To the Struggle Against World Terrorism (also known as the Tear of Grief and the Tear Drop Memorial) is a 10–story sculpture by Zurab Tsereteli that was given to the United States as an official gift of the Russian government as a memorial to the victims of the September 11 attacks in 2001 (26 of whom were Russian) and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. It stands at the end of the former Military Ocean Terminal in Bayonne, New Jersey. Groundbreaking was done on September 16, 2005, in a ceremony attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, and was dedicated on September 11, 2006, in a ceremony attended by former U.S. President Bill Clinton.
Design[edit]
The sculpture is composed of a 100-foot (30 m) bronze-clad tower split with a jagged opening in the middle in which hangs a large nickel-surfaced teardrop, 40 feet (12 m) high. The eleven sides of the monument's base bear granite name plates, on which are etched the names of those who died in the September 11 attacks and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. However, like some other 9/11 memorials, the dedication was based on an outdated compilation and contains about forty people who were removed from later victim listings.
Tsereteli did not disclose the cost of the sculpture except to say that he paid for labor and materials. A lawyer for the sculptor released the cost at about $12 million. Tsereteli said metals for the sculpture were obtained From a military factory that did airplanes. In Dzerzhinsk. A secret city.

9/11 Tear Drop Memorial Sculpture located at Harbor View in Bayonne, NJ. Thank you to my father-in-law for finding this memorial sculpture- a gift from Russia and Russian Artist- by trawling on the internet. This sculpture is Simple, yet powerful; encircled by a Vietnam Memorial-like wall with the names of the deceased. Currently, the drive up to the small park takes you on a winding, off the beaten path type road earily leading you through shipyard storage and construction by-product. The juxtaposition of the unsettling drive and the peacefulness of the park, the sculpture, and the view feels, somehow, appropriate.

It was initially given to the local government of Jersey City, but was rejected. It was then relocated to its present placement in Bayonne. In August 2010 the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced it had plans to build a container facility on the location and the monument would most likely have to be moved. However, these plans have not been confirmed by the Port Authority. Robert Captain Bob Terzi, a Bayonne taxi driver started an online petition to prevent the relocation.
Reaction to the monument has been mixed. It was listed as one of the world's ugliest statues by Foreign Policy magazine, while The New Yorker said that it looked like a giant tea biscuit from a distance.Pro Arts Jersey City called it an insensitive, self-aggrandizing piece of pompousness by one of the world's blatant self-promotersReactions from the general public have described it as pretty impressive and a breathtakingly beautiful creation.
In September 2011, a 4-foot (1.2 m) section of steel from the World Trade Center was placed adjacent to the sculpture

USA: Russian and US officials gather to honour Russian sailors who died in 1877
A funeral ceremony for three fallen sailors, who died nearly 140 years ago, was held for the first time at the U.S. Naval Hospital Cemetery in Portsmouth, Virginia.
The cemetery became the final resting place for the six unknown Russian soldiers, three of whom were identified in 2013 by volunteers from the Russian Memorials project.
Gavriil Vyakhirev, Arseniy Bragin and Zakhar Lebedev, three Imperial sailors, were members of the steam frigate Svetlana, when it entered Hampton Roads at Virginia harbour, and docked at Norfolk in 1877. According to the records, Vyakhirev, Bragin and Lebedev died of disease that year.
The US-Russia Joint Commission on Prisoners of War and Missing in Action (USRJC) is working since 1992 to clarify the fates of soldiers, who went missing in action during the twentieth century.

Tear Drop 9/11 Memorial Park Russia Gift to USA NJ America by BK Bazhe
9/11 Memorial -
The monument, which features a 40 foot steel teardrop suspended within a large bronze-clad tower, is a memorial to the victims of 9/ll and the 1993 World Trade Center bombings. It is indeed a gift from the Russian people. Time cures everything, but there are things we cannot and must not forget. Standing more than 100 feet tall, To the Struggle Against World Terrorism honors victims of 9/11 and the 1993 World Trade Center bombings and serves as a symbol of solidarity in the fight against world terrorism. Created by Russian sculptor Zurab Tsereteli. Dedicated on September 11, 2006, it stands in direct view of the Statue of Liberty and the former World Trade Center.
It is located at The Peninsula at Bayonne Harbor, New Jersey. France gave us the Statue of Liberty. Now Russia has given us To the Struggle Against World Terrorism, another XXL, in-a-class-of-its-own monument. If you have not seen it, that may be because you haven't recently approached New York City by ship. For those coming in from the Atlantic, through the Narrows, the Russian gift now heaves into view well before Lady Liberty. That is intentional, according to Zurab Tsereteli, the Moscow-based sculptor who created the monument. To the Struggle Against World Terrorism stands at the end of a long, man-made peninsula in Bayonne, New Jersey, and it looks from a distance like a giant tea biscuit. As you get closer, however, you will begin to make out an immense, stainless-steel teardrop—the Tear of Grief—hanging in a jagged crack that runs down the middle of the main slab.

The Teardrop Memorial
Tear Drop Memorial
The Tear Drop Memorial was never really widely reported by the press, but it is nonetheless authentic. This gift from Russia to the United States was created and installed to honor those who died on 9/11 and was intended as a statement against terrorism. It's very impressive, lined up with the Statue of Liberty.
The tear drop has been variously known as The Tear of Grief, The Teardrop Memorial, and The Memorial at Harbor View Park, as well as by its official name: To the Struggle Against World Terrorism. This monument to the victims of 9/11 was built by Russian artist Zurab Tsereteli on the waterfront of Bayonne Harbor in New Jersey and it was publicly dedicated on September 11, 2006. In the words of Vladimir Putin, it was a gift from the Russian people.
The monument comprises a 100-foot-tall bronze tower with a jagged split down the middle and a 40-foot-long stainless steel teardrop suspended in the gap. It stands on an 11-sided slab of black marble carved with the names of every person who died in the September 11 attacks, as well as the victims of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. The brightly lit memorial is visible even at night from the Statue of Liberty, Battery Park, the Staten Island Ferry, and other locations around the Hudson River.
Although he's not well known in the United States, Zurab Tsereteli is renowned for his work in Russia, as well as for public sculptures he has erected all around the world. He reportedly spent $12 million of his own money to complete the Bayonne Harbor monument.
