Stephen's Gulch Conservation Area (Bowmanville, ON - September 2015)
The Stephen's Mill Trail winds its way over rolling terrain, through a dense, mixed forest at Stephen's Gulch Conservation Area. This park, north of Bowmanville, contains more than just a large wooded area. It contains a large portion of the Soper Creek watershed, as well. One can view both Soper Creek and several of its tributaries. The sights and sounds of these streams only add to the other sights and sounds of nature one can encounter there, such as the chirping of birds or the rushing sound of a chipmunk running through the woods.
This video was shot in mid-September, 2015.
Stephen's Gulch in Early Spring (Bowmanville, ON - April 2016)
As I saw during my walk at Stephen's Gulch Conservation Area, just north of Bowmanville, Spring 2016 was definitely progressing nicely. Greenery was beginning to carpet the forest floor in some areas along the Stephen's Mill Trail. The birds were singing and a few purple trilliums could be spotted. Other trilliums had begun to sprout. Both the sight and sound of rushing water was a fitting addition to the spring scenery.

Hike & Lunch in Stephen's Gulch
Fall has finally arrived! The girls and I explored Stephen's Gulch Conservation Area this week. It's only a 3 km long trail but there are lots of hills so it was quite a challenge for little legs. We had a nice easy trail side lunch at about the halfway point, and then turned around and followed our path out.
An Early Evening Along Bowmanville Creek (Enniskillen Conservation Area - April 2017)
This video of Enniskillen Conservation Area was shot during an evening in mid-April. During this time, I was able to shoot some views of Bowmanville Creek that would have been obstructed much more during summer or fall. The improved views of the creek were due to a lack of foliage. The timing of my visit also allowed me to get some shots during sunset. While there is no substitute for a shot of an unimpeded sunset, the setting sun shining through the trees is the next best thing.
This video was shot north of Bowmanville, Ontario on Good Friday, 2017.

Late Fall Scenes Along Bowmanville Creek (Enniskillen, ON - October 2015)
The scenes in this video were shot along a section of the Moorey's Mill Trail at Enniskillen Conservation Area, south of Enniskillen, Ontario (north of Bowmanville). There was a small amount of colour left in the leaves, during a late October afternoon walk. However, another main attraction at this conservation area is Bowmanville Creek, which served as a nice backdrop to the colourful leaves that were in the foreground. The late afternoon sun also provided ideal lighting for what was left of the foliage.
This video was shot during the final week of October, 2015.
Family Hike Through Long Sault Conservation Area
We took a family hike through Long Sault Conservation Area in the Oak Ridges Moraine today. The 2.9K trail took us a few hours and it was good fun. We found lots of birch bark, hoof fungus and fatwood. We saw squirrels and chipmunks and heard a turkey. We picked up garbage and climbed some downed trees. We also found a lost dinosaur and may have discovered the crater from the meteor that killed all his friends! We had three smiles and one sleeping bacpacgirl when we arrived back at the trail head. Life is good!

Early Summer Scenes Along Bowmanville Creek (Enniskillen, ON - June 2015)
This video was shot along Bowmanville Creek at Enniskillen Conservation Area, just south of the village of Enniskillen, ON. Much of the conservation area consists of a cedar forest, including much of the area the creek runs through. However, there are many types of vegetation to see, besides the numerous cedars.
Dragonflies were among the insects that were easy to spot, especially along the creek. There are also some ponds near the south end of the conservation area, one of which birds can often be spotted at. Hilly terrain is another dominant landscape feature, as this area is located along the south slope of the Oak Ridges Moraine.
This video was shot in late June, 2015.

A Chilly April Afternoon Along Wilmot Creek (Newcastle, ON - 2016)
The weather in Southern Ontario has been acting like a roller coaster over the winter of 2015-16, as well as the spring of 2016 so far. This spring, we have had days with warm temperatures that have had highs well above the freezing mark (sometimes as high as 10 C) that have been followed by days with high temperatures at the freezing mark or below. This made for some interesting scenery on my walk along Wilmot Creek.
Many icicles were still present along the fallen tree trunks and bare branches that are just above the creek. During my walk, the temperature was just below the freezing mark. At the same time, there were many spring-like appearances. The sun was out, plenty of birds could be heard and a few could be spotted easily. Fish were also active in the creek and if you look carefully during the video, one did make it into a shot, very briefly.
This video was shot at Thurne Parks Conservation Area, northwest of Newcastle, Ontario. This was shot during the second week of April, 2016.
