My Favorite Place in Vietnam: Tam Coc // Ninh Binh, Vietnam
After four straight days of non-stop travel, I arrived at my final destination before Hanoi: Tam Coc. This area near Ninh Binh, Vietnam is just stunning!
Imagine the famous Ha Long Bay with its tall, narrow limestone peaks jutting out of the water, but instead of water, there were lush green rice fields. Also, less tourists... That's Tam Coc!

I arrived in Ninh Binh after spending the night in a sleeper car on a train from Dong Hoi. I wasn't sure if I'd find a place to store my bag, but immediately I saw signs to a place that would take them and rent me a bike. From there, I rode to Tam Coc and found myself surrounded by an emerald dream. The landscape was absolutely stunning!
I made my way to Bich Dong Pagoda, the home of three historic temples built into a mountain. Then, I biked along the river to watch the tourists who rented boats float through the countryside. I took a break from bike riding to at Thai Vi Temple, a isolated, quiet retreat in the middle of a valley. And then I climbed up the most stunning view of Tam Coc at Hang Mua, where I got to take in all the the gorgeousness of this beautiful place.

I had an amazing time in Tam Coc, Ninh Binh. It is arguably one of the most beautiful places in Vietnam. We started off visiting the ancient capital, Hoa Lu, moving on to the spectacular Mua Caves. Then going on an epic bamboo boat ride before capping off the day with a short bicycle ride through the stunning mountains.

Why Ninh Binh (Vietnam) should be on the TOP of your travel bucket list
We decided to skip busy Ha Long Bay to explore Ninh Binh instead which has been described as Ha Long Bay on land. We have to say we have zero regrets. Ninh Binh turned out to be one of the most memorable parts of our Vietnam trip.
We start this vlog off with a tour of our accommodation. Located right at the bottom of the Mua Caves we stayed at Hang Mua Ecolodge.
Hang Mua Ecolodge
Address: Khê Hạ, Ninh Xuân, Ninh Xuân, Hoa Lư, Ninh Bình 430000, Vietnam
With a tranquil view of the limestone caves to one side and rice fields on the other it made for an excellent accommodation in Ninh Binh for 5 days.
Once we were settled in it was time to climb the peak of the Hang Mua mountain where we could get a beautiful view of the surrounding area.
The next day we were picked up by our Ninh Binh private tour operator - Tommy’s Travel Service. Tommy is a Ninh Binh local unlike many of the other Ninh Binh tour operators and he organized an awesome schedule for us. If you're planning a visit to Ninh Binh Vietnam, we highly recommend Tommy's Travel Service. He's a real nice guy too!
Firstly we visited Trang An for a boat tour. This is also the former set for the Skull Island scenes from the King Kong Movie (which have since been removed, so we were lucky to have seen it). We were rowed through various caves and canals and saw amazing scenery unique to Ninh Binh. From the surrounding limestone caves to the complex water systems that ran between, we left with the most wonderful impression of Ninh Binh.
Ecotourism Trang An Boat Tour
Address: Tràng An, Ninh Xuân, Hoa Lư, Ninh Bình 431995, Vietnam
Hours: Monday - Sunday 7AM–4PM
Following the tour of Trang An we head over to visit two tombs of former emperors of Hue followed by lunch then Phat Diem Cathedral which is a unique cathedral that has a mixture of both Vietnamese and Gothic French architecture.
Phat Diem
Address: TT. Phát Diệm, Kim Sơn District, Ninh Bình Province 430000, Vietnam

EXPLORING VIETNAM: Trang An, Ninh Binh, Tam Coc, Hang Mua | Travel Vlog
This was the scariest (and one of the best things I've ever done). Exploring Trang An grottoes and travelling around Ninh Binh including climbing up to Tam Coc to Hang Mua peak! I was also followed by a family of mountain goats - turns out I was the pigeon in this case.

EXPLORING VIETNAM: HOA LU, MUA CAVE, TAM COC (NINH BINH) - DAY TRIP 2019
???? Continuing the series EXPLORING VIETNAM, this time i choose to travel HOA LU, MUA CAVE and TAM COC (boat trip) in Ninh Binh province. It has many great other tourist attractions such as Trang An, Bai Dinh pagoda, ... but maybe I will travel next time.
???? Hoa Lu was the ancient capital of Vietnam in the past. There has many places to worship the King.
???? Mua Cave (Dancing cave) is really great and has amazing view. I have to climb up 1000 steps in total, therefore visiting here in winter is a good choice.
???? Boat trip to Tam Coc (it means 3 caves) is also a new experience to me. The panorama view, the weather, people is nice.
???? Ninh Binh is a recomendation place that you should visit when reaching Hanoi.

VietCamLao Chapter 6 - Vietnam: What to do in Ninh Binh Area and Tam Coc (Part 1)
Even if Ninh Binh seems to be quite close to Ha Long Bay and Hanoi, be ready to spend at least half a day getting there. Chaos on the roads and dozens of inexplicable bus stops converts two hour trip into six hours journey.
Finally Ninh Binh. The city itself doesn’t have anything remarkable but surrounding areas are definitely worth of visiting: Hoa Lu Ancient Capital, Bai Dinh Temple, Bich Dong Pagoda, Phat Diem Cathedral just to mention a few.
Because of the variety of highlights in the area we decided to stay a bit longer.
Most of the tourists have their base while exploring surrounding areas in village Tam Coc. We spent our first night there doing workouts and eating local specialty: grilled duck, in company of some local travelers from Saigon.
Our first stop was Hoa Lu Ancient Citadel; capital of Vietnam till 11th century. Even if from citadel remained very little, it is still a nice walk through temples and royal tombs.
Road from Hoa Lu Ancient Capital with its steep milestone mountains brought us to Trang An boat tours. Surprisingly well organized boat tour that will help you experience vast system of the underground canals and caves. We saw a lot of caves and navigated on a lot of boats but this one, we should admit, was quite remarkable. The trip will take around 3 hours with several stops to enjoy surroundings. To add some adrenaline you can always help your guide with paddling!
If you wanna enjoy 360 view on surrounding areas and don’t mind climbing over 500 steps, then Hang Múa view point is the right place for you! It’s a bit pricey to get there, but absolutely worth it!
At the end of the day we ended up at Thai Vi Temple, where we have some chat with a monk.
One of the biggest and most remarkable attractions in the area is Bai Dinh Pagoda Temple. This complex consists of old and new parts, that was built not even 10 years ago. Be ready to walk a lot cause the complex is enormous. Strangely for us, there was no entrance fee and just small charge for a lift to the main gate.
After long and tiring exploration of the Bai Dinh Complex we were happy to hit the road again. This time we were going for real adventure in Cuc Phuong National Park. The plan was to stay there for the night, but we didn’t know anything about our overnight accommodation. Talking about park: it’s the oldest in Vietnam and well maintained. On the way from headquarter, where rangers gave us some information about the park, we stoped at the Prehistoric Man cave, before coming to the visitors center, where we were going to celebrate Maksym’s Birthday! What an experience for contemporary person to stay one night with no electricity, hot water and mobile connection. Basically back to the roots!
And what can be better way to celebrate someone’s birthday!?!

Ninh Binh Tam Coc -- Our FAVORITE Place in Vietnam! // Travelling Full Time
NINH BINH || TAM COC || TRANG AN || MUA CAVES || BAI DINH PAGODA || BOAT TOUR || BICH DONG PAGODA
This is the BEST place in Vietnam!
We arrived in the middle of the night after a long bus ride from Ha Long Bay (check out our Ha long Bay vlog if you haven't yet).
It was dark and quiet...we knew we were in a small farming village. We went to bed, and the next morning we woke up with views of the rice fields and the mountains surrounding us. It was January, so the rice fields were brown but it didn't take away from the beauty.
After breakfast, we grabbed a scooter and went to Mua Caves, Trang An Boat Tour, and Bai Dinh Pagoda. This was the highlight of our trip in Vietnam. All 3 of these places were incredible in their own way.
Although a day trip from Hanoi is do-able, we recommend staying for at least 2 nights to truly enjoy this place. It felt like we stepped back in time...we were in a fairy tale. We also recommend going to Bich Dong Pagoda if you have the time.
We stayed at Tam Coc Riverside Homestay, and had a wonderful time.

Ninh Binh, Vietnam (Tam Coc) | HALONG BAY ON LAND - One Day Trip from Hanoi | Life On Wheel
So we did a mistake.. From Phong Nha, we directly travelled to Hanoi. We could have stayed at Ninh Binh for a day or two to make the experience greater. But anyway we didn't enjoy any less with this tour. We covered the largest pagoda in Vietnam, four water caves which were beautiful, and the king kong island. It really had been a great experience. If you ask us, it is a must visit place. Enjoy the halong bay on land (Ninh binh is called halong bay on land because of similarities in landscape) and feel refreshed. And definitely eat at the Long restaurant. The buffet there was the best.
Watch the full video of Ninh Binh, Vietnam and get idea of our one day trip from Hanoi. If you are short in time, this One day tour from Hanoi to Ninh Binh will be the best option for you to get the taste of the place without spending more than a day.

Day 3 - Tam Coc boat tour (Ninh Binh)
We spent two days in Ninh Bing Vietnam. There are two boat tours that we know of one was Trang An and the other Tam coc. Trang An is where they shot parts of the movie “Skull Island” so we missed out on seeing the exact scenes from the movie but Tam Coc still looked out at those same mountains from the movie.

Viewpoint Over Tam Coc River valley, Ninh Binh
We had a boat ride at Tam Coc Ngo Dong River, visited Bich Dong Pagoda and a great climb to the top of Lying Dragon Mountain after visiting Tiger Cave and Mua cave.
It is great viewpoint over Tam Coc valley and Ngo Dong river where tourists take their boat ride. It is a 30 minute climb, stunning view over the rice paddies and villages with lot of limestone mountain landscape, a lying dragon on the top of the mountain where you can have the best view over the valley. it will be wonderful if you are there in between June and July when rice paddies at the grain season all along the river.
Hang Mua or Mua Cave at the roof of the mountain on the right is a interesting place to discover.
From Tam Coc tourist areas, you can go there by a 20 minute bicycle after this you can continue biking to nearby Trang An river and Hoa Lu ancient capital. This place is called Halong Bay onland for its special rock formation.

Vietnam Trip - Ninh Binh - Tam Coc
3 jours authentiques vélo, barque, balades, autour de Tam Coc, baie d’Halong Terrestre... Ninh Binh.

TAM COC River | Ninh Binh | Vietnam | 2018 |
Went on a day trip to Ninh Binh Province small group tour.
Included a row boat ride down the river with the locals, the river was a dead end with market boats at the end then turned back around.
This area was called Tam Coc within Ninh Binh Province.
Ninh Binh Province they call it Ha Long Bay on land which makes sense though..
It's about 1.5-2 hour drive from Hanoi where we stayed but we had a tourist stop at some tourist souvenir shop.
Definitely a place to go if you're going to Hanoi or in that area.
Quite a few things to do in Ninh Binh more videos to come.
