Glass Bottom Shipwreck Boat Tour - Pictured Rocks - Munising, Michigan
Hop on board the glass bottom boat ride and sail with us over two unique shipwrecks on Lake Superior. On this unique shipwreck boat ride, we explore the Bermuda wreck - the only surviving in tact wooden shipwreck of its kind. We also learn about the depth of the lake, and how the hidden reefs caused wrecks. In addition to the shipwrecks we see Grand Island, a wooden lighthouse, and a part of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The ship captain even steers us right up close to a rock cave.

Also just two miles east from the lodge is the Au Train River with kayak and canoe rentals—where you can enjoy a leisurely 3 hour ride for under $30 per person. Less than half a mile away from the lodge, you will find a public boat launch for your ultimate fishing experience as well as the historic Brownstone Inn with great food, a large craft beer selection, and a comfortable atmosphere.
We recently acquired this property−which was built in the 1990s and was once locally known as the Pinewood Lodge Bed & Breakfast; in Spring 2017, we renovated the lodge to convert it into a large capacity vacation rental. We added the second full kitchen, all new carpeting, bedding, linens and custom log furniture. The transformation is now complete and ready for you to enjoy! Even though the Pinewood Lodge is new to VRBO, you can view our other vacation rentals located 2 miles east on the Au train River (search Reel Inn Cabin, capacity of 6-8 and Reel Inn Lodge, capacity of 14-20) for customer reviews. If needed, your group could plan ahead and combine all three properties for a total group capacity of 60.

The Best UP Michigan Road Trip (Ann Arbor To Lake Superior)
Most everyone can agree summer is one of the best seasons in Michigan. My family and I took full advantage of the great weather on our road trip from Ann Arbor, MI to Gulliver, MI in the Upper Peninsula. After passing the Mackinaw Bridge, we alway stop at Lehto’s to grab a pastie (nothing screams your up north like a pastie). We stationed in Gulliver, MI and then headed to Lake McDonald day one for some great, great fishing. We brought our family boat along the 7 hour drive, safe and sound! I caught roughly 7 fish (a few got off the hock) in just an hours time trolling the waters of Lake McDonald. We caught pike and bass. Then we headed downtown Manistique for our land adventure. The annual summer festival was happening, so lots of booths and a stage with live entertainment. The next day we headed about an hour north to boat the Pictured Rocks National Lake Shore on Lake Superior. If you ever have the chance to visit, its a must as you can see from the scenery. Lots of opportunities for snorkeling, driving and exploring water caves. Next, we hit the trails for some ORV time. Quickly heading to Lake Michigan to cool down, As you can see, just a short ten min drive to the coast, the fog is drastically dense compared to moments before in land of the Great Lake. Heading home to Ann Arbor, we always have breakfast at Dreamland and hit the Cheese House on our drive down state. Hope you enjoy watching!
Lake Michigan Home in Michigan's Eastern Upper Peninsula $299,500
If you want a killer bridge view but want to be a little further from the bridge, this could be the one. Located on a beautiful shoreline drive in the historic area of Gros Cap, this 3-bedroom ranch home offers a straight-on view of the Mackinac Bridge. With 100 feet of shoreline, a 2 car garage (with finish style sauna) this unique property is situated on a gently sloping Lake Michigan lot, just 5 minutes to downtown St. Ignace and 5 minutes to the famous sand dunes and public lands. This ranch home features a vaulted living room area with fireplace, great deck overlooking the front yard and Straits of Mackinac. An additional 100 ft. lot with pole barn may be available. This property is exempt from the flood plain and has supporting documentation. No restrictions in reference to the vacation rental market and would make a great vacation rental. #264810

So what sorts of adventures await you in the UP? The trees conceal the fact that this is a land of waterways. There are lakes, rivers, streams, and springs all over. Want to see waterfalls, you've come to the right place! The UP has plenty of them, and pretty ones at that! There are so many in fact that our kids started to complain every time we said we were going to see another one. Though they loved the ones they could play in.
Want to go to the beach...no problem. The UP is surrounded by three of the Great Lakes. If you've never seen the Great Lakes you owe it to yourself to experience these massive bodies of water. It's just like going to the ocean, except it's not salty, and Look Ma, no Sharks!
There are many boat tours around the Great Lakes that are really cool. We did a glass bottom boat tour, to see some of Lake Superiors many shipwrecks. Yes you heard right, shipwrecks. Thousands of ships have been sunk on the great lakes, and their clear waters make it possible to see and even scuba dive around many of them.
If you want to go boating but control your own destiny, consider Kayaking. In Michigan we discovered and fell in love with kayaking. Our Airbnb rental came with several kayaks and was right on the river. We spent almost every day paddling up and down the Au Train River, and couldn't get enough. The rivers excluded, The Great Lakes themselves have some world class kayaking destinations, such as the Apostle Islands in Wisconsin, and Pictured Rocks National Lake Shore in the UP itself.
If you don't feel like going by boat, the National Lake Shore is also accessible by land, and offers sweeping vistas of the lake, amazing hiking, and places to camp.
If you are in to Rock-hounding, This area offers some interesting finds, such as Lake Superior Agates and Petoskey stones. We found both without much effort.
Another fun thing to do in the UP is to visit Kitch-iti-Kipi or Big Spring, Michigan's largest natural freshwater spring. The spring is crystal clear and full of giant fish. There's a floating pavilion on the spring that you can take out to the middle where you stare down through 42 feet of crystal clear water straight to the bottom. You can see the sandy floor bubbling and boiling as 16,000 gallons of spring water bubble up per minute. It's really cool.
we definitely recommend getting at least a pasty or two while you're up here. They are tasty as heck, and a Yooper staple.
Lastly, perhaps my favorite thing that we did while we were here in the UP was to just stroll through the forest. The UP is covered in beautiful deciduous forest. Most of it is fairly young as forest goes, because much of it has been logged in the past. Regardless there is something about the shimmering sunlight coming down through the Beech and Birch trees that is just magical on a sunny afternoon. You almost expect to see a hobbit slipping silently away as you go up and down the hills and into gentle valleys. There is life everywhere under the golden green canopy of these woods, and for a nature lover, I couldn't get enough.
So there you have it, Nine things to do in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan! Did we leave something out? Let us know in the comments.
