Amsterdam, Stedelijk Museum - STEDELIJK BASE opens on 16 December. AMO architects Rem Koolhaas and Federico Martelli developed a playful, lightweight exhibition concept specifically for this new collection presentation at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. Seven hundred highlights from the collection are presented in a landscape of freestanding, ultra-thin walls created especially for this installation. This unique architectural feature was made possible through the innovative application of steel.STEDELIJK BASE is divided over two spaces. Art from 1880 to 1980 is featured in the lower level gallery (Part 1), while a presentation of art after 1980 is located on the first floor (Part 2). Between the two floors, on the mezzanine, the visitor enters an immersive artwork by Barbara Kruger. In 2010 Kruger developed a wall wrap especially for the Stedelijk. The work incorporates confrontational, emotionally-charged statements about what people think of each other. Kruger wrote texts for this wall installation herself, but also quoted from George Orwell's novel, 1984, and the notebooks and writings of philosopher Roland Barthes. It is a powerful, challenging work, realized here for the third time at the Stedelijk.

Stedelijk Museum (Dutch pronunciation: [steːdələk myzeːjɵm ˌɑmstərdɑm]; Amsterdam Municipal Museum) is a modern art museum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Founded in the 1870s, it is the largest museum of modern and contemporary art in the country. The museum is located on Museum Square (Museumplein), near the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum.

Performance Joseph Sassoon Semah
Joseph Sassoon Semah zit drie dagen in zijn huis van celbetonblokken waarin hij voorleest uit zijn dertigjarige onderzoek naar de ‘lege’ pagina in de kunstgeschiedenis. In een performance programma met vijf performances op 20, 21 en 22 oktober in het Stedelijk Museum wil hij laten zien dat het museum ook een plek is waar verschillende interpretaties en visies op kunst tot hun recht komen.

Performance Joseph Sassoon Semah
Joseph Sassoon Semah spends three days in his house of concrete blocks reading from his thirty-year research on the empty pages in art history. In a performance program with five performances on October 20, 21 and 22 in the Stedelijk Museum, Joseph Sassoon Semah wants to demonstrate that the museum is also a place where various interpretations and visions on art are substantiated.

Koningin Beatrix opent vernieuwd Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam
Koningin Beatrix heeft het vernieuwde Stedelijk Museum feestelijk heropend.
De vorstin onthulde een handgeborduurd vaandel dat ontworpen is door de jonge Britse kunstenaar Rory Pilgrim. Het Nationaal Jeugdkoor zong een a capella koorwerk dat de kunstenaar componeerde.
Burgemeester Eberhard van der Laan van Amsterdam hoopt dat het Stedelijk weer dé aanjager wordt van moderne kunst in Nederland. Dat werd 'node gemist' tijdens de lange wachttijd waarin het museum werd verbouwd, zei hij tijdens de openingsceremonie. 'We hopen op zinderende en controversiële programma's die de zinnen prikkelen, de gedachten bezighouden en de tongen losmaken.'
Tal van artiesten maakte tot laat in avond hun opwachting om de opening in te luiden. Onder anderen zangeres Wende Snijders, de Jeugd van Tegenwoordig en Het Nationale Ballet geven acte de présence. Voor de opening zijn 1600 gasten uitgenodigd, onder wie prinses Laurentien en prins Constantijn.
Het Stedelijk was bijna 9 jaar dicht voor een grootscheepse vernieuwing. Architect Mels Crouwel nam het gebouw flink onder handen en ontwierp een moderne spierwitte vleugel, die in de volksmond 'de badkuip' is gaan heten. Ook de oudbouw uit 1895 onderging een grondige opknapbeurt.
Tijdens de verbouwing, die 5 jaar langer duurde en 37 miljoen euro meer kostte dan gepland, is de oppervlakte van het museum verdubbeld. Het Stedelijk mikt straks op 500.000 bezoekers per jaar. Het publiek is weer welkom om na lange tijd weer werken van kunstenaars als Mondriaan, Malevich en Kandinsky te bewonderen.

For the exhibition Maria Lassnig Ways of Being the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam has joined forces with Amsterdam’s college of woodworking, furniture and interior design (Hout en Meubileringscollege Amsterdam). For the interior of Maria Lassnig’s studio, students Storm de Jong, Niels Hoogewerf and Dirk Schoutens were inspired by Lassnig’s work—by the colors and forms she used and the themes she explored. They have designed and made the furniture in this room.
Type / Dynamics - Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam
The Dutch design studio LUST has created a new interactive installation for the exhibition 'Type/Dynamics' at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. 'Type/Dynamics' interacts with and comments on the work of graphic designer Jurriaan Schrofer (1926--1990) in an effort to revitalize recent design history. The installation visualizes information that continuously surrounds us and is always accessible. By searching for real-time locations currently in the news, like Ground Zero, Reichstag, or Tiananmen square, the installation can locate the panorama images from Google Streetview, abstract them into grids and fill the grids with new information. As a visitor to the space, you are literally 'transported' to that location and surrounded by all the news associated with that specific location. Instead of a photographic representation, the place is represented purely typographically with a host of new items currently being talked about at that location. Nothing in the gallery space stands still; all information continuously moves.

Teijin uses Twaron for new annex of the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam
Amsterdam's famous Stedelijk Museum of Modern Art originally opened its doors to the public in 1895 to exhibit the new, modern art that was creating a furor throughout Europe. A century later, the old Museum itself was in need of modernization. Architect Mels Crouwel had a vision for the new Stedelijk Museum, in particular the façade, which had to be a massive work of art. It turned out that Twaron was the key to make it happen. We took up the challenge and our proud of the result.
The new façade of the Stedelijk Museum is made out of 6000 km of Twaron para-aramid fibers and 1500 km of Tenax carbon fiber. Those fibers will lead you from Amsterdam to Tokyo. Or it can create the largest composite building in the world.
