David’s Been Here takes you to Bosnia and Herzegovina to discover what to see and do in the beautiful city of Mostar. The city is well known in the Balkans for its impressive Ottoman-era architecture and laid-back atmosphere. When there aren’t tourists, the old part of the city is ideal for strolling, shopping, and sipping coffee at a local kafana (coffee shop).
David and his friend Sasha spend 2 days exploring Mostar. Their first stop is also the most popular attraction in town – the 16th century Stari Most Bridge (means “Old Bridge”). Sasha explains a little bit about Stari Most’s history and how you can watch the world-famous Mostari Dive Club members do the death-defying jump into the freezing Neretva River below.
David and Sasha then make a quick stop at the Crooked Bridge, which was used as a trial run before the Ottomans built Stari Most. Afterwards David is able to capture two different jumps off Stari Most, which is exciting since tourists don’t always scrounge up enough to pay the divers the 25-euro fee to jump for the crowd. It may seem fun and games, but it is actually quite dangerous! Sasha explains that anyone can jump but they must first get training from a member of the dive club.
Then onto the Biscevica House, a beautiful 17th century Turkish home that holds a great deal of folk art and features traditional architecture. It was built in 1637 and has been in the same family for the past 4 generations. The most intriguing architectural feature of the Biscevica House is the sitting room supported by only 2 exterior pillars. Biscevica House is a museum, so anyone can visit. Other beautiful features include the hand-carved wood and copper works.
Onto the next stop, which is the Muslibegovic House, another 17th century Turkish house that currently serves as a museum/ hotel. In 2010, Expedia.com readers voted the Muslibegovic House 8th best hotel in the world.
David then heads to Koski-Mehmed Pasha Mosque to go up to the top of its minaret for bird’s eye views of Mostar and the iconic Stari Most Bridge. Sasha then takes David to another beautiful building in Mostar, the Karadjoz Bey Mosque. It dates back to 1556 and was built by the Ottomans. This is actually one of the largest Mosques in the country.
We hope you enjoyed David’s suggestions for what to see and do in Mostar.

EVENTFUL DAY IN MOSTAR || Bosnia and Herzegovina Vlog
#mostar #travelvlog #visitbosnia
Today I explore Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina. I had an incredible day walking around this old town. I loved learning about the history of this town. I spend the first part of the day exploring on my own around the Mostar Bridge, then I sample a traditional dish. I end the day with an incredible walking tour where I had the privilege of learning about the war from someone who experienced it. Most of this isn't in the video as I have missing footage, but I had to mention it. It was one of the most enlightening days of my travels so far.

10 Things to do in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina Travel Guide Video Transcript: (Мостар)
Welcome to Mostar! In today’s video we’re showing you around one of the great gems of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Mostar was one of the many stops of our travels through the Balkans, but it ranked right at the very top! This city is as postcard-perfect as they come, complete with Ottoman constructions, soaring minarets, and colourful buildings that overlook the emerald waters of the Neretva River. Our time here was spent wandering through the markets, sampling local dishes, and visiting a few mosques and museums along the way, so come and join us in this travel guide as we show you around Mostar (Мостар) and give you a few ideas for your own trip!
This street is lined with restaurants, cafes, and hotels, but as you approach the famed Old Bridge, it turns into a bit of a bazaar with small shops that are bursting at the seams with souvenirs.
Stari Most, also known as the Old Bridge, which is the city’s main landmark. This 16th-century Ottoman bridge joins the two parts of the city across the River Neretva.
And that’s a wrap for Mostar! This was one of our favourite destinations of 2017.
With its Ottoman architectural wonders, delicious dishes served in heaping platters, and warm locals who take hospitality to a whole new level, there’s a lot to love about the city! Mostar is strikingly beautiful, but it’s the people who give the place its soul.
Yes, the city’s been through a lot, and it still bears the scars of a horrible war fought in the 90s, but Mostar has picked itself up and is showing visitors all it has to offer.
We hope you enjoyed getting to experience this city through our eyes on this travel guide, and as always, if you have any other suggestions of things to do in Mostar, feel free to share your tips with travellers in the comments below.

WHY YOU NEED TO VISIT MOSTAR, BOSNIA (travel guide)
Of all the places I’ve traveled, Mostar in Bosnia, Herzegovina took me by surprise and stole my heart! With cobblestone streets, old medieval buildings, and its beautiful bridge overlooking emerald waters, this place looks like a fairytale and deserves a visit!
Mostar was one of the most heavily bombed cities during the Bosnian war which was a conflict that raged between 1992 and 1995. It was a war of genocide, the first since wwII, and it killed hundreds of thousands, and displaced milions of people. The city is now a UNESCO World Heritage site and it’s gone through a series of detailed reconstruction projects to preserve the historic core and authenticity.

A day at Stari Most in Mostar Bosnia and Herzegovina!
#discoverBIH #pittsburghtraveler #Bosnia
We spent the day at Stari Most (literally 'Old Bridge'), also known as Mostar Bridge. It is a rebuilt 16th-century Ottoman bridge in the city of Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina that crosses the river Neretva and connects the two parts of the city. The Old Bridge stood for 427 years, until it was destroyed on 9 November 1993 by Croat paramilitary forces during the Croat–Bosniak War. Subsequently, a project was set in motion to reconstruct it; the rebuilt bridge opened on 23 July 2004.

Bosnia & Herzegovina - Land of Wonders
Bosnia-Herzegovina is a place to discover. After two weeks of traveling in the country, I realized that Bosnia-Herzegovina is much more than a former Yugoslav Republic, dating its history back to the 12th century. The combination of overwhelming natural attractions and warm, hospitable people make Bosnia-Herzegovina quite an interesting place to visit and explore. The different religious creeds and social mixture give another point of interest to this country from the cultural and sociologic standpoints. Don’t miss the impressive waterfalls in Jajce and Kravice and enjoy the cosmopolitan ambience of Mostar and Sarajevo. History and modern life; art, religion and culture; you will find it all in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Take your time to enjoy and learn a bit more about this Balkan country, definitely a land of wonders. Footage taken in August 2017.
South Bosnia: Tour of Mostar, Konjic, Jablanica, Počitelj & Blagaj
Today we continue our Bosnian holiday by venturing further into the heart of Herzegovina and explore Konjic, Jablanica, Počitelj, Blagaj, and Mostar (where we see a jump from the famous bridge!). Join me as we take a day tour from Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and explore the beauty of southern Bosnia.
In Konjic, we explore the old bridge & old town. In Jablanica, we learn about the greatest WW2 story of Bosnia - the Battle of Neretva. Then we explore Počitelj, to explore the pearl of Ottoman-mediterranean architecture, before heading to Blagaj where we visit the dervish house and buna river. Then we finally end our trip in the epic city of Mostar
This UNESCO based trip is undoubtedly one of the best ways to plunge into experiencing this southern region of Herzegovina and its breathtaking scenery. It also offers a deeper insight into the fascinating cultural diversity and mind provoking history of the country.

How to beat the heat while visiting Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Tour Guide Mostar brings tips on how to beat the heat while visiting Mostar.
1. First of all, stay hydrated. Drink water, drink lots of it. The tap water in Mostar is safe for drinking. Avoid soda, alcoholic beverages and caffeine products as they cause dehydration.
2. Dress appropriately. Wear loose-fitted, light colored clothes. Cotton lets your skin breathe during summers. Wear a hat or tie a bandanna. Let your feet breathe too.
3. Plan your day well. Set out early before the sun is right above your head. Return to your accommodation by afternoon and retire to a nice nap. This will refresh you for an awesome evening and night ahead in Mostar.
4. If you dare to be adventurous, cool off in the Neretva river. Keep in mind that even in the ultrahot weather, the water was fairly cold. Dive right in and give yourself a few moments while your body adjusts to the change in temperature.

Bosnian Food Review - 5 Things to try in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina Travel Video Transcript:
Well hello there! We managed to find a really cool restaurant and we're going to go film there today. The rain hasn't stopped but it is a little bit lighter so we're going to make our way there and yeah show you what Bosnian and Herzegovina food is all about.
I'm very excited to be trying Bosnian coffee. Oh yeah. This is my very 1st time to try it. Apparently it is very similar to Turkish coffee. Super strong. It is supposed to be very strong. The grounds apparently are uh the coffee grounds are still at the very bottom. Yeah, so they're not filtered. They are not filtered out of the water so you have to let them yep settle before you pour yourself a cup.
It is nice and strong.
Also I feel like I should mention where we are eating because we kind of just ran in here with our umbrellas and didn't really show you the outside. It is called Šadrvan and it is on the west side of the river just as soon as you cross the bridge.
The feast has landed on the table. It sure has. And we're going to start with the first dish which is Dolma. Yeah. And if you have a closer look at this it is basically stuffed peppers with minced meat, rice, parsley, onions and it comes with a giant dollop of cream in the middle. A giant dollop.
This is kind of the ultimate mix plate with tonnes of sour cream. Sour cream. So then you have another one dolma stuffed pepper over there. One dolma.
What is really cool over here is you have it looks like some stewed meat. It is so tender I had that last night. And then you have the Bosnian cookies which is not a cookie at all.
So what is in it? I had this last night and it is basically like a beef patty. Right. So it made with ground beef, eggs, garlic, I think onions and like a little bit of breadcrumbs to give it texture along with rice.
Okay dish number 3. This isn't actually a main. This was our side order. Yeah. And we were trying to keep things relatively healthy. Yeah. So we got a grilled vegetable platter. So if you take a closer look we've got some slices of eggplant, zucchini. We have some mushrooms. It looks like another whole pepper.
And now for dessert and we're having Baklava. It is basically kind of like a mille feux pastry. Like a puffed pastry with all of these layers. And in between you've got like these finely chopped nuts. Yeah. With either honey or some kind of sugary syrup.
We just paid the bill. We sure did. What was the damage? So in local currency which is Bosnian Convertible Marka which has like I think 1.6 exchange rate with the US dollar. That came to twenty two US dollars and fifty cents and in Euros that was 19.40.
We'd give it a five out of five. We'll be back again. Tata!

Day Trip to Blagaj Dervish House from Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina travel vlog
While in Mostar, we took a day trip to visit the town of Blagaj. This place is famous for its dervish monastery (Blagaj Tekija or Blagaj Tekke) which sits at the foot of a cliff and next to the emerald green waters of the Buna River. Getting from Mostar to Blagaj is pretty easy (if you don't miss the infrequent bus connections like we did) - it's only 30 minutes by public transit and you can take bus # 11, 12, or 13 to get there. Be sure to check the schedule of the bus as we had the wrong information online and we ended up waiting over an hour to catch it coming to Blagaj from Mostar.
Also, be warned the food is REALLY BAD in Blagaj by the monastery. It was the worst meal we've had all year in Europe with stale poneta and water hummus that tasted like nothing at all. All of the restaurants, the five located by the river, have bad reviews so eat in Mostar which has great restaurants. Also keep in mind this is an easy day trip from Mostar and it should take no longer than 1/2 day to visit here including transportation to and from Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Day Trip to Blagaj Dervish House from Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina travel vlog script:
Good morning guys. Today is a day trip day. Yeah. We are going to Blagaj which is basically like a monastery in a cave by a river. Something like that. It looks beautiful. Basically and it is so close to where we are staying in Mostar.
We stopped at a bakery along the way to pick up a snack for the road, and then we crossed the bridge to the west side of Mostar to catch the bus to Blagaj.
We picked up a little snack along the way. This is post-breakfast. I got myself the mixed cheese burek which is really good. It is almost gone. Um, yeah but now we wanted to show you guys where to catch the bus to visit Blagaj.
Basically it is in front of this giant yellow building. It is called the United World College where there is a bus stop. here is a schedule posted right here at the bus stop. You can take the 10, 11 or 12 and yeah there is just too many times for me to read them all out. So just check it once you're here.
Alright guys so we finally found a restaurant. I was actually checking the reviews on the few restaurants that are in this area. None of the reviews are very high. Everyone says the food is quite mediocre. Um, so we've ordered. I've got some polenta with cheese. Sam got some hummus. Um I will say everything very overpriced. And I've already tried my food and it has not been amazing.
Now for the reason we had come all the way to Blagaj, that would be to visit Blagaj Tekija, a Dervish monastery which is tucked under a cliff and sits by the source of the Buna River. The structure is believed to date back to the 1520s and it contains elements of Ottoman architecture and Mediterranean style, making it a national monument.
Once we were covered up, we were able to visit the monastery. This mainly involves walking through a series of carpeted rooms with a few religious texts and minimal furniture. But I think the main draw are the views you get of the monastery from the other side of the Buna River.
If you visit during the summer months, you can pay to take a short boat ride into the cave. We visited in late autumn, so that wasn’t really an option, but we snapped a few photos and enjoyed the bright foliage.
We have finished our visit. We're walking back to town now to go catch our bus. Yeah. It is time for thoughts Samuel. Thoughts. We'll start with the most positive and it is just absolutely gorgeous setting. Stunning. Some amazing views every it is worth exploring in all directions. Walk across all of the bridges, see it from both sides and so on. The Dervish House I found more impressive on the outside than inside.

Striking Karađoz Bey Mosque in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina
The city of Mostar is a place where you can discover and be amazed by unique architecture monuments.
Alongside the striking Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque in Mostar , the Karađoz Bey Mosque is the most important monumental work of Islamic sacred architecture from the 16th century in the region of Herzegovina.
It was built in1557. by Mehmed Bey Karagöz (Mehmed-beg Karađoz), the brother of Ottoman vizier Rüstem Pasha.
The size of the interior is 13,4x13,4 meters. You will be able to see the big ornamented dome and tall minaret.
Like all the other mosques in Mostar didn’t get a pass from the hand of the war.
In the Second World War it was severely damaged, and in the last war it was almost completely destroyed. However, it underwent extensive repairs between 2002 and 2004.
Today the mosque stands proudly once again to receive visitors from all over the world in all of its glory.

Разходка в Мостар | Босна и Херцеговина | A Walk in Mostar | Bosnia and Herzegovina
Mostar is a city of exceptional beauty located in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
After rafting along the Drina and Tara (link to video) the next stop of my journey on the Balkan peninsula was Mostar. The road from the rafting center to the city is very beautiful. It runs through a mountainous region and in April everything is green and fresh.
The old city of Mostar is marvellous. The city isn’t big and is surrounded by mountains which gives it a particular charm. The cobblestone streets lined with lots of souvenir shops, the craft shops, the eateries and cafes create a very pleasant atmosphere. Mostar was full of people, vibrant and interesting. The main tourist sight is Stari Most (the Old Bridge), which is on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. It was built in the 16th c and is 24 m tall. It was completely demolished during the bombings in 1993 and then was rebuilt. Everyone who visits the city walks along the bridge and looks at the Neretva River from on high. There were also daredevils who were jumping from it. Some of them for a cause, others for money. This is a huge attraction here, especially during the warm months. In many places around the city there were signs reading „don’t forget ‘93“ because of the events from the early 90s and the large number of victims during the war.
Another interesting place that I visited was The Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque. I went up all the 89 stairs of the minaret to relish the spectacular view of the Old Bridge.
The food in Mostar was tasty and the servings huge. That’s how it is on the Balkans!
I visited the most popular places to eat – Divan and Shadrvan and was pleased. I didn’t spend much time in Mostar but if I’d had more time, I’d have stayed for at least 2-3 days because I liked it.
In the morning I said bye to the Old Bridge and Mostar and set off to the next stop of my Balkan journey - Dubrovnik. Video coming soon!

Our favorite Bosnian Food in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina at Ćevabdžinica Tima-Irma
Come join us for our favorite Bosnian food in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina as we head over to Ćevabdžinica Tima-Irma that specializes in grilled meat platters and Ćevapi minced meat.
What makes this particular restaurant in Mostar are favorite place to eat a Bosnian meal? Firstly, the portions are enormous and quality of the meat, cheeses and produce is fantastic and beautifully presented. Secondly, the friendly atmosphere and service of this family run business makes you want to come back again and again. As we paid and left a tip we were given a postcard and beer to take back home.
That kind of level of customer service is beyond and above 99.9% of other restaurants anywhere in the world. We absolutely loved this place and it is our number one recommended place to eat at in Mostar. Here is a list of the dishes we ordered:
1) Mixed grilled meat platter with various sausages, chicken, different kinds of cheese and vegetables
2) Ćevapi / ćevapčići - grilled dish of minced meat with flatbread (Samun - lepinje), onions and sauce (Ajvar)
3) Bosnian dessert (Ružica) similar to Baklava
4) Tea to go along with dessert
5) Local beer from mostar (Mostarsko Pivo)

Our favorite Bosnian Food in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina at Ćevabdžinica Tima Irma travel food video transcript:
Time for another food video here in Mostar. I believe this is our third and we're on a role. We are. We're going to keep going. There are so many great restaurants and so much food to try.
Okay, so today we are eating at Ćevabdžinica Tima-Irma and it is one of the top rated restaurants here in Mostar so I'm pretty excited and they specialize in something Sam has been wanting to have for a while now. The Ćevapi. The ćevapčići. Right here. We've ordered that and then we also ordered a mixed meat platter for one. I have a feeling it is going to be enough meat for the two of us actually.
I got the traditional mixed meat for one with a mixed salad, cheese, sauce, cream cheese, traditional bread and it doesn't list the meats individually but woah ho ho we've got the meat sausage. I believe it is um veal and beef if I read that right. Is that the cevapi?
I believe this is the is this veal or is it tenderloin? I've seen this elsewhere and it kind of looks like a patty.
I should be using the sauces. They came with so many sauces. Haha. We've got mustard and this looks like it could be spicy.
With some cheese.
Everything is so good. That just looks so good. And the grilled vegetables. I have zucchini. I have onions. And I have bread. Look at that. It almost oh no that is chicken. What am I talking about.
I got a beer. So this is called Mostarsko Pivo.
Ćevapi. So these are grilled meat Bosnian sausages. They can be lamb and beef. Yeah, mixture. It is a mixture of lamb and beef. Yeah. And look at that. They've just stuffed this pita. Let's count. Nine of these bad boys in there. Woah. Yeah. Woah. And it comes with some onions, some chopped onions, some of that spicy sauce. It looks wonderful looking pita.
Price point. So that came to 33 in the local currency which was 19 US dollars and we left a tip because we always do and on the way out they gave Sam a little beer to take home and a postcard. They are so sweet. And wasn't that just like a wonderful meal? It was amazing. In every way. So much food, such good quality and I think that maybe one of my new favorite place now in Mostar. Highly recommend you guys go there.
