Formentera is a municipality and also the smallest inhabited island of the Balearic Islands. It lies approximately 7 kilometers south of Ibiza, is 19 kilometers long and has about nine thousand inhabitants. Together with a series of uninhabited islands Ibiza and Formentera is the group Pitiusen, a sort of sub-group of the Balearic Islands. The highest point is the rocky coast of La Mola (192 meters) where in 1978 a memorial was erected for Jules Verne described the island in one of his books. The municipality consists of the eponymous island of Formentera and a number of uninhabited islands which Espalmador (240 ha) and Espardell (60 ha) the most important. The main town is Sant Francesc de Formentera (Spanish: San Francisco de Formentera). The island is accessible only by boat and is calmer than the other Balearic Islands. The crossing takes 35 minutes (fast ferry) to an hour (car ferry). On most beaches naturism is allowed

Impressions of one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe: Playa Llevant. Also footage of the capital Sant Francesc, the former salt winning fields (nowadays a National Parc) and other beaches. Also be witness of the catch of the day by fishermen, who still do it the traditional way. The island Formentera is something special.

Places to see in ( Formentera - Spain )
Formentera is the smallest of Spain’s Balearic islands in the Mediterranean Sea. Formentera is reachable by ferry from its more crowded, better known island neighbor, Ibiza, and makes for a popular day-trip destination in the summertime. Formentera is known for its clear waters and long stretches of beach backed by dunes and pine trees. Pastimes include snorkeling and sailing, with equipment rentals and boat charters available.
The main island of Formentera is 19 kilometres (12 mi) long and is located about 6 kilometres (4 mi) south of Ibiza in the Mediterranean Sea. More specifically Formentera is part of the delimitation of the Balearic Sea which is a northwestern element of the Mediterranean Sea. Formentera major villages are Sant Francesc Xavier, Sant Ferran de ses Roques, El Pilar de la Mola and La Savina. Formentera comprises one municipality, also called Formentera
North of Formentera is the island of Espalmador (Illa de s'Empalmador in Catalan), which is the second largest island of the municipality, and is itself surrounded by a few minor islets. Espalmador is a tombolo, separated from the main island of Formentera by a shallow sandbar, and during low tide, it is possible for one to wade between the two islands. This area is a popular stopping point for those in yachts heading between Ibiza and Formentera.
Since the 1960s, Formentera has been a popular destination for hippies. Formentera is renowned across Europe for many pristine white beaches and the fact that nude sunbathing is allowed on most of its beaches. The Canadian writer Patrick Roscoe was born on Formentera. Meanwhile, Joni Mitchell wrote her 1971 album Blue on the island while Bob Dylan once lived in the Cap de Barbaria lighthouse on the island. Author Matt Haig also writes about visiting the island often in his twenties in Reasons to Stay Alive. The King Crimson album Islands' opening track, 'Formentera Lady' is named after the Island. Although metalled roads allow access to all parts of the island and cars are easily hired in the port, many people choose to rent mopeds or even bicycles due to the flat nature of most of the island and the availability of dedicated cycle tracks in many locations. The island also has four Martello towers.
Ferries to Formentera operate from their own terminal in Ibiza port, with departures every half hour in high season on large (200+ passenger) fast catamarans. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes with 10 minutes each leaving Ibiza, crossing the sea, and arriving in Formentera past the isthmus to Espalmador.

Formentera Travel - Formentera is the smallest and southernmost island of the Illes Pitiüses group (which includes Ibiza and Formentera) and belongs to the Balearic Islands autonomous community (Spain). It is 19 kilometres (12 mi) long and is located approximately 6 kilometres (4 mi) south of Ibiza in the Mediterranean Sea. Its major villages are Sant Francesc Xavier, Sant Ferran de ses Roques, El Pilar de la Mola and La Savina.
The island was reachable by ship only from Ibiza, making it the quieter of the two islands but in recent years regular lines from the Spanish mainland have increased the amount of tourism. It is known for its many pristine beaches and the fact that nude sunbathing is allowed on most of its beaches.

Formentera 2015
Formentera, Islas Balearics, Spain
My 5th visit to Formentera. Video starts in the sea at Migjorn then cuts to a walk around Etany Pudent from Es Pujols toSan Francisco Javier. The walk is filmed on a GoPro with hand-held gimbal and is also cut in with aerial footage of the salt lake from a DJI Phantom + Vision 2.
In one shot shows a good view of the length of the island from Estany to La Mola in the distance - both sides of the island are visible here.
Later there is DJI footage from Es Calo back towards Estany - again both sides of the island are visible along with the stunning azure blue sea and million dollar yachts moored just off shore.
There is also some DJI video taken at dawn over the salt pans at Ses Salinas from where you can see the beaches of Illetes to the left and Levant to the right merging to a point in the distance with Espalmador beyond and Ibiza in the far distance.
We finish at the opposite and of the island at La Mola and look at the lighthouse (El Faro) and the steep cliffs that drop 100s of feet to the open Mediteranian Sea. Thanks to Astbury Formentera - our friendly travel company with offices in the port of La Savina.

FORMENTERA młodsza siostra Ibizy - zwiedzanie rowerem odc. 3
