The Best of Medieval Tallinn
This full day tour starts with a visit to the Song Festival Grounds with a capacity for 300,000 spectators and up to 30,000 performers sing. A short stop will provide you with an impression of the festivals that are held here every five years. Continue to Pirita, the beachside location of the yachting complex built for the 1980 Olympic Games where the 16th century ruins of St. Bridget's Convent can also be seen. A short drive follows to Tallinn's Upper Town, passing ancient walls and tower gateways. Disembark your coach at Tall Hermann Tower from where flies the national blue, black and white flag. Walk up Toompea Hill to Palace Square to view the Baroque Toompea Castle, now the residence of the Estonian Parliament, and to visit the Russian Orthodox Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, a dominating feature of Upper Town's city skyline and home to numerous golden icons and mosaics. Walk along Tallinn's medieval cobblestone streets and proceed to the scenic viewpoint over the Lower Town rooftops, where there will be limited time for shopping in the small shops. Descend Short Leg Street to the Lower Town for an independent visit to Town Hall Square and view the exterior of the Gothic Town Hall. Your lunch will be served at one of Tallinn's typical Old Town restaurants followed by a concert of medieval music in St. Nicholas Church. Continue your walk along Catherine's Passage, where shopping and browsing opportunities at the local craft workshops (including glass, leather, millinery and ceramic wares) await you. Return to the coach for the drive back to your ship.
Note: Guests must be able to walk approximately two miles over uneven surfaces and cobblestone streets, plus several inclines with approximately 90 steps. Time permitting; guests will have approximately 30 minutes for shopping and browsing. Tour order may vary but all mentioned sites will be covered. Due to national holidays, the medieval music concert will be held in Swedish at St. Michael`s Church on May 19th, 2013 and in the Church of Holy Spirit on June 24th, 2013.

Estonia’s largest outdoor pool reopens at Nõmme Spordikeskus
Good news if you like a cold swim during your sauna. Estonia’s largest outdoor pool (which also has a sauna and two wood-fired outdoor hot tubs next to it) has reopened in Tallinn, just in time for winter.

Crust Division Europa Tour 2007 - Part 2

Crust Division is a Hardcore/Thrash Band with lyrics about folklore of our hometown (Paracatu- in the northeast of Brazil) and the brazilian social problems as well. Paracatu is an ancient city that has many stories and tales told by its ancient people through generations. These stories concern the churches, the slaves and the mining of gold from the city subsoil. The first line up, the line up that composed all the songs and recorded the first CD was Lauro ( Guitar and Vocals), Marcionilio (Bass and Vocals) and Gleutão (Drums). For the Europe Tour 2007 the Line Up has changed to Lauro (Vocals), Allisson (Bass), Guilherme (Guitar), Bambi(Drums).

Finland hosts wife-carrying world championships
Twenty years since the first world wife carrying championship was held in Sonkajarvi, Finland, 40 pairs from seven countries assemble to take part in the 2013 edition of the event.
The contest is rooted in the legend of Ronkainen the Robber, said in the 19th century to have testing aspiring members of his gang by forcing them to lug sacks of grain or live animals over a similar course.
Another theory is that it stems from an even earlier tribal practice of wife-stealing.
In honour of this, many contestants now take up the challenge with someone else's wife.
This year, as in the four previous years, the winning couple was Finnish pair Taisto Miettinen and Kristiina Haapanen.
The most popular method of carrying the women is called the 'Estonian' method.
Wrapping the women's legs around the man's head and hanging upside-down behind them, it was allegedly inspired by how Eastern Europeans use to carry their women - at least according to folklore.
Miettinen said that he had been doing some track training in preparation of defending his title, but had been slower than anticipated during the race.
His winning time over the 253.5 metre track was one minute and 0.22 seconds.
The world record for the event still stands at 56.9 seconds.
Estonians Zahkna and Merlin Zahkna came second, roughly four seconds after the Finnish pair, while Matt Witko and Hattie Archer of Great Britain came third.
They had only come together a few days before the contest when Witko, a UK national champion, had advertised on social media for a wife to carry.

St Petersburg Russia Spilled Blood Church
After our 2 hour whirlwind visit, we had time for one more stop before the end of our day in St Petersburg, and that would be the Church of the Savior on Blood, or Spilled Blood Church. The Church was build on the site where Emperor Alexander II was fatally wounded in March 1881.
The church is prominently situated along the Griboedov Canal, with paved roads running along both sides. On March 13, 1881, as Tsar Alexander's carriage passed along the embankment, a grenade thrown by an anarchist conspirator exploded. The Tsar, shaken but unhurt, got out of the carriage and a second conspirator took the chance to throw another bomb, killing himself (aka like a suicide bomber) and mortally wounding the Tsar. The Tsar, bleeding heavily, was taken back to the Winter Palace where he died a few hours later.
