Zabello stands outside. The cabin is open to the public as a branch of the Russian Museum.

Russia: Take a peek at Kaliningrad's state of the art 2018 World Cup stadium
Footage released on Wednesday shows the all-new Arena Baltika taking shape on the banks of the Pregolya River in Kaliningrad ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
It hasn't always been smooth sailing in terms of the stadium's construction, with a terminated contract along the way, but with building work having started in 2015 the arena looks set to be completed at some point this year.

Russia: chemical train explosion injures 17
An explosion on a freight train 1,000 kilometres from Moscow has injured 27 people.
The accident happened near Belaya Kalitva station in the Rostov-on-Don region.
Carrying chemicals and oil products at the time, one of the railcars hit the sixth floor of a residential building.
Thirteen people are in hospital and a criminal investigation is looking for safety breaches.

File of stadiums in Russia where World Cup 2018 will take place
(30 Nov 2017) The finishing touches were put on stadiums in the 11 Russian cities that will host the 2018 World Cup.
Arenas in Moscow, St Petersburg, Kazan, Sochi, Volgograd, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, Saransk, Ekaterinburg, Kaliningrad and Nizhny Novgorod will host matches in the tournament which will take place in June and July of next year.
The construction works were nearly finished on most stadiums with the exception of the Samara Arena where developments are behind schedule and in Saransk where there are questions over whether the pitch will be ready.
The World Cup is being seen as a platform for the Russians to shed their pariah status in sports following a series of doping allegations.

Russia is undertaking a large-scale project of building sports facilities and necessary infrastructure for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. According to Sports Minister, Vitaly Mutko, the approximate cost of the project will amount to 600 billion rubles. Private investors will take half of the costs upon themselves.
About 40 percent of the sum announced by the Minister will be directly spent on the construction of stadiums. The remaining 60 percent will be spent on infrastructure - construction of roads, hotels, airports, and training bases. A great job has been done already: three stadiums in Kazan, Sochi and Yekaterinburg have been built, and construction of stadiums in St. Petersburg and Moscow has started. According to President of the football club Spartak, Leonid Fedun, the first match at the capital's Otkrytie Arena in Tushino will be held this July. And construction of all approved stadiums will start in August, except the Luzhniki Stadium, where the dismantling of the old arena is now under way.
Matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup will be held in 11 Russian cities, including Samara. The project of the Samara Stadium has already passed the state examination. German designers working there have the vast experience of over ten stadiums that have hosted the matches of World and European Championships in Germany, South Africa, Ukraine and Poland. Esta edición del evento se llevará a cabo en Rusia entre el 14 de junio y el 15 de julio de 2018, siendo la primera oportunidad en ese país para organizar el campeonato y la primera vez en la historia que se celebrará en un país de Europa del Este.

Kazán Situada a orillas del majestuoso río Volga, a unos 800 km al este de Moscú, Kazan fue fundada en 1005 por los protobúlgaros como una fortaleza y un importante centro comercial.
El centro histórico está formado por antiguas mansiones, casas de comerciantes, edificios culturales e industriales del siglo XIX y principios del XX. Inside government buildings controlled by pro-Russian insurgents
Gunmen in camouflage uniforms stood guard on Tuesday outside seized government offices in Luhansk, one of the largest cities in eastern Ukraine.
Armed militas are now in control of most government offices in the city, including the regional administration building and prosecutor's office.
Barricades made from tyres and barbed wire have been built outside the city's regional administration building, windows smashed and sandbags placed in bottom windows.
But one insurgent, Oleg Desyatnichenko, said that despite the fact the building was now being occupied by militia groups, employees had come to work as usual.
Russian flags flew alongside the ribbon of St George, increasingly seen in Ukraine as a pro-Russian symbol, while emblems of Ukraine were smashed and thrown on the ground.
After talks with the insurgents it was agreed that Luhansk TV would broadcast as normal said Vitaly Karkusha, Acting General Director of Luhansk Television.
But a local police spokesperson told reporters that armed men had attempted to seize the regional police headquarters on Monday, but the building remained in the hands of Ukrainian police.
Insurgents now control buildings in about a dozen cities in eastern Ukraine, demanding broader regional rights as well as greater ties or outright annexation by Russia.
Eastern Ukraine, which has a large Russian-speaking population, was the heartland of support for ousted Ukrainain President Viktor Yanukovych.

Members of the Organisation of Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) held a meeting in Rostov-on-Don, Wednesday, ahead of their monitoring mission to observe the current and future situation along the Ukrainian and Russian borders.
Deputy Governor of the Rostov region Vadim Artemov also attended the meeting, stating he expects regional law enforcement agencies to have constructive co-operation with the OSCE during their mission, adding he looks forward to a speedy end to the bloodshed in Ukraine.

Estadio de Kaliningrado - FIFA Russia 2018
El Estadio de Kaliningrado, también conocido por su nombre Arena Baltika, es un estadio de fútbol en planificación y diseño cuya construcción se completará para albergar la Copa Mundial de Fútbol de 2018. También será el estadio local del equipo FC Baltika Kaliningrado.
Se decidió construir un estadio nuevo en de la ciudad de Kaliningrado debido a que el estadio con el que cuenta la ciudad (Estadio Baltika) no tiene suficiente capacidad, es muy antiguo y no esta bien ubicado para un evento de tal envergadura. Por tal razón se pensó en un estadio con más capacidad, más moderno y con mejor acceso. Había un factor extra a considerar en el proceso de diseño del estadio: la capacidad del estadio tiene que ser reducida a aproximadamente 25 000 asientos cuando termine el mundial, con el fin de que el estadio pueda seguir siendo útil a la población relativamente pequeña de la región.
El estadio ya no estará situado en la parte oriental de la ciudad, sino que este se ubicará a orillas del Río Pregolya. Los diseñadores intentaron integrar el aspecto histórico que se encuentra a las afueras de Kaliningrado, con el agua que corre a lo largo del río junto al estadio. Luego de esto está para nombrar dentro de las relaciones el puerto de la ciudad que también le da un toque a las características artísticas de la construcción. Lo que quisieron hacer los diseñadores fue entregarle a los habitantes y visitantes de Kaliningrado un lugar en el que pudieran disfrutar del mejor fútbol del mundo durante el mundial y que con el paso del mismo sirviera para otras actividades y no solo el fútbol

First of all, I would like to thank you for your constructive and intensive labour, for the rich and bountiful harvest grown by your hands and care, and for the excellent results that Russia is proud of. Today the agro-industrial complex is one of the drivers of national economic development. Our grain growers, livestock breeders and processing industry workers are proving by their actions that they can do business in a modern way, efficiently and assiduously. Relying on the best centuries-old traditions of the Russian peasantry, they are capable of setting records. This year we are expecting the biggest grain harvest in the history of modern Russia – about 115 million tonnes. Our country is in the lead in grain exports. I would like to note the good growth dynamics in other key sectors of the agro-industrial complex. In a word, Russia's agriculture is on the rise. The state will continue rendering its large-scale assistance and will support those who want to work the land and achieve success. Certainly, we will pay special attention to improving people's living standards, developing agricultural land and building modern social infrastructure facilities there. I am confident that our producers can fully supply the domestic market with quality food products: we have the potential to turn Russia into one of the world's largest food producers. This was an abandoned gun factory that was still privately owned. I got permission to go inside and was given a tour. Part of the building is still used for the new gun factory which still produces guns so they use this abandoned place for extra storage.

what had become the Polish People's Republic. Between this time, industrial workers would work in military factories disguised as normal factories
Often times having the lower level floors consist of a sewing factory while the upper floors were secretly producing weapons for Soviet Russia. Workers
were often treated poorly and a lot were longing for their freedom
Communism in Poland then came to an end when Lech Walensa gathered working people together and formed a Union called Solidarity,
demanding worker rights, better working conditions and wages. His movement
would ultimately overthrow communism in Poland. This abandoned building i'm about to explore
embodies just that.

Всем привет. Мы - в Северной Осетии, небольшой республике на самом юге России.
15 лет назад здесь случился самый страшный теракт в нашей истории. 1 сентября прямо во время праздничной линейки террористы захватили школу №1 города Беслан. В заложниках оказалось более 1000 человек, три дня их удерживали без еды и воды в душном, тесном и обвешанном взрывчаткой спортзале.
Когда случился штурм, большая часть заложников была освобождена, но 334 человека погибли, 186 из них - дети.
Про Беслан снято много видео, но это совсем не причина не вспоминать про эту трагедию вновь.
Когда изучаешь обстоятельства этого теракта, хочется кричать и плакать - от ужаса, злобы, сочувствия и боли. В этом выпуске мы покажем людей, которые продолжают жить нормальной жизнью, как бы сильно по ним этот теракт ни ударил. Мы покажем, что Беслан - это не только кошмар 2004 года, но и очень сильные люди, которые уже полтора десятилетия ведут героическую борьбу за свое здоровье и счастье.
Ну и вообще - чем чаще и громче напоминать про Беслан, тем лучше. Вот наша логика:
- когда-то государство допустило ошибки, которые привели к беде;
- теперь государство должно окружить максимальной заботой всех, кто пострадал.
И только через эту заботу оно может заслужить прощение, а после - и доверие людей.
Делает ли государство все, чтобы его простили?
Делает ли государство все, чтобы ему доверяли?
Или кто-то очень стесняется этой темы и делает все, чтобы никогда и никак ее не касаться?

Мы в Португалии, на мысе Рока, самой западной точке континентальной Европы.
Уже неделю мы находимся в пути и снимаем новый сложносочиненный выпуск.
Один из самых грустных фактов про Россию звучит так: больше 50 процентов населения нашей страны никогда не были за границей.
Понятно, что основная причина – в том, что люди за пределами Москвы и еще пары городов живут очень скромно.
Но параллельно с этим уже много лет нам рассказывают, как же за пределами России плохо. Эмигранты, гей-парады, бездуховность – ну вы сами все знаете.
Наша позиция: путешествия – это неотъемлемая часть процветания и прогресса. Если ты видишь, как устроен чужой мир, тебе гораздо проще обустраивать мир собственный. Ну а если где-то действительно плохо, лучше узнавать об этом самому, а не по пламенным речам людей из телевизора.
Поэтому мы придумали следующее:
1. Выбрали очень классный и – важное – НЕпопсовый маршрут по Европе.
2. Взяли с собой человека, который не так искушен путешествиями, как мы.
Те, кто смотрел наш выпуск про Колыму, наверняка помнят Антоху – нашего водителя, очень яркого парня, который появился всего на пару минут, но покорил абсолютно всех. Антохе 33 года и он никогда не был за пределами стран бывшего Советского Союза.
Мы проехали почти 1500 километров от Страны Басков до Лиссабона – таким образом, чтобы Антоха, житель самого востока Евразии, оказался в самой западной ее точке.
У выпуска, который вы увидите, две задачи:
1. Интересно провести время
2. Показать, что мир – большой и классный. И гораздо лучше быть частью это мира, а не настороженно смотреть на него из-за забора.

La Copa Mundial de la FIFA 2018 Rusia - FIFA - será la 21ª edición de la Copa Mundial de Fútbol.
Esta edición del evento tendrá lugar en Rusia entre el 14 de junio y el 15 de julio de 2018, siendo la primera oportunidad en ese país para organizar el campeonato y la primera vez en la historia que se celebrará en un país europeo del Este.
Rusia confirmó 12 estadios en 11 ciudades: Ekaterimburgo, Kaliningrado, Kazán, Krasnodar, Moscú, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov del Don, San Petersburgo, Samara, Sochi, Volgogrado y Saransk, que albergarán la Copa Mundial de 64 partidos.
Kazan Situado a orillas del majestuoso río Volga, a unos 800 km al este de Moscú, Kazan fue fundado en 1005 por los proto-búlgaros como una fortaleza y un importante centro comercial.
El centro histórico está formado por antiguas mansiones, casas de comerciantes, edificios culturales e industriales del siglo XIX y principios del XX. Caminaremos por Bauman Street, la arteria peatonal principal en el centro, donde se encuentra la Catedral de Pedro y Pablo, en estilo barroco ruso, que se levanta en perfecta armonía con el edificio clásico junto a la Universidad Estatal de Kazan. La calle Kremlyovskaya es el centro cultural de la ciudad, muy cerca del Teatro Dramatice Bolshoi, la Ópera de Kazán, la Biblioteca Nacional y el Ayuntamiento. Al otro lado del canal Bolaq y el lago Qaban, entraremos en el antiguo distrito tártaro de la ciudad, donde los tártaros tuvieron que establecerse después de la conquista de Kazan por los rusos. La mezquita de Mardzhani, la mezquita de Azimov y muchos otros levantan sus minaretes en esta área históricamente musulmana. En la confluencia del río Kazanka con el poderoso Volga admiraremos el Monumento a los Soldados Caídos, el Palacio de Agricultura y la moderna construcción del Circo de Kazan. Terminaremos nuestra visita panorámica en el Kremlin de Kazán.
Visita del Kremlin de Kazán. El antiguo Kremlin domina la ciudad e impresiona por su magnitud y poder. En la confluencia de los ríos Kazanka y Volga, el fuerte protobúlgaro de madera del siglo XII, destruido por los mongoles, fue reconstruido por los tártaros como una fortaleza que protegía su principado. Después de la conquista de la ciudad, Iván IV el Terrible ordenó la reconstrucción del Kremlin de Kazán siguiendo el mismo modelo. Fue completado entre 1556 y 1562 por los maestros de Pskov. Dentro de su recinto amurallado se encuentran numerosos edificios históricos, el más antiguo de los cuales es la Catedral de la Anunciación (1561-62). Al igual que muchos otros edificios de la época, se construyó sobre la piedra arenisca tradicional local, en lugar de ladrillo, material utilizado en casi todo el resto de Rusia. Al lado está la Casa del Obispo.
