Tarutao National Park (Thai: อุทยานแห่งชาติตะรุเตา) consists of 51 islands in the Strait of Malacca, off the coast of Satun Province of southern Thailand. The Tarutao National Park consists of two island groups: Tarutao (Thai: หมู่เกาะตะรุเตา, Thai pronunciation: [mùː kɔ̀ʔ tàʔ.rúʔ.taw] or [ta.ru.taw]) and Adang-Rawi (Thai: หมู่เกาะอาดัง-ราวี, Thai pronunciation: [mùː kɔ̀ʔ ʔaːdaŋ raːwiː]), which are scattered from 20 to 70 kilometres' distance from the south-westernmost point of mainland Thailand. The park covers an area of 1,490 square kilometres (1,260 ocean, 230 island). The southernmost end of the park lies on the border with Malaysia. Tarutao became Thailand's second marine national park on 19 April 1974. The coastal Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park had been designated in 1966.
The name tarutao is a Thai corruption of its original Malay name, pulau tertua, old, mysterious, and primitive island.
Ko Tarutao was the setting for Survivor: Thailand, the 2002 season for the U.S. reality television series, Survivor.

Son Bay (Ao Son) is the only bay on the west side of Tarutao National Park and is known as a place where turtles come to lay their eggs. Its longest beach is about 200 metres. There is a canal dividing the private beach from the public beach.
Luu Doo Waterfall on Son Bay is the only waterfall in Tarutao National Park. Underwater it is full of rock formations. Luu Doo Waterfall is three kilometres from Tarutao National Park.
Pantaemaraka Gulf has many pine trees and a clean white beach. Pantaemaraka Gulf is becoming a popular tourist attraction. Facilities in Pantaemaraka gulf are tents, home stay, camping, and house boating.
Crocodile Cave is 300 metres deep. Tourists going to Crocodile Cave must go by long-tail boat (15 minutes) from Pantaemaraka Gulf and on the way to Crocodile Cave they can see mangrove forest.

Koh Lipe @ Tarutao National Marine Park ( DRONE )
Koh Lipe is located 60 km from the Thai Mainland, the closest pier is in Pak Bara. It is the most Southern island in Thailand and on a clear day you can see Langkawi Island in Malaysia, which is just 30 km away.
The island is part of the Adang Archipelago, a cluster of about 10 uninhabited islands (Koh Lipe being the exception). Day trips to the surrounding islands are popular and highly recommend as they are the best way to explore the marine park.
This cluster of islands is part of the much larger Tarutao National Marine Park, a nature reserve established in 1974 as Thailand’s second National Park. It consists of about 50 islands and covers 1500 km².
Everything you need for the perfect holiday!
Koh Lipe’s white sandy beaches are perfect for relaxing and you can snorkel right of all them. Several top dive sites are close by for the more adventurous underwater explorers. There are plenty of other things to do too!
You can sleep in anything from simple bamboo huts to plush luxury resorts with a swimming pool. There is a great variety of restaurants on the island ranging from tasty Thai street food to delicious international cuisine. Several coffee shops and bars are there to keep you caffeinated and hydrated.
When to go?
Koh Lipe has seen a large increase in visitors in the last decade and has now become an all year destination. The island can be reached year around from Pak Bara. In high season boats also connect to Langkawi, Koh Lanta, Koh Phi Phi, Phuket and several small islands in the Andaman Sea.
Weekends tend to be more busy all year on Koh Lipe as Thai and Malaysian tourists flock to the island for a weekend break. Transport and hotel reservations are highly recommended on friday, saturday and sunday, especially when there is a national holiday.
High season is from November until early May: reservations for transport and hotels is recommended.
Peak season is around 15 December until the end of February: most rooms and transport tickets are fully booked months in advance and arriving on Koh Lipe without a reservation can be a very stressful experience.
Low season, or green season as the locals call it, is from May to October. There are a lot less tourists and it isn't difficult to find a quiet spot on the beach. Although the island is now open all year with 2 boats running to and from Pak Bara every day, some of the hotels and other businesses still close down. It's a great time to go if you enjoy quiet time on the beach and there a great hotel deals to be had.

Jim checks in from Varin II, the bamboo hut resort on the east facing shore of Koh Lipe in the south Andaman Sea, withing the Tarutao National Marine Park. Simple accommodations, great view, awesome beach and snorkeling, and a 10 minute long tail ride to Koh Adang... but that's another story.
Koh Lipe: the Maldives of Thailand
Koh Lipe is the southernmost island in Thailand, located in the Andaman sea, 60Km from the Thai mainland and only 30Km from Langkawi, Malaysia. It’s part of the Adang Archipelago, a group of more than fifty islands, and on the border of the Tarutao National Marine Park, one of the first parks created in Thailand in 1974.
Once you arrive in Koh Lipe, you will easily understand why it’s called the Maldives of Thailand. The unbelievably turquoise crystalline water that is so characteristic of the Maldives, will welcome and mesmerize you.
Koh Lipe is covered with lush vegetation, has three beaches (Pattaya, Sunset and Sunrise), a main street called “Walking Street.” and is relatively small (2Km long and 1 km wide). To move around it is very easy and it takes no more than 15-25min to walk from one beach to another.

Lipe island (เกาะหลีเป๊ะ) is a part of Tarutao Marine National Park (อุทยานแห่งชาติหมู่เกาะตะรุเตา). It is located in the Andaman Sea, around 40 kilometers from the town of Satun province or 22 kilometers off the shore from the Pak Bara Pier.
The park borders the Muko Phetra National Park on the north and Malaysia sea border in the south. The park covers an area of about 1,490 square kilometers including islands and sea. Of the total 51 islands, there are seven large islands; Koh Tarutao, Koh Adang, Koh Rawi, Koh Lipe, Koh Klang, Koh Batuang, and Koh Bitsi. These islands have been formed into two major groups; namely, Muko Tarutao and Muko Adang–Rawi.
Ko Lipe is considered to be the most important island of the Adang group, as it has the largest permanent settlement, and is considered the hub for transportation between the other islands and to and from the mainland. About 800 people live on Ko Lipe year round. It is most famous for the diving and snorkelling that is available in the surrounding waters, the beautiful beaches, great weather and its laid back atmosphere.

This tiny island jewel is located in Satun Province. Hardly any foreign tourist make their way this far south. Main tourism in this area revolves within community base visitors from within the province or nearby. We have experienced the most beautiful island and its people here. The park rangers are the happiest we have met. It seem like everyday of work is just another day out to work and enjoy the beauty of Koh Lidee. Ecologically, Koh Lidee is one of the most complete we have seen. Mangroves, Dicterocrap forests, Limestone karsts, Sandstone flats, Sea grass beds, Coral reef flats are all found in this tiny island.
