Family Camping in Texas (Sh*t Happens)
Get our book Create amazing family video for FREE:
It was supposed to be a peaceful family camping road trip with our kids (2 years and 8 months old). We were really surprised how many things can go wrong just in one week: survived multiple severe storms and were even chased by tornado (not caught in this video), our camp was flooded, avoided massive rockfall on the road, broke car wheel badly on the highway, scary journey through flooded city...
We were lucky to not only survive all of this but we also enjoyed hiking, caving, zip line over canyon and some fun in the camp.

Abandoned Rattlesnake Long-Range Bomber Base
Pyote Air Force Base was a World War II United States Army Air Forces training airbase.
It was nicknamed Rattlesnake Bomber Base for the numerous rattlesnake dens that were uncovered during its construction.
Pyote Army Air Field was established as a B-17 Flying Fortress crew training base during World War II. Construction of the facilities, including five large hangars, shops, warehouses and living quarters, began on 5 September 1942.
Within four months of its opening, the base had become the largest bomber installation in the country. Despite morale problems caused by isolation and the shortage of off-base recreation and of dependents' housing, Pyote achieved a distinguished record in molding inexperienced individuals into effective bomber crews.
The 19th Battle Group was the first air force unit to bomb Japanese targets. It flew to Pyote directly from combat in the Pacific.
Best known of all the aircraft stored at Pyote was the B-29 Enola Gay, from which the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. Arriving at Pyote on 12 January 1952, the ownership of the aircraft was transferred to the Smithsonian Institution. The Enola Gay was taken out of storage and flown to Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland on December 2, 1953, for preservation at the National Air and Space Museum. It was the last time the Enola Gay flew. Two other notable aircraft put in storage at Pyote was the B-17D Swoose (arrived 18 January 1952 - Departed December 1953) which was the only B-17 to survive the bombing of Clark Air Base on 8 December 1941 and manage to escape from the Philippines, and the XB-42 Mixmaster, a one-of-a-kind aircraft.
In March 1963 the Air Force ordered the site to close. Operations at Pyote ceased on 1 August 1963. With the ADC facility closed, Pyote AFB was declared surplus, and turned over to the General Services Administration (GSA) for disposal.
Today, most of the base is gone. Other than the concrete runways, taxiways and ramp, virtually nothing remains that would tell the casual observer that this was once a major training center responsible for turning out highly trained flying crews (source: Wikipedia).

Midland Texas Drive Lapse with Oilfield Museum 4k
Midland Texas Drive Lapse with Oilfield Museum. Cruising around the West Texas oilfield town Midland Texas. Bonus includes a walk around of the Midland Petroleum Museum.
Midland was established in June 1881 as Midway Station, on the Texas and Pacific Railway. By 1890, it had become one of the most important cattle shipping centers in the state. Midland was changed significantly by the discovery of oil in the Permian Basin in 1923 when the Santa Rita No. 1 well began producing in Reagan County, followed shortly by the Yates Oil Field in Iraan. Soon, Midland was transformed into the administrative center of the West Texas oil fields. During the Second World War, Midland was the largest bombardier training base in the country. A second boom period began after the war, with the discovery and development of the Spraberry Trend, still ranked as the third-largest oil field in the United States by total reserves. Yet another boom period took place during the 1970s, with the high oil prices associated with the oil and energy crises of that decade. Today, the Permian Basin produces one fifth of the nation's total petroleum and natural gas
output.
