Interlaken, Bern, Thun, Switzerland
Interlaken in the heart of the Alps and Bern, at 8:42 are two of the great destinations of Switzerland presented in this practical guide, along with the historic city of Thun at 25:10 in the travel video.
Please subscribe:
Switzerland playlist Interlaken makes a perfect home base for exploring the beautiful mountains all around the central region of Switzerland, offering many hotels, restaurants and shops, and wonderful train and bus connections to get up to the mountain sites. Tourists have been coming to Interlaken and the area since about 1800 when it was first popularized by some romantic painters and then tourism really increased in the 1890s and early 1900s with the opening of railway service.
Some of the world's most spectacular mountain scenery is waiting for you just outside of Interlaken in the heart of the Swiss Alps. In this movie we’re focusing on how to get the most out of your visit to the town. For the more adventurous you can go paragliding. Or for something less adventurous you can just rent a bicycle and go peddle around. There's a lot to see in the Interlaken area. The town itself is relatively flat and you can peddle through the shopping areas and up into the residential zones.
A main activity in town is shopping – all sorts of souvenirs for sale, clothing, you can buy some hiking gear. It's a great place for backpacks, for boots, hats, clothing of all kinds, walking sticks and a T-shirt that says Interlaken.
There's not much of a pedestrian zone that's free of automobiles here but they do have one little lane that's for pedestrians. But the rest of town is very friendly for walking around, the sidewalks are wide and there's always things to look at and things to do.
The great meadow forms a major park, beautifully landscaped and kept in a semi-natural state with flowers and trees and the meadow along one side and grand hotels on the other.
If you’re a gambler there is a casino like there is in most Swiss towns and it's an elegant place. It’s part of the Kursal complex which for 100 years has been a cultural center of the city, set in a beautiful park with fountains and flowers.
Another major attraction worth seeing near Interlaken is the city of Bern the political capital of Switzerland and it's just one hour away by train.
The Bern train station is right next to the old town so your walk through the historic zone begins the moment you arrive. The main street proceeds directly from the front of the train station right through the historic center. It's one street about ten blocks long, but it changes name several times. By the station and it's the Spitalgasse, then it becomes the Marktgasse, then the Kramgasse, then the Gerechtigkeitsgasse. Today, it's the main street of Bern, as it has been for centuries. This road is remarkable, not only for the ancient buildings and arcades that cover both sides, but for the spectacular Renaissance fountains down the middle. Today it's a popular shopping street with surprisingly modern shop interiors, and there's a slight curve with a long line of Baroque façades that combine to produce one of Bern's most impressive streetscapes. This Kramgasse and its buildings are part of the UNESCO World Heritage site that encompasses the entire old city of Bern – a very impressive honor that UNESCO has designated all of the historic area as a World Heritage Site.
At the end of town across the river they have their famous bear pits. In recent years the government has greatly expanded this bear habitat to make it really a pleasant place for the bears to live.
Another important building is the Gothic cathedral with the nation's highest church tower at 328 feet, which you may climb for a bird’s eye view of the historic center. Construction of the cathedral began in 1421 in the Gothic style. It is a three-nave basilica without a transept or aisles, 85 m long and 34 m wide – it is quite huge. The walls outside are supported by flying buttresses and the majority of the building is constructed with local sandstone, and bricks were used for the ceiling for the vaults.
On the train ride back to Interlaken it is easy to get off at the picturesque city of Thun and spend a few hours walking around, enjoying the special ambience of this place, with a river running through the middle of the Old Town and a unique two-level sidewalk on the main pedestrian street. Then return to Interlaken and continue our exploration of this great city.
This video is part of a longer series that we're presenting all about Switzerland, including Lucerne, Zürich, Zermatt, Lugano, Locarno, and a lot of beautiful mountaintops scenery to share with you.
Interlaken, Bern, Thun, Switzerland,
The Happiest Place in Switzerland!
Switzerland's Happiest Place is easy to find. On quality of life surveys and rankings, Switzerland seems very happy. But it is not really tangible. Is it Zurich, Lucerne or Basel? Maybe Geneva? Or should you look in the tourists spots of Jungfraujoch, Lauterbrunnen, Interlaken or Grindelwald?
On the boulevard of Grindelwald, we finally came up with a answer to this question. We have found the place in Switzerland where people are extraordinarily happy!

What to see and do at Jungfraujoch - The top of Europe, Switzerland.

You reach Jungfraujoch by 3 mountain railways. The trip takes over 2 hours and is full of interest. Once at the top there are multiple things to do. You need to allow several hours to enjoy the experience.
Visit the Jungfrau Panorama, the Alpine Sensation, the Sphinx Terrace and the Ice Palace. They are all free. Enjoy sledging, snow tubing, skiing or snow boarding using rental equipment from the Snow Fun Park. Take a glacier walk to a mountain hut or to the iconic Swiss flag. Before leaving grab some food at one of the restaurants and cafes, explore the world of chocolate, and treat yourself to a souvenir in one of several shops. You can bring your own food and drinks if you wish.

Any trip to Switzerland is incomplete without experiencing a bit of DDLJ. A landmark movie, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge changed the Bollywood romance forever. A partial contribution was added by beautiful locations of Switzerland. Some of the DDLJ shooting locations in Switzerland were in Gstaad and Saanen and in this video, as a budget traveler, I explored these beautiful villages, visiting these surprisingly beautiful places in Switzerland.
As I personally am a big fan of DDLJ and this is the only movie I ever watched more 2 times... So much so... I must have watched it like 25 times already... I really wanted to check the beautiful swiss locations introduced to us by Bollywood. As a budget Indian traveler and a travel vlogger from India visiting Europe, I wanted to visit all DDLJ locations in Switzerland but finding them wasn’t really easy. It took a lot of time to find every piece of detail that I have added in this video and I chose the locations of Gstaad and Saanen particularly because they had the maximum concentration of locations where DDLJ was shot in Switzerland.

Jungfraujoch, Top of Europe, SWITZERLAND (via Zurich-Lucern-Grindelwald-Interlaken)
Hello again wonderful people,
Today I am back with a compilation of a journey very close to me. A place which is profoundly called as “Heaven on Earth” and that’s none other than Switzerland, Swiss Alps. So out of curiosity and to find out myself (after looking at the pictures online), I took a train tour to the highest train station in Europe, and boom I did land on heaven (if heaven exists, I claim it to be somewhat similar).
HOW I REACHED: On Day 1, I took a flight from Copenhagen (where I currently live) to Zurich and decided to explore the beautiful city that day. The city was a perfect blend of water, distant alps, trees and settlements which was indeed a delightful site. After having a wonderful dinner at a local restaurant, I decided to head to my hotel early for the Day 2 Jungfraujoch tour, via Lucern, Interlaken and Grindelwald :)
On Day 2:
I reached the pick up location for the bus-train tour at around 8am near Central Station. And after marking my attendance I, along with other tourist were ready to go! And what happened next is beyond words, but I will still try. A lovely picture perfect sights (poster scenes) crossed our eyes every second. Each scene seemed to be better than the other, and it got better and better making me wonder what could be better than this. And I was amazed every time by a new scene. Cows grazing in the nature habitat was a sight worth remembering. River Limat, on the way was my favorite experience.
Soon, after exploring scenic villages likes Lucern and Grindelwald by bus, we had a quick halt at Interlaken which seemed like a wonderland! We were seemed to be closer to the alps this time and the sight was incredibly beautiful. At this point I was so excited to see how would it be to be in the top :)
Sooner we reached the train station, which took us in a ride that was so magical that I still feel mesmerized by the memories. In no time we got to a level where on the either side of the train were beautiful alps. It felt as though I was watching a movie. My eyes were so struck on the beautiful snow that I had no senses other than that. We also halted at a station spot to have a clear view of the alps (before going further), where we experienced slight snow/water drip.
In no time we reached to Jungfraujoch, which had so many activities like snow sports, souvenir shops, cafes, galleries, games, etc. that even two days won’t be enough to explore everything. Due to time constraint I decided to first visit the Sphinx Observatory with the splendid views and to next experience the snow zip line activity. And trust me, both were experiences I would cherish forever. It was so beautiful that I felt hypnotized right away.
Then on our way back, we again crossed the beautiful scenes that felt evening more majestic during sunset!
BOOKING: I booked my tour via GetYourGuide website online prior to my travel. You can either download the app or log on to their website to book. Also booking on the spot via local shops, is also an option. Most of them are near central area of Zurich (central station). But it is also better to purchase the tours online for less price and hassle.
In all, Zurich is a beautiful city which looks great in the morning but the color reflections on the lake at night adds more to its charm. Interlaken is a must visit, and if you could manage to have a stay there, then it is even better. But my highest recommendation is to visit Jungfraujoch/Sphinx Observatory for sure, it is an experience you would never, ever forget. If you want to indulge in nature completely, like me than Solo traveling is highly recommended. Try it and you won’t be disappointed.
Let me know, how do you like my video and feel free to shoot questions in comment box below.
Thanks for watching :)
Be Happy and don’t forget to Love Yourself!
Love,
Prachi.

Geneva is one of those cities in Europe that absolutely blew my mind. Many boring travel guides are available these days for Geneva and are often all the same, that's why I dug deep into Geneva to bring you the best hidden spots.
Start your adventure in Geneva at Bains des Paquis especially on a sunny day. The whole city comes together to enjoy to pure waters of Lake Geneva and watch the live music during the Sunrise Festival at 6:00am every day.
Geneva is most famous for Jet d'Eau, the giant fountain in the middle of Lake Gevena and considered the most iconic fountain in the world. This 140 meters tall fountain can be seen from miles away while 500 liters of water blast through the air every second.
During the evening you can hangout at Bains des Paquis while you enjoy traditional Swiss cheese fondue and make friends with many locals.
Geneva also offers their popular summer festival hold on August 4th until August 14th and ends with a massive fireworks show.
My hidden secrets are lunch at Chez Ma Cousine, an afforable restaurant in the old town of Geneva and the budget no-name convenience store on the crossing of Rue de Zurich & Rue de Paquis.
Other places of interest are United Nations headquarters, the FREE bike rental shop called Geneveroule where you only have to provide a deposit to borrow a bike and last; you can actually see Mont Blanc from the Lake Geneva waterfront (unknown to many tourists).
Have a safe journey!
