With only a short amount of time in Hungary we knew Budapest had to be the place to visit, travel and vlog. Today was exploring the Buda side of the city starting with Chain Bridge, then up to Buda Castle and further around to Fishermans Bastion.
The Chain Bridge has so many interesting stories about it's build, but we love the story of the Hungarian stunt pilot flying underneath, year before we visited in 2018.
Walking over the Chain Bridge we arrived at the base of the Buda Castle, aka Budapest Castle. There was a festival on so we couldnt get full access to the Castle grounds sadly, but the view back over the city of Budapest and the Chain Bridge made it worth it.
Further around to Fishermans Bastion we discovered the most epic little church, more views of Budapest and hundreds of people. Definitely walk the back streets of Fishermans Bastion and get lost in the little lane ways.

A visit to the iconic Chain Bridge that spans over the river Danube and links Buda with Pest (the two boroughs that compound Budapest, in Hungary). It dates back to 1849 and was considered at that time one of the world's most modern engineering building.

The Chain Bridge in Budapest, or as it is called in Hungarian the Széchenyi Lánchíd, was the first permanent bridge in Budapest that spans the Danube between Buda and Pest when it was first opened in 1849. Previous to that there were only ferries crossing the river Danube connecting the two parts of Budapest to make it one city. On Buda side it is anchored on Adam Clark Square where the Zero kilometer stone is located (from which the distance of all Hungarian highways is measured). On the other side of the Danube in Pest, it is anchored on Széchenyi Square where the absolutely stunning Gresham Palace hotel is located. You also find there the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. On its opening in 1849 it was one of the longest bridges in Europe and was named next to the Brooklyn Bridge in New York as one of the most stunning bridges around the world. It became a symbol of advancement for Hungary and as a linking of east and West. With its span of 202 meters it is exactly as long as the tunnel it points to on Buda side and legends say that during bad weather you can push the bridge into the tunnel. On both sides there are 2 lions decorating the abutments which were carved by sculptor Marschalko János. However the lions do not have a longue and a legend say that Marschalko killed himself by jumping of the bridge after everybody made a fool of him. The Chain Bridge in Budapest is considered one of Budapest’s most popular sights due to the fact that at night it is lightened up with hundreds of lights which is a very popular photo for tourists.

The Széchenyi Chain Bridge (Hungarian: Széchenyi lánchíd) is a suspension bridge that spans the River Danube between Buda and Pest, the western and eastern sides of Budapest, the capital of Hungary. Designed by the English engineer William Tierney Clark, it was the first permanent bridge across the Danube in Budapest, and was opened in 1849.
It is anchored on the Pest side of the river to Széchenyi (formerly Roosevelt) Square, adjacent to the Gresham Palace and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and on the Buda side to Adam Clark Square, near the Zero Kilometer Stone and the lower end of the Castle Hill Funicular, leading to Buda Castle.
The bridge has the name of István Széchenyi, a major supporter of its construction, attached to it, but is most commonly known as the Chain Bridge. At the time of its construction, it was regarded as one of the modern world's engineering wonders.[citation needed] It has asserted an enormous significance in the country's economic, social and cultural life, much as the Brooklyn Bridge has in New York and United States of America. Its decorations made of cast iron, and its construction, radiating calm dignity and balance, have elevated the Chain Bridge to a high stature in Europe. It became a symbol of advancement, national awakening, and the linkage between East and West.

The bridge was opened in 1849, after the Hungarian Revolution of 1848, and thus became the first permanent bridge in the Hungarian capital. It was designed by the English Engineer William Tierney Clark in 1839, following an initiative by the influential Count István Széchenyi, with construction supervised locally by Scottish Engineer Adam Clark (no relation). It is a larger scale version of William Tierney Clark's earlier Marlow Bridge, across the River Thames in Marlow, England. The imposing lions at each of the abutments were carved in stone by the sculptor János Marschalkó.
