New Orleans Food Tour | Bring on the Cajun Food!
We spent our Christmas and the few days prior in New Orleans. As former residents of the southern US, we were very excited to eat our way through the city and get true southern comfort food that we can't always find on the west coast!
From Cajun, to Creole, to French, the food scene in New Orleans is booming. Some restaurants stick to their tried and true style, while others offer plates that are a hybrid of all three.
Some highlights include:
The Governor - where we devour chicken and waffles for breakfast.
Johnny's Po Boys - where we eat one of the best fried chicken po boys of our lives.
The Praline Connection - where we tried yet another unique and delicious style of gumbo.
Cafe Beignet - where we wait on line for a long time, but it sure is worth it!
Our food tour of New Orleans was filled with so many delicious foods and beautiful restaurants. Our only regret is that we couldn't visit more! New Orleans has such unique cuisine that even a dish like gumbo varied from restaurant to restaurant.
If you enjoyed our food tour (and we hope you did), we have other food tour videos available to watch!

Eating through New Orleans
Me eating my way through New Orleans, because I love food.
Here are the restaurants I ate at, in order of appearance:
1. Imperial Woodpecker Sno-balls:
2. Lousiana Pizza Kitchen:
They have an award-winning Caesar Salad and I can vouch that it honestly was so good. It's a little pricey for a salad, but I'd still order it if I could go there again. The pizzas are share-able: two people could probably finish a pizza together.
3. Cafe du Monde:
Beignets, beignets, beignets. That's all they have there, along with some drinks. They only accept cash, so just be prepared with cash in your wallets!
4. Felix's Oyster Bar:
If there's anything you have to eat here, it's their oysters. I had their Chargrilled Oysters and it was such a treat. I loved it so much I went there twice over my five-day trip to get my oyster fix.
5. Gracious bakery + cafe:
6. The Rum House:
Right on Magazine Street, this restaurant is well known for it's Tacos. The Rum House has Taco Tuesdays, where tacos are only $2, and they are so DELISH. I would reccomend eating here if you're along Magazine St, it really is such a nice place to have a meal.
7. Cane's Chicken Fingers
Just some junk food I tried. Not too bad with it's chicken fingers, I'd say it's nothing too interesting
8. Southern CandyMakers :
Nothing tastes better than freshly made pralines. An amazing sweet treat for anyone with a sweet tooth. I thoroughly enjoyed this store: from walking in to the smell of caramel and baked goodies to the sampling of pralines before making my purchase. I'd say get your praline fix here (I'd reccomend the original and the coconut, they werr my favourite!)
9. Willie Mae's Scotch House:
They claim to have the best fried chicken in the United States, and I wouldn't be surprised if they were. Best fried chicken I've had in my entire life, hands down. I loved this so much and I wish I could just have this once more.. it was just that good. I highly reccomend this. It's a little out of the tourist area but it's so worth travelling there.
10. Gumbo and fried seafood
I can't remember where exactly I had this meal, but I'd say it was good. Gumbo is a definite must-try in New Orleans, and I'm glad I did before I left NOLA. You can have it in almost any restaurant in the French Quarter so just pop into any restaurant and be sure to add that to your order.
11. Palace Cafe:
I went to this restaurant just for its Banana Foster, and it d

Great Food At The Court Of Two Sisters Restaurant In New Orleans French Quarter - Best Food In NOLA.
When we were planning our trip to the French Quarter in New Orleans, one of the must-do things on our list was to eat at the Court Of Two Sisters restaurant. That turned out to be the very first thing we did when we got there - and it was incredible! The Court Of Two Sisters has a rich history, dating back to 1832, when it was built as the residence of the president of the Bank Of New Orleans. It was acquired in 1886 by the Camors family, and the two sisters, Emma and Bertha, began to operate, The Shop Of The Two Sisters, store out of this building. Today, it is a beautiful property and a great restaurant located at 613 Royal Street, with an entrance also located off of Bourbon Street.
There are dining spaces indoors and out, and we chose to eat in the open-air Courtyard. This is a great choice in good weather, as the Courtyard is very beautiful. The entire outdoor area is covered by a canopy of leaves from a giant Wisteria Tree that is over 180 years old! The area is lit at night by lights hung from the tree, making it a very nice atmosphere while you're having dinner.
And speaking of dinner...our food was amazing! It was definitely the best food we had while we were in the French Quarter. We have nothing but good things to say about the quality and taste of what we had to eat, including the desserts! Don't miss out on their creme brulee and the praline ice cream!
The Court Of Two Sisters has received many awards over the years including: Favorite Buffet and Favorite Outdoor Dining, Best Breakfast, Best Brunch By Southern Living Magazine, New Orleans Magazine Reader's Choice, and Magellan Awards Silver Choice. We think it's the best restaurant in New Orleans. So if you're wondering what to eat and where to eat in the New Orleans French Quarter, The Court Of Two Sisters should definitely be on your list. We're glad we had it on ours!

New Orleans, Louisiana Holiday: Live Entertainment, History and Authentic Louisiana Cuisine
New Orleans, Louisiana is an incredible city for those who love live music, excellent dining and cocktails, culture and something unique.
New Orleans, Louisiana: City with Heart and Soul
By Jody Sidle Short
I was 16 years old the last time I was in New Orleans – more than two decades ago. I was here for a week during Mardi Gras and remember how amazing I thought the city was. Obviously, much has changed over the years. But on my much more recent visit to the city, I discovered that the delights I felt back then still remain and may be even stronger!
Drinks and Dishes
Even at the ripe old age of 16, I can recall hearing tales of the famous New Orleans signature drink, the “Hurricane.” This time around, though, I was introduced to more sophisticated drinks served by mixologists at places such as Sobou. Here they serve drinks like the Sazarac (Rye, brandy, bitters, cane syrup, absinthe/herbsaint rinse, lemon twist), the Michael Collins (Powers Irish whiskey, lavender syrup, fizzy lemonade) and the Cannonball (jasmine tea-infused rum, coconut, lime, Fernet), and boy are they good!
It’s really hard to find a bad place to eat in New Orleans because all dishes are incredible, but one particular area that comes to mind from this trip is Royal Street, where you can find authentic Creole and Cajun dishes that are a treat for the taste buds.
There’s also a ton of lunch options at the French Market. Here you’ll find a European flair and more great Creole cuisine. I ate at Continental Provisions, where the brie-and-ham sandwich was unbelievable.
After my lunch, I wandered through the French Market in search of desert, and I discovered the incredible Café du Monde, where I had beignets, which is sort of like a hot doughnut with powdered sugar on it – but so much better. Sitting there with my beignet and a coffee watching street performers and taking in the sights was a delightful way to spend the afternoon. I highly recommend it!
Who Wants to Shop?
I headed back to Royal Street for some more entertainment from street musicians and artists, as well as a little antique shopping. There are some wonderful, handcrafted goods and gorgeous art galleries that depict New Orleans in a beautiful and unique way, but if you are seeking more-upscale shopping, the likes of Michael Kors, Tiffany & Co. and Giorgio Armani, there is one must-visit option – The Shops at Canal Place! I couldn’t believe the amount of world-class designers that were all available at this one location, and to top that sheer delight, I found out that as an international visitor, I could get a refund on sales tax paid. Off to buy another suitcase for a few new purchases – wahoo!
A Night on the Town
After a nice bit of relaxing back at The Whitney Hotel (a National Historic Landmark Building I strongly suggest staying at), I had a bite to eat and then met some friends on Frenchmen Street to check out the various jazz bars. It was a gorgeous night, so we grabbed a beer and wandered along the street listening to the great sounds coming from each bar. If we liked the music, then we would stop in for a bit and then move on to the next one. It was a super fun night like every night here in New Orleans.
The next day I would spend time investigating more of the culture and sights of New Orleans, but today was all about indulging in the shopping, food and drinks of this amazing city, and what a fabulous day it had been!
