Eat Through Southeast Asia in Minnesota || Eat Seeker
Minnesota may have decent sized Vietnamese population, but Chef Christina Nguyen still felt there were flavors that were missing when she would go out to eat. After a three month trip the Southeast Asia, Christina felt inspired to play with flavors like stinky fish and shrimp pastes, fresh herbs, and coconut. Now at her restaurant Hai Hai, she serves dishes from both her childhood and travels like water fern cakes she used to eat in her church basement, her grandfather’s favorite turmeric & dill fish, and Balinese chicken thighs inspired by a pig roast in Bali.

Great Food!
Mickey’s Diner was designed to resemble the railroad dining cars of the period. It is unique in that it is one of the first diners to be built in the Art Deco style. Mickey’s Dining Car was manufactured in New Jersey and shipped by rail on a flat bed to its present location.
Mickey's Diner has been featured on the Food Network series Unwrapped, Roker on the Road, Rachel Rays' Tasty Travels, and Alton Browns' Feasting on Asphalt. Mickey's has appeared in The Smithsonian, National Geographic, Sports Illustrated, Easy Rider, Playboy and Elle magazines. Mickey's Dining Car has been replicated as a collectible by Department 56, The Danbury Mint and Saks Fifth Avenue. The Mighty Ducks I, II, III, Jingle All the Way and A Prairie Home Companion movies contain scenes that were shot on location at Mickey's.
Mickey’s Diner was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 and was one of the first diners to be a registered historic place. The designation helped preserve the diner during urban re-development with in the city of St. Paul.
Mickey’s Dining car has been operating 24 hours a day 365 days a year for nearly 70 years. Spanning three generations the diner has remained family owned and operated.

Holy Land Deli Gathers Everyone Around the Table
Majdi Wadi's office above Holy Land deli and restaurant in Northeast Minneapolis is a bustling hub of activity, as a restaurant, grocery store, hummus factory, and a smattering of satellite micro-restaurant locations all fall under Holy Land Brand, Inc.'s purview. Opened in 1987 by Wajdi Wadi, Majdi's brother, Holy Land functions as an extension of the Wadi family's love of food and an invitation to know more about Muslims and Arabs in the Middle East. From that small start, Holy Land expanded their operations and helped revitalize a neighborhood in the process.

Welcome to the Twin Cities - Minneapolis/Saint Paul Area - Lennar
Play Outside in Any Season
There’s no better way to get acquainted with an area than to get outside, so hike, bike, paddle, swim or stroll in what Forbes calls the nation’s healthiest cities. With 90,000 miles of shoreline and 929 metro area lakes, get in touch with nature in an urban environment, a concept that’s at the heart of Minneapolis Saint Paul’s outdoor scene.
Welcome!
One-of-a-kind attractions. Tax-free shopping. Nationally praised dining. World-class theater. Museums galore. Green space. In Minneapolis Saint Paul, you get two cities worth for the price of one.
With 30 theater venues, more than 10 dance companies, 30 classical music groups and nearly 60 museums, it’s no wonder we’ve been called the Midwest’s cultural capital. And it’s not just numbers that impress, but what’s inside. Find paintings by van Gogh at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, catch a Broadway show at the Orpheum Theatre, or enjoy the melodic sounds played at the newly renovated Orchestra Hall.
With no sales tax on clothes and shoes, the savings here are unbeatable—and there is no shortage of places to do so. Not only do we have Mall of America and its 520 stores, but we are also home to the nation’s first enclosed mall, Southdale, and shopping neighborhoods like 50th and France and Saint Paul’s Grand Avenue.
It’s just plain fun here; no matter what season you visit. Attend the Minnesota State Fair, Saint Paul Winter Carnival or one of our many other festivals. Explore the Chain of Lakes. Bike along or snowshoe through our many miles of trails. Paddle board on the Mississippi River. Tee off at championship courses. Play pond hockey. Visit our racetracks, casinos, amusement parks, or two zoos. No matter where you go or what you do, welcome.
Dining Destination
Diners might be intimidated by the options available, but we’re happy to provide something for everyone. From street eats to first-class cuisine, check out what trendy dining options are available for the tasting.
Our culinary standards are high here, as we are home to three consecutive James Beard winners for Best Chef in the Midwest. Our chefs have been on the forefront of the sustainability movement, cooking with fresh, local ingredients and serving dishes that range from classic American to ones from Thailand, Germany, Spain and beyond.
Attractions

TASTING THE TOWNS
With streets lines with innovative and eclectic restaurants, Minneapolis Saint Paul owns a spot on the national food scene. We're serving up dishes for every appetite thanks to award-winning chefs and creative restauranteurs who make the area's dining scene delicious.
STYLE IN THE CITIES
Find what you're looking for and more! Save with no sales tax on clothing and shoes at malls big and small as well as boutique shops and neighborhood stores. You're sure to find unexpected treasures and gifts that reflect the culture of the area.
IN THE SPOTLIGHT
See why the theater, dance and music groups around Minneapolis Saint Paul deserve an encore, then explore the exciting exhibits and stunning architecture of local museums. We have more theater seats per capita than anywhere outside of New York City and nearly 60 museums.
THREE CHEERS FOR THE HOME TEAM
We've got spirit, thanks to the six professional teams that call the metro home. Whether summer or winter, outdoors or indoors, there's a sport for every season and fan.
Best Sushi in Minnesota?!?!
We remember going to a pop-up Union Kitchen & Gohan had at Cook, St. Paul, and ordering Chef Kou’s blackened tuna….we were spellbound! It’s been a long time since that pop-up and Chef Kou and his wife Christi opened up this mobile sushi bar which also functions as a sit down restaurant/sushi bar! They offer dishes from their menu and even do omakase (a Japanese tradition of letting a chef choose your order)! They are available to cater for your next event or work functioning! You can have lunch with Gohan in downtown Minneapolis, but remember they’re a mobile sushi bar, so make sure to keep up with all their social media to see where they are!

Here’s what we ordered!
Omakase (CP, Chef’s Price):
Pieces of nigiri and hosomaki all made to order with fresh tender fish and smooth warm-perfectly cooked rice! If you aren’t too sure what you want, let Kou make the decisions for you, you won’t regret it!
Blackened Salmon Rice Bowl ($15):
Big cuts of salmon seared with a torch to give it a smokey taste, resting on top of sushi rice. The salmon was velvety and had a creamy texture each bite you took. You can’t go wrong with salmon, and this is no exception!
7 Spiced Yellowtail Rice Bowl ($15):
Served in a bowl similar to the Blackened Salmon dish, but this one had a few additions; it’s seasoned with Chef Kou’s special seasoning that gave it a nice salty/sour note, there was heat from the slices of jalapeños, and you can refresh your palate with ginger and the side of pickled daikon and cucumbers.
Everything was exceptional and we can’t wait to fulfill our sushi cravings with Gohan Sushi again. We’re sure you all will have an awesome time and so will your stomachs!
