In this video we explain you how to use the Chao Phraya Express Boat. This is a really convenient transport to use in Bangkok to beat the traffic and it’s also a lot of fun. Use the river in Bangkok instead of the busy streets and beat the traffic.
There are 5 different colored boats you can take, but to not confuse you, we only recommend 2 of them. The orange boat and the blue boat.
We use the example to use the Orange Flag Boat from N13 to N3 Si Phraya to get to our office at Co van Kessel
This video is part of a web series about Bangkok and in this series we show you how to get around in Bangkok, Thailand.

Looking for an authentic and unique adventure? Co van Kessel bike tours and boat tours provides a refreshing alternative to the tired tourist experience. We do not battle the crowds at clichéd destinations promoted in guide books, but turn your attention to quaint local communities and charming excursions into the fascinating lifestyle and culture of real Thai people. Every day is different and every tour is a surprise as we focus not on destinations, but lose ourselves in the enchantment of the journey itself.
Co van Kessel, an innovative and adventurous Dutchman, pioneered bicycle tours in Bangkok more than 30 years ago. As a longtime resident and self-professed lover of Bangkok, he understood very well the picture of accelerated urban development (gridlocked traffic, concrete towers, and choking pollution) that has plagued the recent image of the city. He also had a hunch that this was not what Bangkok or Thailand was all about.
Making it his goal to re-discover Bangkok, Co spent thousands of hours on his mountain bike exploring the vast network of local streets, alleyways, footpaths and canals between the main urban thoroughfares. What he found, lurking behind the facade of modernization, were hidden worlds of peace and tranquility, a picture of “real” Thai life that has remained unchanged for countless decades; an identity of a city that is true to the Thai people, yet largely unknown to outsiders.
Whether it’s the colorful sights and smells of the local markets, the fascinating life of locals along the canals, or the surprising existence of bountiful green belts, Co discovered the essence of what makes Bangkok one of Asia’s most captivating cities. Since then, it has been his mission to share these discoveries with the rest of the world.
What we do
Our mission at Co van Kessel Bangkok Tours is to provide our guests with a singularly unique travel experience in Thailand. All our tours use Co’s extensive topographical knowledge of the greater Bangkok area as well as his keen eye for the interesting to take you where nobody else can or will.
We aim not to bore you with talk, but to immerse you in an experience where your individual fascinations emerge.
Bicycles, boats, and our feet become the tools we use to gain access to the previously inaccessible, behind-the-scenes lifestyle of the Thai. Here the roots of an ancient culture will become evident in a way you never could have imagined.

Today We’re going to the Grand Palace. actually, we’re going to the market around there to find out where is it and what is they sell. So the First market is Tha Chang market. The Chang is a Thai word that means Chang pier. The market is at the pier. if you take Chaopraya express boat, you’ll see this market easily. if not, you have to walk along from the grand palace.
There is a little market and have few shops such as clothes shop where to sell softy&dry long plants for a Tourist who wants to go to the grand palace and they also sell Thai screen T-shirt, hat, sunglasses and more. I guess that you will wonder that why you have to wear long plants to go to Grand Palace, right? Actually, They allow ONLY people who wear a formal dress or casual wears that mean NO shorts, NO strapless, NO Tank Top etc. That’s why you have to wear T-shirt with long pants or any clothes that should be polite. if you did not wear like that, you can buy them from Tha Chang market.
The Chang market seem like a little Thai souvenir market. There have all of souvenir that Tourists want to buy such as Thai elephant key chains, bag, hat, T-shirt, Tuk tsk model, handmade doll that made from rope, Thai Balm (Tiger Balm) and Thaisalts that is a popular souvenir of Chinese and Asian tourists.
Moreover, There have a famous local Optical centre. That is Tha Chang Optical centre (Tha Chang Soon Som Wen : in Thai) They can do a lens for you in 1 hour! or more than that time , it depends on you eyes sight and type of lens. But they is not an ophthalmologist if you don’t mind this condition that much, let’s try to do a new glasses there! They also can fix any kind of glasses or sunglasses and sell a rare vintage sunglasses.
Outside of the pier, there is a blank area with fews new buildings. Actually there is a big street food and souvenir markets it’s like hundreds of stalls but now there haven’t this market anymore because Polices and the Army, they cleared and renovate this area to a better shopping area. By the way, you still can visit a little shopping market at the pier.
