Streets of the World
About Streets of the World
In 2009, Dutch photojournalist Jeroen Swolfs set out to visit and photograph street life in every country in the world. Streets of the World is the result of this impressive journey. It is a photography project that does not only impress by its scale, but also by the photographers’ intriguing outlook and his eye for people. With his 195 street photos taken in as many countries, Swolfs wants to show a positive image of the world we live in. One that is completely different from the harsh images the media show us, but just as real.It took Jeroen Swolfs seven years to collect his stories, now he wants to travel another seven years to share them. This new journey starts with the photo museum in Zaandam and will be continued in August by opening new exhibitions in other countries. As a photographer and as a human being, Jeroen believes sharing his experiences is more important than ever. The increasing tension in the world makes peace increasingly delicate. Streets of the World can play a role in keeping the peace without becoming political. Day to day life – more or less the same anywhere in the world – is the biggest hero of the project. An absolute eye-opener that can bring people closer together.

Zaandam - The city near Amsterdam where you can see unique buildings | Cities in the Netherlands #2
Zaandam is a small city 12 minutes away by train from Amsterdam, Netherlands. It's a place where you can see unique and creative buildings. Famous for its windmill town, 'Zaanse Schans' is part of Zaandam.
The landmarks here are Zaandam Station, Zaandam City Hall, Inntel Hotels. (You can see at the beginning of the video) I personally like the design of city hall.
Other things to do in Zaandam are Monet Atelier & Czar Peter House. Monet, an impressionist painter, stayed in Zaandam and left more than 30 paintings. In the atelier, you would see nice display of reproduction paintings Monet did while in Zaandam. There's also video that gives the history of Monet's time in Zaandam.
Peter the Great wanted Russia to be a powerful nation. He went to Zaandam and learned art of shipbuilding himself. He stayed in Zaandam only few days, but preservation of his house is quite good.

Welcome in Volendam:
Legend has it that the Volendam coat of arms is a compliment to the beauty of the Volendam girls ! No wonder that a famous singer sang the praise of this characteristic Dutch fishing village in the words: Anyone who wants to see the real beauty of Holland, goes to Volendam. As a result of its completely insulated location, this village preserved its character for six centuries, also because of the tough vitality of the fishermen. The characteristic small houses, which together with the canals and the drawbridges form the most picturesque spots, present the visitor an atmosphere of geniality and romance. Don’t forget to visit the Volendam museum with the ’Sigarenbandjeshuis’, where cigar rings are on display.
Places of interest:
Stolphoevekerk, Burg. Kolfschotenplein 1. Not open to visitors. The oldest church in Volendam is the wooden Protestant Stolphoevekerk. This National Monument was built in 1658 in the shape of a farmhouse. The lovely little church is still in use.
St. Vincentiuskerk, Kerkepad 1. Open to visitors in the holiday season, otherwise during the weekend. The St. Vincentius church was opened in 1860, after protests from Roman-Catholic worshippers who had been forced for centuries to walk to Edam for their Sunday service.
De Visafslag, Haven 41, (info@devisafslagvolendam.nl),. Open for visits by appointment. The wooden fish auction was built in 1934, but is no longer in use. Now a National Monument, it remains a landmark today, even between the many other wooden houses.
Volendams Museum, Zeestraat 41, (info@volendamsmuseum.nl). 10AM-5PM, only during the holiday season. Historical museum, focusing on the period 1850 -1950, showing traditional costumes and interiors, as well as paintings and other works of art made by artists who visited Volendam. A special mention should be made of the Sigarenbandjeshuisje: over 11 million cigar bands were used to create mosaics on the wall of this room. 3 EUR.
Palingsoundmuseum, Slobbeland 19 (info@smitbokkum.nl) Restaurant Paviljoen Smit-Bokkum houses a small exhibition dedicated to the history of popular music from Volendam, that has been dominating the Dutch charts for more than 40 years. 1.75 EUR.
Experience Volendam, Haven 154 A virtual reality experience of Volendam, explaining the history of the city, and the life of its inhabitants. You can also take a picture in traditional Volendam clothes.

Jordaan Amsterdam
Jordaan is a neighbourhood in the heart of Amsterdam’s famous Canal Ring. It used to be a working class neighbourhood and has since become one of the most upscale locations in The Netherlands. The name ‘Jordaan’ comes either from the French word for garden (jardin) or the Dutch word for the river Jordan. Rembrandt lived in the Jordaan for the last part of his life and he’s buried in the Westerkerk just beyond the neighbourhood’s official borders.
The most widely-known place in the Jordaan is the Anne Frank House where Anne Frank and her family lived in hiding for more than two years during the Nazi occupation of Holland. This building, where Anne wrote her famous diary, became a national monument in 1957. I read The Diary of a Young Girl at about the same age Anne was when she wrote it and it has stayed with them, as it has with many people. The House is very busy so make sure to buy tickets online in advance, up to two months ahead, to be sure you get inside.
Across from the Anne Frank House is a micro-neighbourhood within the Jordaan called the Little 9 Streets. It’s actually three streets that cross two canals which splits them into nine little streets. There are lots of adorable shops and restaurants. One unique shop is called No Boys Allowed. It’s a sneaker store which sells women’s sneakers in women’s sizes only. They also get exclusive releases from brands like Nike, Adidas, and Puma.
One of my favourite places I stumbled across in the Jordaan is a place called The Mouse Mansion Shop and Studio. The window displays are ridiculously charming! It’s a family business run by a mother and her four adult children. They write stories about a world of mouse characters they’ve created, build sets for the stories, and photograph them for books and videos. They sell the books, along with merchandise and toys, around the world. The sets are like dollhouses and extremely detailed - they can take years to build! The mice and their world is incredibly sweet and it’s a place I was glad to come across so randomly.
My other favourite memory from the Jordaan was getting a coffee and sitting on the terrace of a cafe called De Vergulde Gaper. It’s located across from the canal in an old drug store. It’s an ideal spot to sit and soak in the bicycles, the bridges, and all the sights that make Amsterdam so unique.
This neighbourhood was a true highlight from my trip to Amsterdam and I loved spending time there. Does it look like a place you’d like to visit? If you’ve already been, what were your highlights? I’d love to hear so please leave a comment down below and tell me!

Autumn and Fall Amsterdam- Rudens Amsterdamā
ENGLISH BELLOW
Autumn or Fall Amsterdam?
What do your preffer more, fall or Autumn, I love both of them. Colours can change the mood right?
We are based inAmsterdam, the side where the birds have been taken all parks and streets. The place is called Biljmeer Arena.
And the place where we shoot a video with my future wife Baiba at Nelson Mandela Park.
