A Rich Geneva Day! - Episode II - WatchTrippin 2018
Support us on Patreon for extra interactions and goodies:
In this new episode of our WatchTrippin adventure, we mixed a few experiences all occurring in Geneva as we visited the Patek Philippe Museum, a real must for any watch fan coming to Geneva, followed by the visit of the atelier of URWERK, before going to Agenhor, home of so many complicated movements developed over the years.
We then went for a pretty different experience by going to the Geneva Watchmaking School and try to understand how young watchmakers are trained. But this did not stop there, as we then got to be trained ourselves precisely by these students and get a serious feel of not only how complicated the art of finishing is, but also live the passion that fuels these cool young kids.
Enjoy!

oday the “real stuff” is about to begin as our team of roadtrippers is ready to dive into a serious watchmaking environment. To set the background of this fabulous adventure, we thought it would be more than useful to put some perspective on the rich history of watchmaking; therefore, we take our team for a very private visit of the Patek Philippe Museum.
With 4,000 timepieces on display, this museum holds the most incredible watch collection in the world opened to the public, one that portrays the full spectrum of watchmaking history, beginning more than 500 years ago. But as its name clearly states, this museum also holds an outstanding collection of Patek Philippe watches. Any aficionado of the brand would simply go crazy in these walls!
This museum is found in the heart of Geneva; it is open Tuesday through Friday from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm and on Saturdays from 10:00 until 6:00 pm. Private guided tours are naturally possible. If you ever come to Geneva and like watchmaking, this place is simply a must!
Byzantium’s heritage
The Byzantine Empire had a lasting influence on modern-day Europe. The signs of this culture can also be found in Switzerland – for example in the Rath Museum in Geneva. (SRF/swissinfo.ch)

Visit to Audemars Piguet Grand Complications Workshop - Ep. 4 - WATCHMAKING ROADTRIP
It was time for the crew of our Watchmaking Roadtrip to leave Geneva, direction the Vallée-de-Joux, the heart of complicated watchmaking. But before getting there, we made a quick detour to a rather special chalet, sitting above Montreux and offering us an incredible view on the Lake Geneva. This was where we met a team of Audemars Piguet and none else than Olivier Audemars, one of the direct descendants of the two founders of the famous brand.
Audemars Piguet had just unveiled an important restoration project, but not one you could immediately imagine, since it partnered with the Montreux Jazz Festival, one of the world’s most important jazz gathering, on the restoration and digitalisation of all the music archives of the festival, whose first edition was precisely 50 years ago. This notion of memory preservation is naturally something very dear to many watchmakers.
But it was then time for us to hop on our bus and head to Le Brassus, home of the brand, and we immediately started with a very interesting visit of the Grande Complication workshop, where Audemars Piguet crafts and assembles some very impressive timepieces, but only 8 per year, and you will soon know why.

Patek Philippe's Concours Bienfacture & Precision
Support us on Patreon for extra interactions and goodies:
Training future watchmakers is naturally very crucial when in it comes to the future of the watchmaking industry and it is no surprise that Patek Philippe feels very concerned about this.
This is the main reason which pushed the brand in organising a contest addressed to students currently in their training in the six Swiss public watchmaking schools. Each school selects 3 students representing them in this contest and these students are then asked to assemble and regulate a Patek Philippe caliber according to precise technical specifications.
In this video, you will see what it takes for the students to achieve this and what motivated Patek Philippe in creating this contest with Mr. Thierry Stern, President of the brand.
For its ninth edition, we went and followed these students during the contest and we were also there at the Patek Philippe Museum for the award ceremony and we were very pleased to see that it was a girl that won this year's contest.
