Florida Keys Special 2019 | Art Loft 713 Full Episode
FLORIDA KEYS - Art Loft takes a dive into the Florida Keys - and this time, quite literally!
First up, photographer Stephen Frink is the conduit for those who can't travel underwater. But do the same rules of photography apply on the ocean floor?
Then we travel to Islamorada where a conceptual cartoonist evokes emotions we've always had, but may not have ever been able to articulate.
In Marathon, a water sports park has a message about the human impacts on the environment - and they are using street art to illustrate it.
As we move into the Lower Keys, a stained and fused glass artist in Stock Island is using an intricate hand painted technique that is not often used.
And finally, we hit Key West where we meet author and historian Arlo Haskell. Did you know cigar manufacturing was actually pioneered by the Jewish community in Key West and not the Cuban community? We discover this and more in his latest book.

Joyriding Helicopter in The Florida Keys
Helicopters are a very common sight here, with the helicopter tours, Air Force base, mosquito control sprayer, law enforcement, and medivac helicopters all active in The Keys. This footage was taken with an iPhone from a third story window. Not sure what they were doing, but it was fun to watch.

Wooden Boat Fishing, Me and my stuff:
My Boats:
The original single seater Kayak is a Great Auk designed by Nick Shade of Guillemot Kayaks and built by me with my own two hands. It’s 16 1/2 feet long (the design is 17 feet, but I scaled it to fit in the garage I built it in) and 24 inches wide. This was the first boat I ever built.
“Tiny” the double kayak is another Nick Shade design (Micro Bootlegger) and was also built by me. Videos of the later parts of the build are on my channel for your perusal (don’t forget to like and comment). It’s 18 feet long and 28 inches wide, for a stable and roomy ride, even with a bunch of fishing stuff riding along with me (or a second person).
My “Three Week Canoe” was, once again, built by yours truly, and you can see the entire build in my award winning video series “The Three Week Strip Canoe Build”. Available on a computer screen near you. The design is the classic “Puddle Duck” by Gil Gilpatrick.
Last by not least (just kidding, yes it is), is my experimental and highly controversial “Stand Up Paddle Pontoon Catamaran Mini Party Barge”. Built AND designed by me, with no help or consultation of any kind from anyone. Which may explain why it confuses the hell out of anyone who sees it and why it has never actually been in the water (as of this writing anyway). Stay tuned for the launch, it’s gonna be amusing.
My Bike:
My bike is a Schwinn (don’t you just love saying that?) Meridian Trike, because nothing says secure in his masculinity like riding down the side of US1 on a tricycle (I’m thinking of starting a trike club, we’ll get heavy leather jackets and sweat a lot, how cool am I?). Mine is tricked out with an LED headlight for early morning rides, a gigantic basket to hold all of my stuff, and four custom made PVC rod holders held on with the best hose clamps money can buy.
Fishing Gear:
My gear is mostly whatever cheap stuff I find at yard sales or on clearance, but when I buy quality it’s usually the Penn Fierce II series of spinning rod and real combos. What I like best about this Penn line is the name. Seriously, who doesn’t want to be “Fierce” (they work pretty well too). I’m also a fan of Mustad hooks (when I’m not cheating out and buying generics).
Cameras:
I have two primary cameras and a back up. The primaries are a GoPro Hero4 Black that I chose because someone offered it to me in trade for an arcade game I was trying to get rid of, and a GoPro Hero Session 4 that was a fathers day gift, so I will worship and treasure it forever (or until it quits working, whichever comes first). My backup camera is an iPhone 7 because, well duh, its got a camera built right in.
I do all of my editing on my iMac desktop computer because I’m old enough that I don’t just do it all on a laptop and I use the free GoPro Studio editing software because I’m cheap and don’t want to have to learn to use something better.
That’s me and my stuff. See you on the water.

Chris Bent 2013 Interview | Office | Navy SEAL Book | Motivation
author of 1-800- I-AM-UNHAPPY book series.
Chris Bent Author Interview Part 5 | Former Navy SEAL Author | Former Navy SEAL Stories | Motivation
Interviewer: So I noticed you've got this wall here with all these photos on it; what is this Chris?
Well, my wife made the big mistake of letting me take this little warehouse space and have it as my office, and so when she was out of town, I went to town.
A long time ago I wasn't fat, and if you see this, this is called a duck feet swim fin, and for instance, one day in training we swam from the island of Vieques over to the mainland of Puerto Rico. They dropped us in the water like at 7:00 a.m. and we got there at 4:00 or 5:00 in the afternoon. I remember swimming over a school of a hundred hammerhead sharks and we just kept swimming.
I was really blessed to get involved in spacecraft recoveries, and this is all in 1965, 1966. This happens to be the very first Apollo spacecraft AS-201 that went up into space and came back. It was an unmanned sub-orbital flight, it came down off of Ascension Island in the South Atlantic, and I was the first human being to touch an Apollo spacecraft that came back from space. That's pretty cool.
We had a thing called Underwater Swimmers School back then in Key West, Florida, and my class, it's our 50th reunion this summer, so I'm excited about going there. I haven't seen most of these guys for 50 years. There are 11 of us left. And I happen to be first there, and Bob Gormly beat me otherwise.
This is a haunting picture taken more recently off of Coronado during BUDS training, and these are IBSs, or Inflatable Boats Small, and you paddle them out into the surf and you get murdered. I knew a little bit about surf, so when I was doing this back in Puerto Rico, when the raft flipped over and it was all chaos, I dove under the wave. But this picture is so moving 'cause this is the DDG-112, The USS Michael Murphy, and I happened to know Michael Murphy before he went into the Navy and a friend of mine and myself worked on his recruiting and getting him into the right kind of shape; a wonderful guy and he gave up his life; that's what the movie Lone Survivor was about, and I commissioned watercolors to be done.
This is a certificate I'm going to give all my 11 guys that I had created by a friend who is an artist. I'm going to give it to them this summer.
This is on a sub, getting ready to lock out, and then this is the actual recovery of Gemini 7 in December of 1965. That's me, arms up, and that's Frank Borman, and this is practicing for that off of Bermuda, and it's a great photograph to start a conversation with young kids.

Impeachment trial of President Trump | Jan. 31, 2020 (FULL LIVE STREAM)
A crucial vote is anticipated Jan. 31 on whether to call witnesses in the Trump impeachment trial, including former national security adviser John Bolton. In a manuscript of his new book, Bolton reportedly says that Trump directly tied the holdup of nearly $400 million in military assistance to Ukraine to investigations of the Bidens.
Trump was impeached by the House of Representatives in December for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Impeachment does not mean that the president has been removed from office. In the next phase, the Senate must hold a trial to make that determination. A Senate impeachment trial has happened only two other times in American history and once in the modern era. At the center of the Democrats’ case is that Trump sought to withhold military assistance and an Oval Office meeting until Ukraine announced investigations into former vice president Joe Biden and his son.

Impeachment trial of President Trump | Jan. 30, 2020 (FULL LIVE STREAM)
House impeachment managers and President Trump’s lawyers have concluded their opening arguments in the Senate. The impeachment trial is now in the question period for both sides, when senators submit questions in writing to Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. The chief justice will read questions out loud, alternating between the majority and minority for up to eight hours.

Impeachment trial of President Trump | Jan. 27, 2020 (FULL LIVE STREAM)
The House managers wrapped up their arguments against President Trump on Jan. 24. Trump’s team, including lawyers Pat Cipollone and Jay Sekulow, now has 24 hours to present their case. After Trump’s lawyers conclude their presentation, senators will have an opportunity to submit questions to both sides in writing. Following that, debate will turn to whether to call witnesses and subpoena documents.

Man Living in a 10'x10' Tiny House & Homesteading in the City
Rob Greenfield's latest sustainable living project is to live in a DIY 100 ft² tiny house for two years while foraging and growing 100% of his own food in an urban area. You can follow more of Rob's adventures in sustainable living on YouTube and on his website here:
We are thrilled to be featuring Rob on our channel, and we learned so much from him just with this one video collaboration. In addition to living in his tiny home, he's figuring out how to create his own cooking fuel using a biodigester, he's growing his own toilet paper, and he even makes his own sea salt.
He built the tiny house in the backyard of someone who was looking to live more sustainably. In exchange for a place to build the home, he created a rainwater collection system, an extensive garden on the front lawn, a bio digester and composting system, and more.
Obviously, we can't all live like Rob is doing in this video (although it does look like a healthy, simple, and rewarding lifestyle), but we can get inspired to make positive changes in our own lives. Maybe start composting or eating more fresh food, creating less garbage, riding our bikes more, etc. That's what we're inspired to do after working on this video with him :)
We also want to say a huge thank you to Brandon Kari for filming this footage of Rob and his tiny house homestead for us. You can check out Brandon's work on his website here:

Shipping Container Home Designed For Sustainable Family Living
In this weeks episode, we explore this lovely family home which has been constructed using shipping containers. Named the South Coast Container House, this home has been sustainably constructed using four shipping containers and has also been extended to enclose communal spaces. At 95 square meters (1000 square feet) this home is capable of sleeping 10 people and has been divided into a main 85 square meter home, with an additional 15 square meter sleep-out made from a single 20ft shipping container.
