America's Most Haunted - French Quarter, New Orleans (Halloween 2012)
Take a haunted tour of New Orleans and learn about the story of ghosts.
Hi. My name is Sidney Smith. I am the owner of Haunted History Tour, here in New Orleans. Tonight, you are going to be taking the Haunted History Tour. With your tour guide, Renee Lazair.
Hello. My name is Renee Lazair. Today we will be taking a walking tour of the French quarter. The sights of actual documented hauntings. Folks, we are here at the number one most haunted building in the French quarter. This behind me right here is the La Lare' mansion. Also known as The Blight of New Orleans. 1830s a woman by the name of Delfine La Lare' inhierited 3 million dollars from her grandparents. She used that fortune to purchase this mansion, she moves in with her doctor husband. Dr. Luis Leonard La Lare'. So great was her taste that she had the entire first floor gutted out and converted into a ballroom. Complete with an Italian marble floor.
Over the years, during her parties, people noticed she like disappeared and show up in an entirely new dress. Well, her last night in New Orleans, it would be revealed why she was having to change her dress. Mid-way through a party, fire breaks out in the kitchen, which is now the parking garage. Fire department enters and they quickly put out the small grease fire. But they over hear the slaves talking about the atrocities going on inside. They exit the kitchen, enter the ballroom, empty all the party guests out onto this sidewalk, much like you are all standing right now. Of course the fire fighters they enter this building and make their way up to the third floor. There they make a very ghastly discovery. One room, several victims in various states of torture.
First, the which is a woman face down on the floor. Her arms and legs have been surgically removed from her one by one. Found a woman inside of a box. Had to take this box apart to get her out of it. That is when they realized that her bones and joints had been broken and dislocated so she could be folded up and put into that box. Two men are shackled against the wall. Both their faces horribly disfigured. Only thing keeping them alive, the maggots. Last person found is a woman. No cuts or marks or bruises, but visibly shaken. Fire fighters unlock her. Instead of her thanking them for setting her free from these people, she takes off running. Comes crashing out of that window, which you now see bricked up on the third floor. On her way down her neck hits the gally railing snapping her neck, flopping her dead in the street in front of all the party guests. I cannot wait for Halloween.
Marie Laveau: The New Orleans Voodoo Queen (Occult History Explained)
Marie Laveau was said to be a voodoo queen in New Orleans who cured the sick, sold gris-gris bags, summon spirits and at one supposedly changed the course of history for one wealthy young man and his father. But whether her voodoo talents were actually divine powers or merely theatrics to help boost her social standing, is up to you to decide.

NEW ORLEANS....VOODOO STILL EXIST!
NEW ORLEANS....VOODOO STILL EXIST!
NEW ORLEANS - is a Louisiana city on the Mississippi River, near the Gulf of Mexico. Nicknamed the Big Easy, it's known for its round-the-clock nightlife, vibrant live-music scene and spicy, singular cuisine reflecting its history as a melting pot of French, African and American cultures. Embodying its festive spirit is Mardi Gras, the late-winter carnival famed for raucous costumed parades and street parties.
No city in North America can compete with New Orleans when it comes to culture, food, historic architecture, joie de vivre and tourism options.
The Crescent City has suffered plagues, wars, imperial regime changes and devastating floods. Yet, it always wakes up with a smile on its face. This may be because its inhabitants step to an easy beat first laid down three centuries ago. Moving at this relaxed pace, visitors are delighted by the French Creole elegance of the Vieux Carre (French Quarter) or the opulence discovered in a streetcar ride through the Garden District and Uptown.
Anytime of year find live music, amazing Creole and Cajun cuisine, fresh seafood, farmers markets, shopping, nightlife and more. During Mardi Gras season, the city becomes the world’s center. Downtown transforms into an adult playground, while parades in residential areas provide children thrilling entertainment. Each spring, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival moves the focus to the charming Gentilly area and the Fair Grounds Race Course. But no matter the time of year, New Orleans' calendar overflows in celebration.
History
CAFE Du MONDE -The Original Cafe Du Monde Coffee Stand was established in 1862 in the New Orleans French Market. The Cafe is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It closes only on Christmas Day and on the day an occasional Hurricane passes too close to New Orleans.
. Its menu consists of dark roasted Coffee and Chicory, Beignets, White and Chocolate Milk, and fresh squeezed Orange Juice. The coffee is served Black or Au Lait. Au Lait means that it is mixed half and half with hot milk. Beignets are square French -style doughnuts, lavishly covered with powdered sugar. In 1988 Iced Coffee was introduced to the cafe. Soft drinks also made their debut that
BOURBON STREET - Noisy. Raucous. Nocturnal. For many New Orleans visitors, Bourbon Street embodies the life of a party town. The street is lit by neon lights, throbbing with music and decorated by beads and balconies. Named for a royal family in France and not the amber-colored alcohol, Bourbon Street has become a place for revelry of all sorts. With its windows and doors flung open to the wandering crowds, it should be no surprise that the famed sidewalk strolling libation known as the “go cup” was invented on Bourbon Street, according to Tulane University historian Richard Campanella. Many things change in New Orleans, but the color and excitement of Bourbon Street never falters.
ST LOUIS CATHEDRAL - The St. Louis Cathedral is one of New Orleans' most notable landmarks. Few cities in the world are so identified by a building as is New Orleans. The city is instantly recognized by our cathedral and its position overlooking Jackson Square.
This venerable building, its triple steeples towering above its historic neighbors, the Cabildo and the Presbytere - looks down benignly on the green of the Square and General Andrew Jackson on his bronze horse and on the block-long Pontalba Buildings with their lacy ironwork galleries. Truly, this is the heart of old New Orleans.
The Cathedral-Basilica of St. Louis King of France is the oldest Catholic cathedral in continual use in the United States.
As the caretakers of the Historic place of worship, we constantly battle the elements and the aging of the Cathedral with ongoing conservation and restoration. We invite you to become a Friend of the St. Louis Cathedral and help this national historic landmark remain the centerpiece in the great history of New Orleans!
VOODOO - Every year now, The Voodoo Experience, with its taglines “join the ritual,” and “worship the music,” pegs its calendar to Halloween. This has become a tradition in New Orleans, much like All Saints’ Day, when families head to the graveyards of the French Quarter and beyond to whitewash and sweep the tombs clean and decorate them with fresh flowers.
Exploring an Abandoned Hospital in New Orleans
A peek inside one of the many places that couldn't recover after the devastation of Louisiana's toughest hurricanes. Weird, creepy, and sometimes sad, exploring this place was an experience we won't forget.
Please excuse the shaky camera and grainy footage - this was taken before I knew anything about stabilisation or low-light settings for DSLRs.
Enjoy, and share any thoughts or observations you have down in the comments!
Oh, and Happy Halloween...
Note: Please do not try to find or visit this location. The inside is extremely dangerous: railings have fallen away from stairs, floors are near-collapse in certain parts, and there is broken glass and splintered wood everywhere. It is also regularly checked by security, and there may be people living inside who (from what we saw) won't be too friendly. We went, we filmed, so you don't have to.

Haunted New Orleans! Cities Of The Dead, New Orleans Cemeteries Pt 1
Haunted New Orleans explores the ghostly stories from New Orleans' infamous Cities Of The Dead.
RV TRIP TIP: New Orleans, LA
Like most RVers, we spend a lot of time exploring the wide open spaces of the great outdoors. But there are definitely times we like to visit large and medium size cities too. New Orleans is definitely one of those places and a great topic for our 50th YouTube video!
One problem with RVing in or around a city can be the availability of decent, reasonably priced camping. Usually the larger the city, the harder it is to find a campsite, especially for a large motorhome. Even some smaller cities have very limited facilities for RVers. All it takes is one good campground to do the trick, and that's exactly what we have in the New Orleans area: Bayou Segnette State Park.
Bayou Segnette SP is a hidden gem, only about 12 miles from the French Quarter and downtown New Orleans. It offers paved roads and sites, 50-amp electric hook-ups, a dump station and modern restroom facilities. Best of all, it's a beautiful camping environment and reasonably priced too.
A little Googling uncovered another great find for those wanting to learn more about New Orleans (and other cities too), while getting some exercise at the same time: Free Tours By Foot. They have a terrific business model where knowledgeable certified tour guides take people on free walking tours. All you pay is whatever gratuity you feel is appropriate. No strings, and great tours. And no, we are not paid to promote them! We just love great finds, and Free Tours By Foot is definitely one of them!
Our first tour was through the Garden District, starting in one of the many historic cemeteries located around the city. The district is also full of historic houses, as well as those of several Hollywood celebrities who make New Orleans their home.
Our second tour of the day was through the famous French Quarter, which is surely one of the most colorful places you'll ever visit. We strolled down Bourbon Street, listened to talented musicians and visited St. Louis cathedral.
We had time after each tour to enjoy some of New Orleans' classic Creole dishes: gumbo, po boys, shrimp éttouffée, fried okra, jambalaya, greens & cornbread.
If you love food, music, history or the unusual (or all of the above), New Orleans is for you. Creole cooking is delicious and the eclectic mix of food, music and partying is fun and energizing. Of course if you plan to come to town during Mardi Gras, better reserve your campsite way, way in advance. ;-)
Next time you're heading South, be sure to make time to visit this wonderful city.
The piano music is my own performance of Scott Joplin's Maple Leaf Rag from 1899.
