Catania | Sicily | Italy
A Sicilian street market is a cacophony of sights and sounds. From a colourful assortment of fruits, vegetables, fish and meats to vendors barking about bargains for anybody who will listen. The ambience is punctuated by colored tarpaulins suspended as tents to protect the wares from the elements.

DIY FOOD TOUR in PALERMO! What to Eat in Sicily, Italy // 157
I found as many authentic Sicilian foods as I could stuff in my mouth in one day in Palermo, and here they are! The DIY Food Tour in Sicily included: Arancini (my favorite), Cannoli, Sicilian Orange, Pane Di Panelle, and Cassata Siciliana.
The arancini is a fried rice ball filled with sauce, meat, cheese, or other fllings. They're named arancinis because once fried to a perfect golden, they look like Sicily's famous oranges.
The cannoli is a classic most people know, a stiff pastry filled with a sweetened ricotta mixture. However, most don't realize the deep cultural history that it is made of.
The Sicilian oranges had to be included because Sicily is said to have the best oranges in the world! It certainly did not disappoint.
Pane di Panelle is a sandwich made with chickpea-flour patties in the middle. Served as street food for about 2 euros.
Cassata Siciliana is an indulgent dessert. It consist of spongecake which is covered in a sweet almond cream, which is covered a thick sugar shell. It was so sweet I couldn't finish it all!
If you're wondering what to eat in Palermo, or what to eat in Sicily for that matter, then you'll be faced with a bombardment of choices! Almost everything I ate in Sicily was fantastic, and so much of it holds deep roots in culture!
If you're traveling on a budget, or you're like me and you're on one long-term low budget travel trip, then don't pay an absurd amount of money for a food tour in Palermo or Sicily. Instead, do a DIY food tour and pay only for the food!

Sicilian Street Food - Poco! Leeds ????
Here’s my food review of Poco! Sicilian Street Food on Kirkstall Road in Leeds, Yorkshire.
So why Poco? The people of Leeds love this place, but what makes them so popular? Well in Italian poco means little or a little bit. And that is exactly what they are, a small place offering delicious small bites to eat.
All pocos chefs come from Sicily, some from Palermo, some from Catania – because you just can’t make authentic Sicilian food if you haven’t been born and raised there. They only use authentic recipes in their cooking. The majority of the ingredients they use are delivered directly from Italy, to create all those authentic flavours.
What makes poco stand out from the competition? Well, it’s their food, of course. They make sure all their dishes taste as delicious and as authentic as they do back home in Sicily. Arancini, Cannoli, Pizza al taglio, Pollo Arrosto, Rosticceria Siciliana specials – all of these foods are now available in Leeds.
Who loves desserts? Well poco now also have their own Sicilian patisserie chef from Catania who used to run one of the most famous patisserie shops in Sicily. He's in charge of their homemade Italian desserts and celebratory cakes, as well as Sicilian rotisserie specials.
