Street Food in Thailand - NIGHT MARKET Thai Food in Chiang Mai, Thailand!

T-shirts and caps:
One of the top things to do in Chiang Mai is walk around and eat through one of the many Chiang Mai night markets - I think Chiang Mai might be the capital of night markets in the world. There’s a night market for every day of the week and some of them stretch longer than you can see.
At night markets in Chiang Mai you’ll find a huge selection of things to buy, from clothes and antiques to even entertainment like music and Thai massage. But for food lovers, the best thing about visiting any Thai night market is the food.
On Sunday night in Chiang Mai the most popular night market is Tha Pae Walking Street (ตลาดท่าแพ) - it really is an entire street that shuts down for a couple of kilometers, and the entire street is filled with things to look at, buy, and eat. Most of the food is set up in designated area, especially in the small courtyards of temples.
In this Thai street food tour of Chiang Mai, the plan was just to walk around and see what looked good to eat.
Here’s what we ate:
Sai krok Isaan (ไส้กรอกอีสาน), Sai ua (ไส้อั่ว) - This impressive cart was filled with different varieties of Thai sausage, both Isaan style sausage, and Northern Thai herb sausage.
Total price - 30 THB ($0.91)
Pork meatballs (ลูกชิ้นหมู) - I’m usually not a huge fan, but these 100% pork meatballs were pretty tasty.
Price - 40 THB ($1.21)
Pork ham (หมูยอ) - After meeting up with my friends Tom, Joel, and JJ, they had already been snacking on some moo yaw, a Vietnamese style ham sausage.
Grilled egg (ไข่ป่าม) - This is a unique Northern Thai food, of grilled egg.
Price - 30 THB ($0.91)
Sticky rice (ข้าวหนุกงา) - One of the Thai snacks I had never tried before were sticky rice patties. They were interesting and quite tasty.
Price - 20 THB ($0.61)
Pork ribs (ซี่โครงหมู), Crab egg custard (อ่องปู) - We saw the ribs being grilled and couldn't’t resist. They were alright, but the paddy crab egg custard was more unique.
Price - 180 THB ($5.46)
Durian (ทุเรียน) - Finally, although a little overpriced, and not season, we couldn’t resist a little nugget of durian to end this Chiang Mai night market Thai food tour.
Price - 200 THB ($6.06)
Featuring Tom from Chaseki Tea ( and Joel (

Chiang Mai Apartment Tour in Thailand
Come join us for a tour of our apartment in Chiang Mai, Thailand as we showcase our entire place at Smith Residence. We've been coming back to Chiang Mai for years now and we've always stayed at Smith Residence where we get a wonderful apartment in a great location of the old quarter of Chiang Mai just south of Chiang Mai Gate. Our one bedroom apartment in Chiang Mai is quite spacious with a big living room, comfortable dining room table (which we use as a work table) and a big bedroom featuring a king size bed along with two bathrooms. Our apartment located on the seventh floor features incredible views of Doi Suthep and the Chiang Mai airport off in the distance where we can watch planes land and take-off. I hope you enjoy this Chiang Mai apartment tour and if you have any questions please don't hesitate to share them in the comments sections below.

Chiang Mai Apartment Tour in Thailand Travel Video Transcript:
Alright guys today we are doing a Chiang Mai apartment tour. We've actually been here for almost a month. So that means are stay is almost up and we've been putting it off because we were waiting for the cleaning lady to come just because we are that messy. Yeah we are. So we just kept delaying and delaying. Yep.
But anyways. That is a true story. First things first shoes off because in most Asian homes you remove your shoes as soon as you enter.
So we actually have a little cubby where the shoes go. I know. This place. Just throw them in there. And before we even get going on the tour I have to say like right away this is the biggest place we've stayed in a really long time. So I know. We actually have proper sections for you know each item of clothes or whatever. Or for sleeping and for working and for cooking although we don't actually do that much cooking. But yes we love this apartment. We've actually been coming to this residence for many years now. This is I would say our third or forth time staying here. This place is called Smith Residence and we just love it. So we keep returning here whenever we need to catch up on work.
So let us begin the tour shall we.
And I guess we should talk about how much we pay for this apartment. It is 20,000 Baht = $570 USD for the month.
We've been in some super tiny accommodations of late. Like when we were in Hong Kong and when we were in Singapore. We wanted a bigger place where we could relax. We wanted something that felt kind of like a home. Kind of like a condo as opposed to a hotel room or a tiny tiny apartment.
So yeah, we splurged. You can get places here that are much smaller for literally less than half of that price. Yeah. And uh yeah it comes with air conditioning, it comes with free internet. Maid service twice a week? Twice a week. That is pretty nice. Which is good for slobs like us.
We hardly have to clean. Yep, so that is really cool. And the location is great. We're located just nearby Chiang Mai Gate. Yes. Which is the old part of the city. We're outside the old part of the city. Just slightly. Just outside the moat. Yeah, just outside the moat. And that means we're close to some really good restaurants, some really good street food and night markets.
Um, so yeah the location is ideal. We have a great view which we've talked about probably like ad nauseum here. Alright, well I think it is time to show you out then. Off you go. Come along. Yeah. We're going to kick you out. Time to get out the door. Look this is fancy. It is all electronic. Tata. Tata.
See ya later! Not.

Amazing Doi Suthep [Mountain Tour] in Chiang Mai, Thailand (2019)
Doi Suthep is a mountain pretty close to Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand's pearl. Actually, it's so close to the western city border that you can just rent a bicycle and go there from almost any point in Chiang Mai. And that's exactly what we did on this way too hot Tuesday morning. Bike rental shops in Chiang Mai are as hard to find as sausages on Thailand's street food stalls and have pretty decent bikes at least compared to the bikes we rented in Cambodia. But I guess this is what you have to do while traveling around southeast Asia renting a motorbike or at least a bicycle to gain independence from tuk-tuk and taxi drivers trying to rip you off. Anyway, it was time for us to join the hair-raising traffic of Thailand's streets as we had chickened out on that so far on our around the world trip. But enough about getting there. When you arrive you will be pleased to see that Doi Suthep's waterfall is at the very beginning of the mountain, so no exhausting mountain stage is needed to get there. We left our bikes, picked up some ice cream and hiked to the waterfall which is a pretty short hike (not sure if you should even call it a hike). Behind the waterfall is a trail called the monks' trail, ist a short but scenic way a little higher up to the mountain. In the end, you will find sort of a pond created by the river leading into the waterfall. Nice opportunity to cool your feet off before going back to physical activity and bike the rest of the mountain. But well, we didn't do that, we are on vacation not in a boot camp.

Our Neighborhood in Chiang Mai, Thailand | A tour of some Thai Buddhist temples, Thai homes and dogs
This is a travel video from our neighborhood in Chiang Mai, Thailand where we give you a walking tour of our surroundings including nearby Thai Buddhist temples, Thai homes (both traditional and modern) and some friendly dogs we happened to encounter along the way. Since we've arrived in Chiang Mai and settled into our cozy little apartment we haven't taken the time to make many new videos. Recently, we both discussed how much we missed making videos; although we won't be doing one per day, like we did on the road, you can expect a lot more travel videos from Chiang Mai over the coming weeks/months.

We though a perfect place to rekindle our passion for random exploring and shooting clips would be in our local neighborhood. With its laid back quirky charms we feel right at home even though we've only been here for several weeks.
One of the first things that we really noticed was the contrast between the different types of local Thai homes in the area. We could literally be walking down the street and suddenly notice a traditional Thai home built on stilts and then moments later (or just across the street) spot a luxury condo.
One of the most endearing aspects of any wander we have in our neighborhood is the friendly encounters we have with most of the dogs; although, there are a few nasty ones as well. As pet lovers, we take the time to talk, play and pet with them. We've both come to realize we'd love to have a home full of cats and dogs in the future, if/when we decide to settle down in one place.
One of the most interesting landmarks in the area is a Silver Buddhist temple. The Silver Temple is metallic and shiny and quite different/unique from most of the other Buddhist temples in our area.
Although we only have a short time left in Chiang Mai, before we hit the road again, we plan to make the most of it:

MUST DO IN CHIANG MAI - Authentic Northern Thailand Hill Tribe
A must do in Chiang Mai is this 100% authentic Northern Thailand Hill Tribe tour. Unlike other things to do in Chiang Mai, this is well off the tourist radar. Watch us explore native Thai villages, cook, and eat exotic Thai food with the locals of Northern Thailand.
Many tour companies in Chiang Mai offer a “hill tribe tour”, only to take you to a contrived Thai village that only exists to serve tourists. What Thailand Hilltribe Holidays does, is offer you a 100% authentic Northern Thailand Hill Tribe tour without any other tourists with you. We were taken to two villages: the Karen Hill Tribe and Hmong Hill Tribe.
* Book this tour with Thailand Hilltribe Holidays:
First was the Karen Hill Tribe in Northern Thailand where we were able to meet a village family and cook with them. Being able to cook with a hill tribe family was one of the most unique experiences in Thailand we have had in all 4 months here! The main dishes were sticky rice cooked inside of bamboo and a mix of curries, however we were able to try some exotic Thai food when they served frog soup! Watch and see how Ryan got tricked into eating this… haha!
The next stop on our Hill Tribe Village tour was the Hmong Hill Tribe village, also located in Northern Thailand inside of Doi Suthep National Park. The Hmong village was more advanced than the Karen, and quite resembled a traditional Thai village you might have seen a decade ago. Since so many people travel Thailand each year, it’s becoming more difficult to find the “local Thailand” visitors crave to see. We can guarantee you by taking this tour, you will have a one of a kind, unforgettable experience.
* Want to learn more about this authentic Thailand Hill Tribe tour? Read our blog here:
If you’re wondering what to do in Chiang Mai but don’t want to hit up the popular tourist spots, then this authentic Northern Thailand Hill Tribe tour is for you. It took us a lot of research to find this experience, since it’s not on any of the Chiang Mai to do lists you find online. We hope by watching this video you were able to get an inside look into life for a local Thailand hill tribe and are inspired to take a hill tribe tour yourself!
If you have any questions about this must do in Chiang Mai, how to travel Thailand, or the best things to do in Chiang Mai, feel free to leave a comment down below. We also have a huge list of Thailand travel vlogs you can watch to help plan your trip to Northern Thailand, Bangkok, Krabi, Phuket, or Chiang Mai.
* We’re Ryan & Stacia from DeathbyVlog. Unlike other travel vloggers, we live and work in a different country each month with a moderate housing budget. Sorry, but no backpacker lifestyle here! Our channel will show you what it’s like to live abroad while exploring top tourist destinations and hidden gems. We will show you mouthwatering local food tours, provide history on each destination, and cinematic broll for all of you film lovers. Each month we rent an apartment or airbnb in a different city or country, so follow along on this journey and learn about countries around the world. We hope you enjoy our travel vlog, don’t forget to subscribe!

Get To Know The Northern Thai Hill Tribes - Chiang Mai, Thailand
When I was a child I used to watch documentaries about people all over the world with my father, I never thought it would be possible to meet any of those people, it never happened to anyone I knew. We were just watching, getting amazed, and getting on with our lives.
Not even for a second, I could imagine being where I am today, experiencing first-hand cultures that were just extraordinary dreams.
I am grateful to say this is not the first time I am inside one of the documentaries we watched, and I pray it won’t be the last.

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling! So we extended our 1 year trip to now FOUR years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)
Chiang Mai (เชียงใหม่) Tuk Tuk Temple Tour | Spicy Thai Food Near Night Market | Thailand Travel
In this travel adventure, we visit Chiang Mai (เชียงใหม่), the largest city in Northern Thailand. The city which sits on the ping river and is surrounded by a mountainous landscape was founded in 1296 as the capital of the ancient Lanna Kingdom. Chiang Mai is rich in history and has over 300 Buddhist temples in the city. We visit the three most important temples complexes in the city, which are: Wat Chiang Man, Wat Phra Singh, and Wat Chedi Luang. The temples are not in walking distance from one another, so we highly recommend hiring a tuk-tuk driver for the day. They will happily take you to the sights you want to visit and ours was very informative about the history of each place.
After our tuk-tuk temple tour of Chiang Mai, we head to the popular restaurant, Lemongrass Thai Cuisine. It's located right next to the famous night market of Chiang Mai and close to the Movenpick Hotel, we stayed at. The staff is very friendly, and we feasted on a whole array of Thai food dishes. Daniel decided to go the spiciest ever with his Choo Chee Curry dish. We also had chicken satay's, seafood fried rice with pineapple, baby corn in curry, and spicy Thai shrimp salad.

Unique and RARE THAI FOOD in Chiang Mai, Thailand! | Best Restaurants in Chiang Mai Tour

T-shirts and caps:
CHIANG MAI, THAILAND - In this video I’m going to show you a mix of restaurants and street food in Chiang Mai - and everything a little rare, unique, or unheard of. We ate a one of a kind satay in Chiang mai for breakfast, had rare Thai food for lunch, and amazing seafood for dinner - but seafood in Chiang Mai? I’m going to share all the restaurants with you here.
Beef satay (เนื้อสะเต๊ะใต้ต้นข่อย) - For breakfast we went to a small street food stall serving a unique type of beef satay (เนื้อสะเต๊ะ). It was cool to sit down right where they were being grilled and eat stick after stick. The beef was so juicy, but the sauce was a little sweet for me.
Price - 5 THB ($0.15) per stick
Saiyut's Kitchen (ครัวอาจารย์สายหยุด) - This is a top restaurant in Chiang Mai that serves a mix of high end, Royal, and old family Thai recipes. Here are the main dishes we ordered:
Saeng wa goong (แสร้งว่ากุ้ง)
Nam prik kai boo (นำ้พริกไข่ปู)
Chaw muang (ช่อม่วง)
Kratong tong (กระทงทอง)
Karawaek sodsee (การะเวกสอดสี)
Room (หรุ่ม)
Chiang da pad kai (เชียงดาผัดไข่)
Khao yam (ข้าวยำ)
Pla tod samoon prai (ปลาทอดสมุนไพร)
Gaeng ranjuan (แกงรัญจวน)
Mee krob Chaowang (หมี่กรอบชาววัง)
The food was overall quite good. It’s not always my personal favorite type of Thai food, but I did enjoy the food here, and the presentation and history. Food is more on the sweet side than spicy side. Well worth trying when you’re in Chiang Mai.
Total price - 1,725 THB ($52.31)
Lerd Rote Tai Rom Ma-Feuang (เลิศรสใต้ร่มมะเฟือง) - Finally on this best restaurants tour of Chiang Mai we decided to go to a restaurant that many locals from Chiang Mai recommend for seafood. Yes, I was a little hesitant to eat seafood in Chiang Mai, considering its distance from the ocean, be we went for it. Turned out to be quite an amazing seafood meal, although expensive, it was delicious.
Shrimp chilies salt (กุ้งพริกเกลือ)
Tom yum fish (ต้มยำปลา นำ้ใส)
Black pepper crab (ปูผัดพริกไทยดำ)
Total price - 2,000 THB ($60.65)

Well, I left Chiang Mai after 8 months last week and now I reside in Bangkhae Bangkok. I thought I would give you my perspective on the place after living there.
I feel like it might be the most overrated place on earth. Compared to where I live now it feels like I was banished to the farthest corner of Thailand in a perpetual tourist nightmare, with bad air, horrible traffic, zero pedestrian access to anything, and not a whole lot to do unless I want to go sit around and drink somewhere.
I lived in a place called Stylish Condo which was near the University, and great, but even getting in and out of the place on foot was dangerous as I had to walk a few hundred meters without a sidewalk on the outer ring road. Life and death every day it seemed.
The air was so horrible, and when I see all the posts about how the place is bicycle-friendly I can only laugh…more life and death. I had a motorbike for a month..gave it up as I saw too many accidents or saw too many others have near missed. On the plus side, I had the University nearby and could go and play soccer once or twice a week with Thai people. Mostly University Students, and always fun.
I never saw a single Westerner there to play which quite honestly really surprised me considering the amount of Westerners in Chaing Mai. Overall I had almost no interaction at all with Westerners who I found to be for the most part to be very unfriendly. Usually not even returning a nod when walking down the sidewalk.
I enjoyed the markets in Chiang Mai, but nothing compares to here in Bangkhae. What I like about where I am now is that I almost NEVER see westerners here. I live right across the street from The Mall Bangkhae and will see maybe one in a day. Here almost no English is spoken which forces me to try to use Thai, although I am seldom understood, but I try.
I have a futsal court nearby across the street from the Mall Bangkhae, and another about 4km away and that will be where I try to play. I have a pool and have joined a gym as I did in Chiang Mai. My rent is less here for a nicer place. I think all the digital nomad garbage about Chiang Mai is just that…garbage.
I can live cheaper in Bangkok and still easily work online if I wanted to. I have a train nearby and one opening in a year right in front of where I live. I intend to stay here and have this as my base no matter where I visit in Thailand. I am on a retiree visa. I will comment to you a bit about retiree visa you may find this interesting for your vlogs.

BEST MARKET IN CHIANG MAI THAILAND - Sunday Night Market & Walking Street
We show you around the best market in Chiang Mai, Thailand: The Sunday night market & walking street. This market is 1.2 KM long where you can buy local goods produced here in Chiang Mai Thailand and sample a huge variety of Thai street food. This is by far the best night market in Chiang Mai. Watch and see why.
One of our favorite things to do while traveling, particularly in Thailand, is to visit a night market. Here at the Chiang Mai Sunday night market, also referred to as the Chiang Mai walking street, you can eat local Thai street food, shop for handmade clothing, and barter for a bargain. Markets are notoriously known to have some of the most unique shopping in Chiang Mai, and this one is by far the best.
The incredible and distinguishing factor of the Sunday night market Chiang Mai is the atmosphere. The market is located in the old city of Chiang Mai Thailand which is surrounded by beautiful buddhist temples and 14th century buildings. You will find most of the Thai street food at the Sunday night market & walking street located on different temple grounds. Is there a better way to enjoy local Thailand cuisine while gazing up at a beautifully ornate buddhist temple? That’s what we call food with a view!
This Chiang Mai market doesn’t get called the best market in Chiang Mai for nothing. The city completely shuts down Ratchadamneon Road for 1.2 Kilometers, so if you plan to visit you better bring your walking shoes! One of the best things about night markets in Thailand is that they stay open late. The night market in Chiang Mai is open each sunday from roughly 5pm - midnight so you will have the chance to see almost every vendor and fulfill your shopping needs. Speaking of shopping in Chiang Mai, don’t forget to test out your haggling skills with is acceptable at all night markets in Chiang Mai. Stacia is absolutely terrible at haggling, but to be fair she was up against a really stern Thai woman who wasn’t going to budge on the price of her dress. Ryan on the other hand is a great haggler even though we left the market empty handed.
If you’re interested in fun things to do in Chiang Mai, we highly recommend the Chiang Mai Sunday night market. The Chiang Mai Sunday night market & walking street is consistently regarded as one of the best things to do in Chiang Mai. If you are interested in learning about or seeing other night markets in Thailand, head over to our Instagram account and watch the IGTV story of eating bizarre Thai street food at the Krabi night market. We also have a video on the biggest market in Thailand called the Chatuchak Weekend Market in Bangkok.
