Algonquin Park - Serene Sights At Tea Lake Dam Picnic Area - Episode 1
#Algonquin #camping #hiking #trails
This is the first in a series of videos from a two-week camping trip to Algonquin Park during the summer of 2018.
The Tea Lake Dam Picnic Area is one of our favourite places to stop to have lunch, to read or to look for wildlife. On this day we spotted a Great Blue Heron doing yoga in a tree, several butterflies and dragonflies, as well as a few Common Mergansers.
The area has some beautiful and serene sights that require no hiking and the peaceful sounds of rushing water from the dam area are always enjoyable to sit and listen to.
In the fall I have watched dozens of Ruffed Grouse, Wild Turkey and a variety of other birds up-close.
Next Thursday will feature Whiskey Rapids Trail.

Algonquin Provincial Park Tea Lake Dam September 28 2008
Video that shows a Great Blue Heron grabbing some afternoon snacks at Tea Lake Dam. Shot this with a Samsung Digital Video Camera I had won.
Tea Lake Dam Algonquin Park visual artists by Tom Thomson
A video that I produced, shot and edited which took two years before broadcasting on TVCogeco Cable Muskoka Huntsville Ontario. The theme is what The Friends of Algonquin Park provide to visitors in a educational and information format. Many people from around the world visit Algonquin Park and the numbers total 1 million and of that 40,000 Japanese and 100,000 Germans. My goal in this video is to show the unique education programs offered such as the overnite stay at the Visitor Center. The Girl Guide group painting in water colours at Tea Lake Dam themed on Tom Thomson was a stroke of luck for me in weather and the Fall Colours of Canadian Thanksgiving Sunday. Program runs from September until May at the Visitors Center.
Tea Lake Dam Algonquin Park Tom Thomson inspired painting
Video based on people discovering Algonquin Park and the Education programs. Scenes of Oshawa Girl Guides learning water colour painting based on Artist Tom Thomson at Tea Lake Dam October 2007. copywrite given by Gordon Gibson of Solitudes.com for the Dan Gibson DVD Natural Beauty and audio CD Streams of Dreams. I shot, edited and completed this project because of my passion for Algonquin Park and all parks. The education offered is what I consider Life experiences.

Video of whirligig bugs below Tea Lake Dam
Sometimes it is the simplest things that bring us joy. I loved how watching these little guys do their thing whirling around and around transported me back in time to a being a kid. Every Spring I would be down by the Oxtongue River near the marsh, up past the height of my little rubber boots, watching and catching bugs!

Video of below Tea Lake Dam July 3,2016
On location today at the Tea Lake Dam, Oxtongue River with film producer Bob Hilscher for an interview for his upcoming trailor. The day was delightful with a gentle breeze and the most gorgeous green reflections. The water sure is lower now than on my last visit for a paint out below Tea Lake Dam during the Spring run off!
Algonquin Park - Hemlock Bluff & Bat Lake Trails - Episode 4
#Algonquin #camping #hiking #trails
Thanks for watching our fourth video in our Algonquin Park 2018 series.
In this video, we take you along on two separate trails along Highway 60, Hemlock Bluff and Bat Lake Trail. During our hikes, we saw only a few other hikers, compared to some of the shorter, more popular trails.
Hemlock Bluff Trail is 3.5 kilometres long with a spectacular view of Jack Lake from a lookout along a cliff. There are some fairly steep areas but it is well worth the effort.
Bat Lake Trail is 5 kilometres long and starts and ends with flat sections of sandy pine trees. Several steep sections can be challenging, especially if it is slippery from the rain. A beautiful meandering river falls down the hillside and along the way there are wonderful vistas. Bat Lake itself is a quiet, secluded spot that often floods the trails and boardwalks but it is peaceful if the biting insects don't get you! Don't let the water fool you though, it's quite acidic and not for drinking, fishing or swimming.
Each of Algonquin's trails is unique and enjoyable to hike depending on your physical abilities and how long you want to take. Every trail has opportunities for stopping to take breaks, whether there is a bench, a rock, or a tree root to sit on. Bring water, a snack or your lunch and enjoy the trails at Algonquin Park!
More Algonquin camping videos coming in the weeks to come!
