Once, Medewi Beach was a thick forest of thorny trees (Meduwi). Now, it has become popular as one of the best surf spots in West Bali.
Located in Pekutatan, Jembrana Regency, beside the main street from Denpasar to Gilimanuk Harbour, it’s about 2 to 3 hours from Denpasar City and Denpasar Airport.

Medewi surf : one glassy morning in Bali
Shot a few clips while in Medewi, the waves were small but glassy and the light was just right. great spot for a mellow ride and a bintang.

We head north to Medewi for a change of pace and some long left handers off Medewi Point. When we arrived we stumbled upon what we believe is one of the best small hotels in Bali. Bombora Medewi Wavelodge has the best views from the infinity pool overlooking the waves. Great food, great staff and good times, and those Medewi sunsets will ensure we come back again. Medewi is also a great place to learn to surf.

MATG Bali Episode 1: Medewi & My First Surf Film
At the end of Last year I finally graduated from uni, and while my mates were looking for full time work, I started preparations for full time travel. It has always been my dream to travel the world, eating, surfing, exploring, so I spent the last four months working, as pool lifeguard, saving up and planning for my trip. I have always wanted to go to south America, but first I knew I had to improve my surfing.
So first I'm in Bali for two months to explore the island and hopefully spend everyday in the ocean. Then I’m finally setting off south America, to explore the waves, culture and adventure on offer there! Así que vamos para una aventura grande!
In the first episode of my Bali series, Made (Indonesia), Sara (Denmark), Olivia (Denmark) & myself go for a surf trip to Medewi, a quiet left hand point break on the coast of West Bali. The goal, to surf new waves and hopefully capture some wicked footage for me to make my first surf film.

If you like going fast - in or out of the water - I probably wouldn't bother with this place. But if you like a chilled vibe and your version of the ideal wave is slow, predictable and long, then Medewi should be on your list.
The wave is about as user friendly as it gets, so most of the crowd is made up of learners and intermediates. This equates to generally less egos in the lineup and definitely less hassling for a wave. And since it's a super long ride, it can handle more than a few heads.
