[SRT] First Class Train Experience Onboard 'Isan-Wattana'
Presenting to you a train journey I recently made on board State Railway of Thailand (SRT) from Bangkok to the north-eastern city of Ubon Ratchathani using the newly formed Special Express No. 23, also named as 'Isan-Wattana'.
This train is formed using the brand new coaches brought in from CRRC Changchun of China. Brought in 2016, a total of 115 coaches were bought in by SRT consisting of a mixture of Power Generator Cars, First Class & Second Class Sleeper Coaches and Restaurant Cars. These coaches are currently deployed to 4 different services namely;
Train 9 & 10: Bangkok - Chiang Mai - Bangkok
Train 23 & 24: Bangkok - Ubon Ratchathani - Bangkok
Train 25 & 26: Bangkok - Nong Khai - Bangkok
Train 31 & 32: Bangkok - Hat Yai - Bangkok
In my perspective, it was an amazing experience with a whole new level of comfort, facilities and amenities and I truly enjoyed the train journey. Kudos to the train crew and SRT for the truly amazing experience!
Comments and feedback are always welcomed.

Riding the State Railway of Thailand (Bangkok, Thailand)
The State Railway of Thailand or SRT is the state-owned rail operator under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Transport in Thailand. As of 2018, the network serves 47 provinces and around 35 million passengers annually. The passenger count is expected to double by 2027 when expansion plans are realized and the network grows to serve 61 provinces.
It is the most popular way to travel from Bangkok to Ayutthaya. Tickets are easily bought in the station without any need for reservation. The third class ticket is almost always the only kind of ticket available, but it is cheap at B30 per person. The seats are non-reserved and the train cars are not air-conditioned but it is very comfortable and scenic. The train is super slow with so many stops around Hua Lamphong Station but after it leaves the Bangkok area, the trains picks up speed.

Hua Lamphong train station [SRT, ]Bangkok, Thailand
Just spotting some trains at the railway station. The ALD24c locomotive is coupling up and then pulling the Nakhon Si Thammarat Rapid bound train number 173. The first three coaches will go as far south on the southern line to Surat Thani where they will be uncoupled from the rest of the train before the train continues to Nakhon Si Thammarat. The train departed Bangkok at around 17:35 and will arrive at its final stop at 09:55 the next day. As the train departs the green flag is shown by the signal man on the platform and the one who boards the train. While waiting for the train to depart I met up with some French families who were on there way to Surat Thani for vacation.

Sleeper train crossing Rama VI Bridge, Bangkok - State Railway of Thailand, Thailand
The No.31 Sleeper service from Bangkok to Hat Yai, crossing Rama VI Bridge, which carries the railway over the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, Thailand. This was the first bridge to cross the Chao Phraya River, construction started in 1922, with the official opening in 1927. Sadly the original bridge was severely damaged during World War II. The bridge was reopened, following repairs, in 1953, having had all trusses replaced. The bridge spans 460 metres, with the 5 main spans measuring 77, 84, 120, 84 and 77 metres. The inscription on the plaque above the bridge reads Rama 6 Bridge, Restored B.E. 2496 (1953).
The train is hauled by a Japanese Hitach locomotive, No. 4511, which was built in 1993 and has a top speed of 100km/hr and 2,860hp.
