St Moritz, Switzerland
Around The World goes to St. Moritz, Switzerland.
Swiss International Air Lines have daily, non-stop flights from North American cities directly to Zurich. Straight from the airport one can, with their Swiss Travel Pass, take a train to southeastern Switzerland and the awe-inspiring Engadin lake district. The stunning mountain landscapes, deep gorges and bucolic valleys make the journey eye-popping.
A member of Swiss Deluxe Hotels
One could say that the Kulm Hotel was the birthplace of Swiss Alpine Hospitality. Known as a popular summer resort in the 18 century, Johannes Badrutt made a bet with some of his English guests that they would love St. Moritz's sunny winter weather. To prove it he offered no cost accommodations if they weren’t delighted. They came the next winter, were astonished by wonderful weather and Badrutt won the bet.
The first electric lights in Switzerland lit up at the Kulm in 1878.
At the Sunny Bar at the Kulm, the oldest sports bar in the Alps…local sports history is on all the walls. St. Moritz was the birthplace of competitive winter sports starting with Switzerland’s first curling field followed by the Cresta Run in 1884. In fact the first winter olympics was held in the Engadin in 1928.
And if you go skiing in St. Moritz, you can’t lose.
Corviglia mountain has first class ski runs usually uncrowded and bathed in sunshine. There are neighboring ski mountains and together they provide 350 kms of pistes.
There are also 15 mountain restaurants. The El Paradisio Hutte has gotten international accolades for its creamy dessert.
“La Marmite” at 2,486 meters above sea level, serves fine cuisine that reaches even greater heights. Reto Mathis’s exclusive menus focuses on exceptional fresh ingredients such as his truffle pizza which features different types of fresh truffles, depending on the time of the year.
Reto also presided as president of St. Moritz Gourmet Festival which in 2016 brought nine master Japanese chefs to the village. The grand opening featured each chef and a signature dish and through the week various hotel hosted a gourmet safari where diners could experience special menus created by these Asian artists.
St. Moritz is more than just a playground for the international jet set. It is a host of year round sports from ski races to sailing The village offers the finest in hotels from the Kulm to the Kronenhof — creative restaurants, and indulgent, unique shopping.
St. Moritz is the Top of The World.

Formerly nicknamed by Jean Cocteau as the twenty-first district of Paris, Megève has become a must visit destination for anyone wishing to enjoy a magical setting during summer or winter.
The village, with its incredible charm, instantly gives us the desire to stroll through its narrow streets. Drinking tea accompanied by a few macaroons on a terrace, shopping or enjoying a short carriage ride are among the favourite activities of tourists who have chosen this resort, above all, for its family setting and authentic side. In this Haute-Savoyard village, wood is of course the choice material. Even more so at the Hotel du Fer à Cheval; it’s foyer sets the tone… A warm 5 star establishment where we will stay for this little getaway. Its proximity to Mont-Blanc and the panorama offered from the Mont d'Arbois make it a popular destination for nature lovers and ski enthusiasts. Many people choose to walk in their ski boots from their luxurious chalet. Chalets that are bought and sold for millions! We will discover one, for sale, not far from the altiport of Côte 2000, with Jean-Baptiste Pierlot, director of the Coldwell Banker Alps Realty agency in Megève.
And of course we will enjoy this sunny day and take you on a short trip in the sky! We will sit alongside our driver Bruno for an overview of Megève and the Vallée Blanche. Then back on firm land, where ladies can marvel at the sight of these sculptural rings, diamond ornaments and other precious stones that jeweller Philippe Guilhem offers in his sublime shop located in the heart of the village.Sublime like these works by Novarino, Cintract, Boucheix or Duhamel. After having welcomed us in his Courchevel Gallery, Stephen Lafeuille will this time open the doors of his Megevan lair. But let's start by unpacking our suitcases at the Hotel Le Fer à Cheval, ideally located at the entrance of the village.Built in 1938 by the blacksmith of the village, the building was transformed into a hotel in the 60s, under the impetus of Fernande and Charles Sibuet. Embellished over generations, it is today one of the cosiest 5-star establishments in the village.
A truly charming village. Under the bright sun, a stroll is a must, but before that, take advantage of being just a few steps away from the Altiport, to take a short plane ride. An activity that continues to be popular with tourists eager to discover, from the sky, the village of Megève, but also the Vallée Blanche, the Vallée de Chamonix or the Aiguille du Midi and the Mont Blanc Massif. A beautiful trip that lasts a good thirty minutes, alongside our pilot Bruno who invited us to take a place aboard his Musketeer D140. Once in the sky, the view is simply breathtaking.
Count on 44 euros per person for an overview of the Megève Valley, 80 euros for the Chamonix Valley, 120 euros for the Vallée Blanche and 160 euros for the grand tour, including the Mont Blanc Massif. Flight time, 10 to 40 minutes! The less courageous can stay behind on the land, and wait for the return of their comrades, seated at the terrace of the Coucou Café. How about seeing the charming little village of Megeve more closely? It all began with Baroness Noémie de Rothschild, after the first world war. Passionate about mountains, she wanted to create a ski station capable of competing with St. Moritz, in Switzerland, where all the European aristocracy of the time liked to meet. The small village of Megève then metamorphosized throughout the seasons, while managing to preserve its soul, heritage, and authenticity. The King of the Belgians, Albert the first, stayed here. All the French aristocracy soon followed suit. Today, Megève counts no less than 32 hotels including 1 palace and eight 5 star establishments, for a total of nearly 40,000 beds. Of the 80 restaurants scattered in the 4 corners of the village, 3 are Michelin starred.

Bar Moritz at SP34 Hotel, Garlic Festival & Andrea Godin’s Hot Summer Music Video
Wine – Dine –Repeat’ is the dictum of Bar Moritz; a bar that is hugely inspired by vibrant Spanish cities like Madrid, Barcelona and San Sebastian. Here tapas is no longer merely a boring and standardized dish; rather, Bar Moritz’ focus is on good commodities and a simple preparation.
The portions go from small to medium-large dishes and the idea is that the dishes are for sharing. The drinks at Bar Moritz reflect the food – which means small beers and wine glasses so that the customer has the opportunity of trying the many different options.
The Toronto Garlic Festival is the annual celebration of Ontario’s garlic harvest. Not only does the festival promote awareness of Ontario garlic by featuring farmers, gardeners, chefs, home cooks, scientists and health experts from the GTA and southern Ontario.
Andrea Godin is no stranger when it comes to the music industry. Born and raised in St. George, Ontario, this beautiful Pop/Dance/R&B recording artist knew at a young age she wanted to be a singer. After her first performance at 11 years old, Andrea was ready to get her career started. She is working on her latest Music Video called “Pages”. She also has a very successful track single called “Hot Summer”.
Zurich, Switzerland part 2: Bahnhofstrasse, trams, museums, Zug
Continuing our in-depth look at Zürich, Switzerland focusing on the modern side of the city showing you the great boulevard, the Bahnhofstrasse lined with thriving, modern retail frontage from end to end, and some of Zürich's other shopping lanes.
Please subscribe:
We will go out on a lake boat ride, take you on an excursion to a nearby town, visit the main museums, and generally show you around.
Bahnhofstrasse is the pride of modern Zurich, and counts as the one and only Boulevard of the city. It is famous for being one of the most exclusive and expensive shopping streets in the world. Here you can get anything from diamond rings to chocolate to fur coats. About 140 stores are located along it. A study In 2011 named the Bahnhofstrasse the most expensive commercial rent for retail property in Europe. We'll take you up and down the full length of Bahnhofstrasse on foot and in the tram.
By the way the reason that we can present such a long and comprehensive program about Zürich is that it was filmed during 10 visits to Zürich in recent years.
Zürich’s Hauptbahnhof is the busiest train station in the world as measured by total number of daily trains, but the Hauptbahnhof is more than just a train station – it's like a small town in itself. There are many restaurants and bars and cafes and the lower level has got a vast shopping mall, and it is really popular because these stores are open at night and on Sundays when many of these stores in the city are closed. You'll find a whole variety of shops available here, not just travel items, luggage stores, but clothing stores and sundries, there is the sandwich shops, there is the stationary places, all kinds of ways to spend your money. If you're here towards the end of September you might get lucky and run into the Oktoberfest celebration. These are Swiss, they also like their beer and their lederhosen and their sausages, very similar to Munich in southern Germany in Bavaria. It's Oktoberfest time with some great Swiss beer, there's some music in the air, and a lot of fun. Everybody is very friendly here and the whole station turns into one big party scene.
There are nearly 300 hotels in Zürich so you have a wide range of choice from the cheapest hostel up to a five-star deluxe hotel like the hotels Savoy Bauer en Ville. It's right on Paradeplatz and Bahnhofstrasse – a very refined and expensive place to stay, with prices generally above €500. Perhaps four-star luxury is more suitable for you and definitely less expensive. We enjoyed the St. Gotthard Hotel. It's right on the Bahnhofstrasse just one block from the train station, making access about the best in town.
For visitors who have any interest whatsoever in art, it's worth walking a few blocks to the south edge of the old town to visit Zürich's art museum, the Kunsthaus Zürich.
Behind the train station the country's largest museum occupies a huge neo-Gothic castle built a century ago and houses a grand display of Swiss history illustrating the full length of human culture from the Stone Age up through the 1940s.

Mount Titlis, Switzerland
We are taking you up to Mount Titlis, one of the most scenic destinations in Switzerland, high in the Swiss Alps.
Please subscribe:
Switzerland playlist
The most exciting excursion out of Lucerne is to Mount Titlis where you can get a chance to frolic in the snow at the top of a mountain, guaranteed because it's a glacier, so there is snow all year round, throughout the summer throughout the winter and it just takes 2 hours to get from Lucerne up to the mountaintop. It is really a thrill to go up in the summer time and play because you wouldn't expect to run into snow on a warm summer day, but there it is, and it's very easy to get there. You take the scenic train from Lucerne on a one hour journey to Engelberg enjoying beautiful views of the mountains, farms and villages along the way.
Mount Titlis provides a spectacular view right into the heart of the Alps with the lofty peaks of the Jungfrau, Munch and Eiger visible in the distant Bernese Overland on a clear day, the Titlis viewing platform at 10,000 feet elevation has an elaborate multistoried restaurant, café and gift shop complex, along with ice cream snack bar and coffee bar out on the terrace in typical Swiss fashion. They have civilized this mountain and provided creature comforts while bringing you right into this wild natural environment.
Another activity while you're at the top of Mount Titlis is the glacier tunnel. It's an ice tunnel that they've carved right into the foundation of the glacier itself and there is colorful lighting inside. They have some ice sculptures inside and secure footing on a good rubber mat walkway and it's a lot of fun. You walk in the tunnel which goes around in a small loop circle. It just takes a few minutes but be sure to look for the ice grotto while you're up top.
One of the most exciting attractions is called the Cliff Walk. It's a pedestrian suspension bridge that gives you dramatic views looking all around, and even straight down 500 meters beneath your feet. It's claimed to be the highest suspension bridge in Europe and there is no extra charge for walking on it so by all means take advantage. It opened up at the end of 2012. It took them 5 months to build it and it has become a really popular attraction, sometimes called the world's scariest bridge.
For some more fun on the trip down you can get off the cable car at the next-to-last stop and rent a scooter to ride down the final mile. It is just a simple stand up foot scooter, you hold onto those handlebars with both hands and it's a wonderful ride that goes around zigzagging down on the road, which is at times a gravel road, a dirt road, but mostly it's a paved road. So it's really quite safe, quite fun. You’ve got good brakes with the scooter so you can slow down, you can stop, take a picture. Don't try and take any pictures while you're moving because you’ve got to keep both hands on the handlebars and wear that little protective helmet that comes with the rental. At the bottom you just leave the scooter in the pavilion and they will pick it up for you.
All aboard a stunning train ride through the Swiss Alps
There's something about this train ride in Switzerland that makes you want to watch it over and over again.

Festival Da Jazz 2016 live interview with Brandy Butler
Festival Da Jazz: Interview with Brandy Butler live @ Sunny Bar
23 July 2016
The power woman Brandy Butler says: “I love retro soul.” As a matter of fact the Afro-American artist who lives in Switzerland is one of the outstanding soul singers of our time.
Brandy Butler was originally born and raised in Reading, Pennslyvania. Daughter to a black father and white mother she was born into a world full of cultural collisions and tastes as wide as the musical spectrum can go. Her mother was an avid musical fan and invested many years teaching Brandy the essential Rodgers and Hammerstein catalog (among others). Her father was a soul and jazz music fan to the extreme. He filled the house with the sounds of Philadelphia, Miles Davis and Stevie Wonder. By the time Brandy was in the 4th grade she had already developed a strong love of music and began to play the flute. This first instrument would guide her educational taste for the rest of her academic career. She finished her high school career with not only honors, but ranked as the number one flute player in her county.
In 1997 she moved to Philadelphia to pursue her love of Jazz and Music at the University of the Arts. It was here in Philadelphia that she found her home: a city dedicated to it’s love of music, and of course sports teams (Go Eagles!). Philadelphia became her permanent residence. She finished with a Bachelor’s in Jazz Studies and spent the years following her graduation teaching Elementary Music in the Philadelphia School District.
In her free time, she was devoted to the cult favorite Philadelphian local band, Saigon Slimm.
In 2003, on a whim, she decided to take a break from music and life in Philadelphia. She found a job in Switzerland as an au-pair for a family outside of Zürich in a small village called Bonstetton. Within months of her move to Switzerland, she began to work for big names such as The Dankners, Seven. Paulo Mendoza, Rolf Stalhofen and many more as a background singer. After landing a spot in 2004 on Florin Ast’s “Astrein” Tour, she decided to continue her music pursuits in Switzerland.
Fast forward ten years…..
Brandy Butler is one of the most highly respected musicians and vocalists on the Swiss Scene. She has made appearances with almost every major Swiss Artist including Sophie Hunger, Sina, Stress, Steff La Cheffe, Phenomden, etc…. She completed her Master’s degree in Musik Pedägogik in 2011 and since 2012 has been successfully running one of the largest KindermusikTM programs in the world. This past winter she appeared on The Voice of Switzerland capturing the hearts and minds of many as she appeared in what was “the most discussed moment of the entire series” in her Battle to Nicole Bernegger. She can be seen with bands such as Chamber Soul, Dee Day Dub and Brandy Butler & The Fonxionaires. This past June she brought out her first solo single as Brandy Butler with Irascible.
Brandy currently resides in Zürich with her daughter, Ruby

2014 Engadin Post-Race Report (by Fast Big Dog)
By Fast Big Dog
For the 2014 Engadin, a diverse array of U.S. skiers made the trip to sunny Switzerland to compete in one of the premier Worldloppets, the Engadin Ski Marathon. The race featured a number of highlights, including Holly Brooks recovering from a nasty fall to place fourth, Matt Gelso also getting tangled up in the pack to ski his way back up into the lead group for a very solid 15th place and in the most colorful racer of the day, long-time U.S. Skiing supporter and Seattle Seahawks uber-fan Tony Weiderkehr ski the race in a full football uniform, including pads, as a celebration of the Seahawks Super Bowl victory.
WIthout a doubt though, some of the best work was done after the race in the official Engadin Beer Garden, where a nice mix of up and coming stars and aging master blasters, Matti Briggs, Eric Packer, Peter Kling, Matt Gelso, Holly Brooks, Clark Sullivan, Walter McCormack, Quique Nagle and of course the FBD, showed the world how to post-game USA style.
In short, this is a must-do event for anyone who likes skiing, sun, stunning alpine views, beer, bratwurst and just generally being awesome. Should any doubts still remain, here is a slideshow highlighting some of the beauty of this incredible event:
And the race results:
1st Day in St. Anton - Getting to know the town & beers with a Head Chef
I just arrived in St. Anton am Arlberg, checked into the 5-star hotel where I'll be working at, and had lunch. Then I met the Head Chef, Spence, who I walked around town and had beers with.
We inquired at the Galzigbahn (a popular ski lift) about how much season ski passes cost for season workers (860 euro), as well as how much and when you get your staff refund after working 3 months (just under 50%).
We then talked to local bartenders at the famous 'Basecamp bar', who introduced us to the local area and some unique drinks.
Finally, we met some 'Krampus', a half-man, half-goat demon whose legend has been around since pagan times.
More on Krampus' in an upcoming video displaying the Krampus Parade... stay tuned!

Meglio Stasera (From 1963 Pink Panther Movie) - Fran Jeffries
Meglio Stasera known in English as It Had Better Be Tonight is a 1963 song with music by Henry Mancini, Italian lyrics by Franco Migliacci and English lyrics by Johnny Mercer. It was composed for the 1963 film The Pink Panther where it was performed by Fran Jeffries.
