Tenryu-ji Temple, Kyoto | One Minute Japan Travel Guide
For more information, access, and reviews about Tenryu-ji Temple:
Tenryu-ji Temple once contained all of the Arashiyama area. It has a garden whose view hasn’t changed in 700 years and an ink painting 9 meters in diameter titled “Unryu-zu” that is a splendid World Heritage asset.

JAPAN VLOGS - Kyoto Day 2 Ginkakuji Temple, Kiyomizudera Temple, Gion District & Shinkansen to Tokyo
Welcome to this new series of JAPAN VLOGS!!! Join me every Wednesday 5pm for a new Japan vlog. I film every day from our trip in September 2019 showing you Kyoto, Tokyo, Shinjuku, Shibuya, Mount Fuji, Tokyo Disneyland, Tokyo DisneySea. Hope you enjoy!!
It is our second day in Kyoto! We are staying at the Dormy Inn near Kyoto Station so we have breakfast at Deli Cafe at the station. Today we explore Eastern Kyoto. There is lots to do in East Kyoto. We start by getting the bus to the furthest point which is Ginkakuji Temple (aka the Silver Pavilion). We loved the walk up and the view of Kyoto from the top. Then we walk Philosopher's Path. Philosopher's Path is full of beautiful temples. We stop at Honen-in temple, Kounji (Koun-ji) Temple, Eikando (Eikan-do) Temple, Nanzenji (Nanzen-ji) temple, Chion-in Temple (chionin). We stop off at the old Aqueduct (Nanzenji Suirokaku) then walk through Maruyama Park. In Maruyama Park is the Kodaiji (kodai-ji) Temple. Then we walk through the old streets of Kyoto and find Yasaka Pagoda. We go to a Japanese Starbucks, Starbucks in Japan is so cute! Also Hard Rock Cafe Kyoto too. The main temple was Kiyomizudera. It was stunning! (Kiyomizu-dera). We walk home through the Gion District and see Gion Corner. We stumble upon our last temple Kenninji Temple (Kennin-ji) It was lovely. After a long day of temples and exploring we check out of the Dormy Inn and head back to Kyoto Station. At Kyoto station we reserve our seats for our bullet train (shinkansen) to Tokyo! We get off at Shinagawa to then change trains for Shinjuku. We check into our hotel at Shinjuku called Citadines Central Shinjuku. I give a little tour of our room in Shinjuku. I also talk about and reflect on our time at Kyoto. Hope you enjoy!! So many things to do in Kyoto!!!

Hogon-ji Temple - Shiga - 竹生島 宝厳寺
On the beautiful Lake Biwa, Japan's biggest natural lake, you will find the small island of Chikubu (Chikubu-Shima) where you will find Shiga more remote temples with Tsukubusuma-Jinja Shrine and the famous Hogon-Ji Temple (Hogonji), founded on the island by the priest Gyoki(668-749).
The Benzaiten (Sarasvati) at Hogonji Temple is known as one of the three best in Japan and among the 30th most visited location on the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage.
Also, it is said that Hogonji Temple gabled Karamon gate is the only remaining piece of Hideyoshi's Osaka-jo Castle, and it is a registered national treasure alongside the main shrine at Tsukubusuma-Jinja Shrine.

Japan Trip 2017 -Day 4 - Shinkansen, Hostels, and To-ji Temple
We leave Tokyo and head to Kyoto on the shinkansen for our tour of Japan. Hostels are something new for me and we check out what Kyoto has to offer. We end the day with a visit to To-ji temple to see the largest wooden tower in Japan.
ZOJOJI - a beautiful temple in Tokyo - 増上寺
Around Tokyo blog:
Zojoji temple is located very close to Tokyo Tower. It is a fantastic place to visit in Tokyo. Even though most of the buildings aren`t that old, it is great to visit as it provides many contrasts with the surrounding area. It`s very easy to get to and should be high on your list of places to visit in Tokyo.

A visit to Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden in Autumn
Visiting Japan in November last year I was able to see one of the symbols of autumn, the magnificent chrysanthemum, in exhibitions in several places, including the Shinjuku Gyoen, the Meiji-jingu Shrine, Asakusa Sensoji Temple in Tokyo and the Tenryuji Temple in Kyoto.
It was also the time of the Festival of Shichi-Go-San (7-5-3) where three and seven-year-old girls and three- and five-year-old boys, come to the Temple to pray for health and good fortune in life. Dressed in delightful kimonos they were possibly more interested in the Chitose ame (千歳飴?), literally thousand year candy, which they receive. This long, thin, red and white candy, given in a bag decorated with a crane and a turtle, represents long life in Japan. It is wrapped in a thin, clear, and edible rice paper film.
To learn more about how these incredible chrysanthemums are grown I recommend that you watch NHK's BEGIN Japanology Season 3 - Ep 36:

Hamarikyu Gardens, Tokyo in 4K - 浜離宮恩賜庭園 - Japan As It Truly Is
Hamarikyu Gardens is one of Tokyo's finest. Experience it like you were there, seeing the beauty that everyone else leaves out.
Hamarikyu is one of the more beautiful and popular gardens in Tokyo, yet still gets ignored by the tourist mobs enough that you can still enjoy it leisurely. Hama Rikyu has a history going back centuries, previously as an imperial detached villa, and before that a hunting ground for the Shogun. It's also the only garden you can take the Tokyo water bus to and entry into Hamarikyu is included.
Hamarikyu has a striking characteristic of being surround by many skyscrapers and high rises. The modern among the traditional is something distinctly Japanese.
Hamarikyu is also unique in that it has salt water ponds that rise and fall with the rides. The whole garden is about 250,000 sq. meters and has a lot of places to stroll. You can also take a break at the Nakajima no Ochaya teahouse with some Japanese tea for around ¥500.
Along with Hamarikyu Gardens, just 10 minutes on foot is the Kyu Shiba Rikyu Garden, which is also quite beautiful.
Get the combo ticket and see both for less money.
Hama Rikyu is about 10 minutes on foot from the JR Shimbashi Stn, or a 5 minute walk from the Shiodome subway station on the Toei Oedo Line and the Yurikamome train. It's a 35 minute ride from Asakusa on the water bus.
Hama-Rikyu is open daily 9 AM- 5 PM (last entry 4:30 PM). May be extended until 6 PM during cherry blossom season.
Entrance fee is ¥300. Combo ticket is ¥400.
Free tours in English are offered on Mondays at 11 AM from Apr 2019.
