Ketchikan Alaska Settlers Cove Rainforest Tour
This video showcases the lush rainforest of the Settlers Cove State Park located at one end of the main road in Ketchikan, Alaska. Most if not all tour buses miss this gem of a destination so it ought not to be crowded when you visit...and it's well worth the visit. As you walk through the rainforest paths it feels like some sort of mystical creature like a troll, elf or hobbit will be poking its head around a tree at any moment. Everything is lush and green, which I suppose is not surprising considering that Ketchikan is evidently the rainiest place in Alaska. The beach area of the park is supposed to be a great place to spot bald eagles, although we didn't see any here during our visit. As you can see from the video, the trees in this Alaskan rainforest are massive, with some probably as wide as a smart car. If you like this Ketchikan Alaska Settlers Cove Rainforest Tour video then make sure to give it a thumbs up!

Ketchikan, Alaska | CruiseOne
This coastal Alaska town is charming, rustic and surprisingly thin.
Yes, you read that last one right. Ketchikan stretches for 31 miles along the shoreline of the Inside Passage, but the community is never more than 10 blocks wide. That makes the topography of this small city long and very narrow.
Back-dropped by heavily forested mountains, many homes and businesses here are actually built on silts out over the water. And if you’re cruising north, Ketchikan will likely be the first city you reach.
After disembarking, stroll along the historic Creek Street – a boardwalk lined with quaint shops and compelling views. When it’s time to dine, seek out some of the finest seafood restaurants in town: the halibut, salmon and crab here are amazing.
Delve into native culture at the Totem Heritage Center or learn more about the Alaska wilderness at the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center. Then head just 10-15 minutes outside of town to explore the pristine outdoors – including some great spots to see bears. This video will tell you more about shore excursions in Ketchikan.

Ketchikan Misty Fjords Floatplane Flightseeing with Country & Soul

NTSB: Passengers Apparently Saw Danger Before Pilot Crash-Landed In Alaska
WASHINGTON -- A report released Wednesday by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) tells of the harrowing moments before a sightseeing plane crashed in Alaska last week. Passengers apparently saw the looming danger before the pilot.
All 11 people on board the plane that crashed into the side of a mountain were rescued in a daring operation. Investigators now say moments before the July 10 crash, one passenger texted another to ask the pilot to land.
A passenger sitting next to the pilot told the NTSB he was uncomfortable with the worsening weather conditions shortly before he saw what the pilot missed: A large mountain loom directly in front of the airplane.
As visibility went to zero, 72-year-old pilot Mike Hudgins told NTSB investigators he tried to turn around, but he became disoriented thinking he saw a body of water, according to the NTSB's preliminary report. The plane was equipped with floats and thus could have landed.
Instead, the plane crashed.
The president of Taquan Air, the company that operated the flightseeing tour, issued a statement in response to the NTSB report saying the company continues to cooperate with the investigation.
Taquan Air received the NTSB preliminary report earlier today. We continue to cooperate with the investigation to better understand how the incident occurred, and to ensure an accident like this doesn't happen again, CEO Brien Salazar said. Our commitment to safety is unparalleled and reflected in our dedication to continual pilot training, protocols that exceed FAA standards, and a track record of employing experienced, well-trained pilots. We remain grateful for the lack of fatalities, and want to reiterate our gratitude to the first responders and professionals with the Coast Guard, State Troopers, Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad, Guardian flight, Temsco Helicopters, among dozens of others in the community.
Salazar added: The preliminary report reiterates the need for the FAA to implement ways to provide effective terrain awareness and warning system protections while mitigating nuisance alerts for planes operating under visual flight rules. This issue is important to us, and we are dedicated to working with the FAA and other operators to address it.
Last week, CBS News spoke with the Coast Guard crew that rescued the passengers.
I was on the left side of the aircraft and, back where I could, I couldn't see anything out my side, rescue swimmer Tony Puglia said. It was just cloud, so, yeah, the visibility was horrible.
The report says Hudgins tried to avoid the mountain, but reacted too late. Salazar said that Hudgins has been removed from flight status since the incident.
[He] is not eligible to fly for Taquan at this time, Salazar said. This follows our company protocols and there is no existing timeline for reinstating his status.
The NTSB investigation is ongoing.

SUMMARY
=======
Taquan Air is the operating name for Venture Travel, LLC, an American regional airline headquartered in Ketchikan, a city in the southeastern portion of the U.S. state of Alaska. It operates domestic scheduled passenger and charter services. Its base is Ketchikan Harbor Seaplane Base, which shares the same harbor and airspace as Ketchikan International Airport. As per the United States Department of Transportation in a report dated August 2, 2010, Taquan Air is a U.S. Certificated Air Carrier, and is 1 of 125 such carriers in the US.Taquan Air's heyday was in 1997 when they were the largest floatplane company in the world and the second largest air commuter service in Alaska, carrying 243,000 passengers that year. In a continuing effort to grow, they sought FAR part 121 certification, allowing them to carry more than nine passengers on a flight. They achieved certification and began flights in 1998, but the costs of the new venture and economic factors led to the sale of assets and layoffs in 1999. New ownership in 2000 kept the company name alive, and Taquan remains known for their floatplanes.
Taquan Air's flight schedule provides for the delivery of US Mail, and includes service to the fourth-largest island in the US, Prince of Wales Island; and the easternmost town in Alaska, Hyder. An accident in 2007 associated with a raincloud has led to the installation of weather cameras throughout Alaska. Taquan Air, along with other Ketchikan flight services, provides flightseeing tours over pristine Misty Fjords National Monument, and bear viewings within the Earth's largest remaining temperate rainforest, Tongass National Forest.
