Stockel Square June 19, 2010 #2
The Saturday morning market in Stockel Square, Brussels, Belgium.
When we lived here from 1993 to 1998 we usually shopped here every Saturday when we were in town. The spectacular array of merchandise and foods is amazing. All the foods products are fresh, and the aroma's of roasting chickens, fresh baked breads, fresh strawberries, gaufres de liège (specialty Belgian waffles), fresh cheese, and fresh fish all wafting in the air is intoxicating. The accordion music playing in the background just adds to the whole sense of joy. All you want to do is eat everything! Of course we followed our noses to the gaufres stand and waited for our sweet treat.. They're made with a yeast dough embedded with little pearls of sugar. Mmmmmmm! Before we left the market we purchased a roasted chicken for our dinner that evening, and of course, askef for some of the 'sauce' (drippings from the chicken). I had wanted to buy some of the potatoes that had been cooking in the chicken drippings, but Pat didn't want them. Oh well.......... (see videos #1 & #3 too)

Brussels, Belgium - Houba-Brugmann Metro Station (2018)
Houba-Brugmann metro station is located under Houba De Strooper Avenue in the northwest of the City of Brussels, near the Brugmann University Hospital, named after the 19th century philanthropist Georges Brugmann and city official Louis Houba. The underground Brussels Metro station was opened on 5 July 1985 and is part of Line 6.
The Brussels Metro (French: Métro de Bruxelles, Dutch: Brusselse metro) is a rapid transit system serving a large part of the Brussels-Capital Region of Belgium. It consists of four conventional metro lines and three premetro lines. The metro-grade lines are M1, M2, M5, and M6[1] with some shared sections, covering a total of 39.9 kilometres (24.8 mi), with 59[citation needed] metro-only stations. The premetro network consists of three tram lines (T3, T4, and T7) that partly travel over underground sections that were intended to be eventually converted into metro lines. Underground stations in the premetro network use the same design as metro stations. A few short underground tramway sections exist, so there is a total of 52.0 kilometres (32.3 mi) of underground metro and tram network. There are a total of 69 metro and premetro stations as of 2011.
Most of the common section of the first two metro lines (between De Brouckère metro station and Schuman station) was inaugurated on 17 December 1969 as premetro tramways, converted in 1976 to the first two lines of the metro, then considered as one line with two branches, between De Brouckère and Tomberg and De Brouckère and Beaulieu. The metro is administered by STIB/MIVB (French: Société des Transports Intercommunaux de Bruxelles, Dutch: Maatschappij voor het Intercommunaal Vervoer te Brussel). In 2011, the metro was used for 125.8 million journeys, and it was used for 138.3 million journeys in 2012. The metro is an important means of transport, connecting with six railway stations of the National Railway Company of Belg, and many tram and bus stops operated by STIB/MIVB, and with Flemish De Lijn and Walloon TEC bus stops.
The City of Brussels is the largest municipality and historical centre of the Brussels-Capital Region, and the de jure capital of Belgium. Besides the strict centre, it also covers the immediate northern outskirts where it borders municipalities in Flanders. It is the administrative centre of the European Union, thus often dubbed, along with the region, the EU's capital city.
The City of Brussels is a municipality consisting of the central historic town and certain additional areas within the greater Brussels-Capital Region, namely Haren, Laeken and Neder-Over-Heembeek to the north, and Avenue Louise/Louizalaan and the Bois de la Cambre/Ter Kamerenbos park to the south.
On 1 January 2017, the City of Brussels had a total population of 176,545. The total area is 32.61 km2 (12.59 sq mi) which gives a population density of 5,475 inhabitants per square kilometre (14,180/sq mi). As of 2007, there were approximately 50,000 registered non-Belgians in the City of Brussels. In common with all the Brussels municipalities, it is legally bilingual (French–Dutch).

I was over in Brussels doing a regular stint as part of the ESCO project and happened to pop into the King of Spain in the corner of the square just as the music was starting. The lights are on all year of course but most of the time they are static. The atmosphere at the square was fantastic. It's a great place to visit.
