Discovering America on 2 Wheels - Leg 2 Part 3 - Clovis NM to SW of Anton Chico NM
DA2W - This video picks up in Clovis NM and begins with my Best Ride of the Trip - a 60 mile rip across the Llano Estacado - Stockaded Plains - into Fort Sumner NM followed by a 3 day stay at Sumner Lake State Park - an Oasis in the Desert. I visited Santa Rosa State Park and marveled at the abundance of Waterfowl and Bald Eagles viewed along the Shoreline Trail. I then took an ill-advised route to Villanueva State Park and .... Well you'll have to watch the video and see what happened!

ATS: Coast to Coast: Eastward Track - Fort Sumner (NM.US) to Abilene (TX.US)
My secondary profile EL CEJ is in a fairly new basic truck and trailer. The driver is tracking east from San Diego.
In this trip, he is ready to load hay bales at the S-Crop farm in Fort Sumner. Once that is done, he heads east on route 60 to Clovis and then the Texas border.
This is the eastern end of the SCS maps, so from here we get into the Coast to Coast map. This map has variable quality. In some states it is only a skeleton interstate map with just a few towns and cities. In other parts, we get a fair bit more detail. Much of the midwest has been worked on quite a bit, and this includes about two thirds of Texas from the north down.
We have not got far into Texas when we leave route 60, and go south-east on route 84 into the town of Muleshoe. That town is soon behind us as we head towards the city of Lubbock. Here the 84 joins interstate 27 going south to the other side of Lubbock, and then diverges from the interstate to soon resume a south east direction.
We continue along the 84, passing Post (an intersection, not even a gas station). Snyder is also just an intersection. eventually we reach interstate 20. This splits from Interstate 10 in the south west of Texas (somewhere east of Van Horn). It goes east as well - to our destination town of Abilene, then Fort Worth - Dallas, then Shreveport, Monroe, Vicksburg, Jackson, Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Atlanta, Augusta, Columbia, until it finally ends at Interstate 95 just to the west of Florence, South Carolina.
As we look to go on Interstate 20, the turn is blocked by an accident. This forces us to travel west to Big Springs, and turn around at an overpass. We do get to see a great setting sun. Fortunately the delay does not mean a late delivery.

Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site
Hubbell Trading Post is a meeting ground of two cultures, the Navajo and settlers who came to the area to settle in what is now northeastern Arizona in the late 19th century. These settlers came from Mexico from the south and eastern United States. In 1878, John Lorenzo Hubbell purchased this trading post, ten years after Navajos were allowed to return to their homeland from their U.S.-imposed exile in Bosque Redondo, Fort Sumner, New Mexico. This ended what is known in Navajo history as the Long Walk of the Navajo. The park is located in Ganado, Arizona. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1960.
Pie Town, NM (tr.u)
There are two pie eateries in Pie Town, NM. 1. Pie Town Cafe & 2. Pie-O-Neer Cafe
Where is Pie Town, you ask? Well, take I-25 south from Albuquerque towards Las Cruces. Hang west on US-60.)
This video (and the next one) is somewhat of an inside joke between a friend and me. I arrived RIGHT before closing, driving from Clinton, OK, so that's the reason I state I'll eat quickly.

How to Say or Pronounce USA Cities — Fort Sumner, New Mexico
This video shows you how to say or pronounce Fort Sumner, New Mexico.
A computer said Fort Sumner, New Mexico. How would you say Fort Sumner, New Mexico?
Pie Town, NM (tr.u)
Here's the inside joke to these two videos: the pie eateries have limited hours and days, and when my friend took a road trip both of them happened to be closed. One of the stated destinations on his trip was Pie Town. So, in order to give him a better understanding of what he missed--and perhaps even to rub it in--I filmed myself eating a burger and some pie. This video shows the consumption of Pie Town Cafe's New Mexico (Hot) Apple Pie, and the last video shows consumption of a burger. Both were delicious.

Have a group coming to Beacon Lodge & RV Park? This is our B2 trailer.
Entering Pie Town, NM (tr.u)
The video starts three miles away from the Pie Town Cafe (formerly Daily Pie Cafe). It's 3:45PM and I THINK I have until 4:30PM, when actually they close at 4PM. Again, a very close shave, timewise.
I pass the Continental Divide sign at 1:06, the Pie Town sign at 2:07, the STOP sign for the Pie-O-Neer Cafe at 3:00. At the end of the video, I turn into the parking lot of the Pie Town Cafe.

Travel Guide New Mexico tm City of Rocks State Park
Rock formations like those at the City of Rocks State Park exist in only six other places in the world. Imaginative visitors may see the rock formations as a small city with houses, chimneys, courtyards and streets. Visitors can choose from 62 campsites scattered among the rocks, from which they can hike, bird watch, picnic, bike, take in the interpretive exhibits at the visitor center, explore the parks botanical garden or star gaze.City of Rocks State Park lies in the Mimbres Valley of the Chihuahuan desert. The park and surrounding grassland support yucca, agave, cacti and ocotillo, while growing among the rocks are Emory and gray oak. Mule deer, roadrunners, javelinas, cactus wrens, western diamondback rattlesnakes, ground squirrels, coyotes and jackrabbits all make their home here. Until 1200 A.D., Mimbres Indians roamed this area, leaving arrowheads and pottery shards as evidence of their culture. The park also lies within the traditional homelands of the Chiricahua and Warm Springs Apache. Spanish explorers and settlers arrived in 1500 and mule trains loaded with copper from the nearby Santa Rita mine passed nearby on their way to Chihuahua from 1804 to 1834. After the Mexican War of 1846-48, the Mormon Battalion blazed a trail south of the park to link newly acquired New Mexico and Arizona with the eastern United States.
