2015 - OCTOBER - NEPAL LEG 1 - Kathmandu, Jiri to Lukla
In 2015 I set off to Nepal with a couple of friends to spend five weeks exploring the amazing country. The trip took me from Jiri to Lukla, then on to Everest Base Camp and finally to the summit of Island Peak.
These videos go to show what an amazing trip this was.
Nepal tour 2020, Kathmandu tour 2020, Island Peak climbing, Everest climbing, trekking peak in Nepal
Mountainous peoples of Sherpa World are adorned with the world’s famous summits. We follow the usual Everest approach through the Solu Khumbu. Namche Bazaar is veering off the trail to Everest base camp. We will enter a land of high altitude lakes and icy glaciers, Gokyo valley after crossing Chhukuma La at 6183m. Mount Imja Tse is trekking peak at a height of 6160 meter. It is popularly known as Island peak, the Island Peak Climbingname was given by Eric Shipton’s party in 1953, as the peak resembles an Island in seas of Ice when viewed from Dingboche village. Then it was renamed as Imja Tse in 1983. In 1953, a British team was the first to ascend the Island peak as preparation for climb Everest. Mr. Tenzing Norgay Sherpa was one of the team members to climb it.
Island peak is part of the south ridge of mount Lhotse and Lhotse Shar & mail forming a semicircle of cliffs which rises to the north of summit of Mount Nuptse, Lhotse Shar & Makalu lie to the east of the Island peak & mount Baruntse & Ama Dablam. We attempt the summit after one night at the high camp perched on the South West Ridge. Magnificent vistas of the Khumbu are visible. On the way of it while descending to base came, you can click the photographs of Chhukung valleys' landscape. Island Peak is very easy and common so many visitors are eager to reach there. We can also see vistas of Himalayas of Mount Everest 8848m, Mount Makalu 8463m. Mount Lhote 8516m (Over 8,000m) and many other beautiful mountains. Our journey ends at Lukla airstrip and then we fly back to Kathmandu.

The best tour in Nepal | Everest Helicopter Tour | A Complete Details
There are different Himalayan routes that you can take Helicopter tour like Everest Helicopter tour, Langtang Helicopter tour or Annapurna Helicopter tour to witness the vastness of the Himalayas of Nepal. Sights of the glistering snow peaks, beautiful green valleys, breathtaking view of barren land always stands out for the lifetime.
One of the best available options to get so close to the towering peaks of the Himalayas, almost to the touching distance, is definitely the Helicopter tour. This video is filmed over Everest Region and shows an up close look at Mount Everest.
To find out more about helicopter tours in Mt. Everest check out
Here’s the entire trip:
We took off from airport leaving Kathmandu behind the same route that Sir Edmond Hilary and Tenjin Norge took to summit Mount Everest for the first time. Passing many hills, seeing many other mountain vides, looking at Jiri (Swtizerland of Nepal). And soon we passed Lamjura (3500m) we were able to witness high Himalayas of Everest region.
Flying over the same valley of Lukla, we were (we were excited to see even bigger and higher mountains like Summit peak, Thamserkhu and more. ) making our eyes even bigger to stair high mountains like summit peak, thamserkhu and many more. And suddenly, we were looking at Namche with its beautiful surrounding. Mt. Kwange and many more were taking Namche in their lap.
We were landing at Syngbuche for fueling but the Mt. Everest was already gazing at us. After stopping few minutes, we flew over Khumde and Khumjung village towards Mt. Everest. Oh a minute later we were lucky to connect out eyesight with Mt. Choyu (8188m) with its gigantic face.
The geographical situatedness of Everest region is itself amazing. It is located in the region ranging from Kanchangungha to Langtang.
Cholaste 6440m. Look at that O MY GOODNESS ! Lobuche peak 6119m, now lobuche village 4900m along with lobuche glacier and the top.
Flying over Khumbu glacier, towards Everest Base Camp and looking at Pumori mountain range is of course unforgettable, nothing beats it.
After visiting almost to the camp two of Everest climb, we turned back towards Kalapather with the view of Khumbu Icefall. By the way, we had a choice either land at Everest Base Camp (5365m) or Kalapathar (5400m), we chose Kalapathar for better view.
Standing at Kalapathar with 51 % oxygen level was not easy so we landed at Lakapathar for only few minutes. Ok after having panoramic view of Everest and more, we turned back towards Syangbuche now.
One of the best available options to get so close to the towering peaks of the Himalayas, almost to the touching distance, is definitely the Helicopter tour. Its best for those who have limited time but its great for everyone else if you look for Luxurious and at the same time thrilling experience.
Most importantly, there are different Himalayan routes that you can take Helicopter tour like Everest Helicopter tour, Langtang Helicopter tour or Annapurna Helicopter tour to witness the vastness of the Himalayas of Nepal. Sights of the glistering snow peaks, beautiful green valleys, breathtaking view of barren land always stands out for the lifetime.
Anyways, our company Mountain Ram Adventures offers Helicopter tours to any of these areas as per the requirements of the clients. We offer individual tour, group tour, family tour etc.
Ok now we are landing at Syangbuche. We will be taking a bit of time here to enjoy our breakfast with the view of Mt. Everest along with surrounding Himalayan peaks.
Oh its time to go back, but we still have one more hour to enjoy helicopter ride. Look at the view of Dudhkoshi river and villages like Monju, Phakding and Lukla and beautiful farming tares. Green hills, villages still overwhelm you before arriving in Kathmandu.

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and travel hacking over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling. So we extended our 1 year trip to THREE years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

TREKKING IN NEPAL HIMALAYAS - EVEREST BASE CAMP TREKKING - DAY 1 | KATHMANDU TO NAMCHE BAZZAR
TREKKING IN NEPAL HIMALAYAS - This is the 4th day of my MOUNT EVEREST BASE CAMP TREKKING, but officially the first day as I reached to LUKLA late by 3 days. I reached to Lukla around 11 AM from Kathmandu by Sita Air which was about 30 minutes of flight. Luka Airport is considered one of the most dangerous airports in the world.
I started my journey by praying at the Big Buddha Statue which is at the top Hill , right above the Tenzing-Hillary airport of Lukla.
BREAKFAST IN LUKLA
People say food in Himalaya is expensive but not yet. In Lukla I ate two eggs, one thukpa Himalayan noodle and tea which cost me a total of 2.2 US$. The cost of one water bottle of 1 liter is 1$.
PASS CHECK FOR SAGARMATHA NATIONAL PARK
If you are foreigner you need a pass, since I have a Nepal passport, I don't need any pass or entry permit. There is a checkpoint or you can buy also it will cost you 20US$.
BEAUTIFUL SCENERIES
On the way, you will explore beautiful sceneries, green big moutains, waterfalls, Tibetan stupas, Buddhist maane, which are you supposed to turn from right to left. You will see Buddhiest holy mantra inscribed in all big stones with black and white.
PHAKDING
After about 3 hours of trekking, you will reach Phakding. The height of this place is around 2650 meters. All the tourist are supposed to stay here for acclimatization. But I can't afford this day because some of my friend who flew already by helicopter are waiting for me in Namche. So I must keep walking. But please you don't do that.
Manjo, Solukumbu
After one hour of trekking from Phakding , you will reach Manjo, again beautiful landscape in the foothill of Himalayas. One could also plan to stay here for acclimatization instead of Phakding.
Jorselle, Solukhumbu
The last village you will find before Namche Bazaar is Jorselle. There are around 20-25 houses. You can also make your night stay here, it is almost at the bank of the river. One could hear very well the strong current of river. I kept walking further thought it was already very late.
After Jorselle it's steep up till Namche which is at 3440 meters.
JORSELLE TO NAMCHE BAZZAR
It was already dark before I started climbing the Namche hill. This is one of the difficult for climbers since it's steep up. There is one famous and beautiful two suspension bridge one above other, you see that scene in EVEREST MOVIE which was released in 2016. It had got so dark by the time I reached there. But by the grace of god, I met few potters boys there and I hiked up till Namche with them. They don't have torch light but I still surprise how could they climb there in dark, in the jungle without light.
I almost died, my energy has all finished and it was a bit scary too since everything is new for me. I know nothing. All I wanted is somehow to climb up. Believe, Hardwork and consisitent, I reached to Namche at night to the place where I was planning to reach. I got dog bite too on the way.

Everest Base Camp Trek: The Logistics
Hiking gear
Since Jeff and I were traveling and spent a month in Bali before our Everest basecamp trek, we were wildly unprepared for the trek. We did have base layers and some long sleeves, but not much else! However, it is good to know that you can find everything you need in Katmandu, Lukla or even higher, up to Namche Bazaar at 3,400m - however, it does get a little more expensive as you go up, of course.
We strongly recommend to rent sleeping bags and down jackets - we rented both of those for about $2.50 per day per person at the Kala Pattar shop in Thamel, Katmandu. We also bought the rest of our hiking gear, including hiking backpacks, hiking boots, gloves, hats, neck warmers, fleece-doubled hiking pants and warm socks at the same shop - the more you buy, the more you can haggle!
Aside from finding a good backpack to carry everything on your back, it is an absolute must that you also have an easy access bag, like a bumbag, for all those things you’ll be needing easy access to like your phone, chapstick, tissues, money, permits, snacks, camera, etc. We highlight recommend Eastpak products, and neither of us travel anywhere without their bumbags around our necks.
Altitude
It is important to inform yourself and your group members about the effects of altitude and AMS (Acute Mountain Sickness). Early symptoms from 2,500m can include a strong headache, and you need to stop climbing. Start descending immediately if you experience dizziness, shortness of breath while resting, nausea or exhaustion in addition to the headache. AMS can lead to HAPE (high altitude pulmonary oedema) or HACE (high altitude cerebral oedema), which are both life threatening, but usually only occur at very high altitude. Make sure to be aware and to follow the recommendations to avoid AMS, and don’t climb more than 500 meters a day above 3,000 meters. If you are feeling unwell, you can inform the lodge owners, they are very helpful and most can organize a helicopter rescue if needed.
Diamox should not be taken by pregnant women or anyone with liver or kidney issues.
Everest Base Camp Trek: The Full Itinerary
Day 1 - Katmandu (4,593ft / 1,400m) - Lukla (9,334ft / 2,845m) to Phakding (8,563ft / 2,610m) to Monjo (9,301ft / 2,835m)
Trekking time: 3 hours from Lukla to Phakding + 3 hours from Phakding to Monjo. Total 6 hours
The trek to Everest base camp starts with a relatively nerve wracking flight, in the smallest plane we’ve ever taken - only 7 seats, and one flight attendant! You will be offered mints and cotton for your ears as the plane takes off from Katmandu and zigzags in between mountains to approach Tenzing–Hillary Airport in Lukla.
Tip: Make sure to seat on the plane’s left side for the best views of the Himalayas!
You will see Lukla’s famous short landing strip with its 11.7% gradient appear in front of you. While it can make you nervous, embrace the feeling of landing on the 500m strip, it will definitely be a good story to tell!
Once you get out of the plane, you will find yourself in the second smallest airport in the world. From there, grab your bag, and let’s head on the trek!
You should normally arrive early morning, before 8.30am, so you can be in Phakding for lunch.
Start walking on the path and enjoy the first 2 hours going downhill - how easy, you will think. Beware, as you will have to go up during the last 2 hours of the trek!
Stop in Phakding for lunch halfway, and continue another 3 hours of uphill hiking to Monjo, through beautiful sceneries with prayer wheels and suspended bridges where you can spend your first night.

Island Peak Climbing & Everest Base Camp Trek-Thirdrockadventures
#climbing #peakclimbing #peakclimbinginnepal #trekkinginhimalayas #travelnepal #visitnepal2020
Island Peak Climbing & Everest Base Camp Trek
Island Peak Climbing in Nepal offers the best peak climbing experience for novice climbers and mountain lovers. Lying in the Khumbu or Everest Region, the Island Peak or Imja Tse rises like a spectacular island of rock and ice surrounded by glaciers and 8000 and 7000 metre peaks. One of the easiest of Nepal’s trekking peaks, the ascent to Island Peak’s summit at 6189m involves a traverse through glacier and moderate snow and ice climbing.
Take a high altitude hike to Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar and stand beneath the frozen summit of Mount Everest. Cross a high mountain pass Kongma La and arrive at Island Peak Base Camp. Put on your gear and follow your guide to the summit of this beautiful peak.Walk past mountainside Sherpa villages, high mountain passes and glaciers to reach the Island Peak Base Camp, from where you make your summit bid. The ample acclimatization days will ensure that your body adapts well to the rarefied air before your summit bid.For most of you this will be a ‘first’ and thus your most memorable summit. We are sure there will be many more in the future, but the taste of your first victory lingers for a lifetime.
Best Time To Go
The best Island Peak Climbing seasons are Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November). During Spring and Autumn the weather remains clear and favorable for climbing. Climbing is possible during the winter months too, but conditions remain extreme and harsh during this period.

Trekking in Nepal Himalaya - Jiri to Everest Base Camp trek in Nepal
Everest base camp trekking in Nepal from Jiri trail was taken by Tenzing and Hilary to climb Mount Everest in 1953, and We did Everest base camp Trek and Kalapather trek taking the same trail in December 2014 with a group of friends/clients from Canada, Australia, UK and Ireland. We were planning to do all three passes trek, Everest base camp, Kalapather, Gokyo trek but it was snowing for 2 days so the passes got closed then we turn to do only Everest base camp and Kalapatther from the normal route.
Trekking in the Everest region starts either from the town of Jiri, accessible from Kathmandu by bus or private jeep, or from Lukla, a short flight from Kathmandu.
If you have a limited amount of time, then it is best to fly into Lukla from Kathmandu (although in order to avoid altitude sickness you will still need a minimum of 2 weeks to trek to Everest Base Camp and Kalapathar). But if you have the time it is well worth spending an extra week by walking in, which will give you ample time to improve your fitness and acclimatize for the high mountain trails. You will also enjoy the opportunity of getting off the beaten track and following in the footsteps of the early mountaineers on the old expedition route.
