Japan's Night Train : Sunrise Izumo Express
I spent the night on one of Japan's last over night trains from Tokyo to Izumo, near the Sea of Japan. This train goes once daily from Tokyo station and since passengers have started to stop using the overnight trains, there isnt many left in Japan. This one is special however, as it travels directly to Izumo, which is said to be the birth place of Japan as we know it.
There are many things to do and visit in Izumo and surrounding areas like Matsue. The reason I went to Izumo was to visit Izumo Taisha as it is one of the oldest and most important shrines in all of Japan!

Japan Summer Trip 2016 - Seto Inland Sea Cruise Ogijima
In previous movie we reached Takamatsu on Shikoku by ferry. Takamatsu is a convenient hub connecting a city with many small islands on Seto Inland Sea. We chose Ogijima as our next destination. According to a folk tradition, Ogijima and neighboring Megijima are inhabited by demones or ogres (oni) along with small populations of humans. On Ogijima we took a walk through subtropical forest to reach a charming lighthouse on the wild beach.

Great Seto Bridge(Seto Ohashi) Sky Tour (瀬戸大橋スカイツアー)
The Great Seto Bridge is a series of double deck bridges connecting Okayama and Kagawa prefectures in Japan across a series of five small islands in the Seto Inland Sea.
I had a chance to climb up and walk Seto Ohashi's bridge pier.
It was a very beautiful landscape from top of the bridge pier tower.
We enjoyed an hour and a half tour.

Japan's ONLY Night Train! | Nobi-Nobi Seat on the Sunrise Seto
In this Vlog,
We fly Vanilla Air from Sapporo to Tokyo, then take Japan's last remaining regular night/sleeper/overnight train, whatever you want to call it, towards Osaka where we meet up with the rest of the lads coming over from Australia. Initally at the Tokyo JR East Ticket office, they told me that it was booked out, however a day later at the Aomori Ticket Office I was able to get a reservation but for a small fee.
The combined Sunrise Izumo/Seto travels nightly from Takamatsu in Shikoku and Izumo in Shimane both to and from Tokyo Station. Along the way the train stops at places that might be useful for tourists, such as Himeji and Okayama; less than an hours Shinkansen ride away from Osaka, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Kobe etc.
Whilst the carpet seats (Nobi-Nobi Zaseki) are covered by the JR Pass, there are also cabins in the other carriages of the train which vary from $100 AUD to $250 AUD but are not covered by your JR Pass. The individually partitioned carpet seats are more than enough room for your person and any luggages but are not the most comfortable with only a single sheet provided so feel free to bring a pillow, sleeping bag, food, drinks etc.

JR East | Train cancellation announcement due to typhoon | Sunrise Seto/Izumo
SBS2827U Records the announcement informing passengers of the cancellation of the Sleeper Express Sunrise Seto and Sunrise Izumo at Tokyo Station.
The announcement was made as a result of mass cancellation of train services in the western part of Japan after the Typhoon Krosa (Typhoon No.10) hit parts of West Japan, with the Sleeper Express Sunrise Seto and Sunrise Izumo being one of the services affected by cancellations.
The impact of the typhoon has also resulted in the unfortunate death 1 person and 49 injured (accurate as at 3am, 21 August 2019).
The announcements are made in 4 languages, starting with Japanese, English, Chinese (Mandarin) and Korean

Express from Tokyo Station to Izumo.
Passengers on Japan's night trains have declined so there are few night trains left in Japan. This is the only daily one from Tokyo.
Notes:
★ Shower tickets – buy them as soon as you board. Limited number available. There's a vending machine. 320 yen for 6 minutes.
*Bring your own towel.
★ No food on board. Buy your own breakfast, snacks, beer
BEFORE you board. There is a softdrink vending machine but the
prices are high.
★ JR Rail Pass is okay for this sleeper train but only for the Nobinobi Zaseki (のびのび座席) flat area. There are upgrade charges for compartments / cabins. Make a reservation at a JR ticket
office. It's best to do this as early as possible esp on the weekends and holiday.
