River Thames boat cruise ( excerpts ). London
The River Thames is a river that flows through southern England. It is the longest river entirely in England and the 2nd longest in the United Kingdom, after the River Severn. While it is best known for flowing through London, the river also flows alongside other towns and cities, including Oxford, Reading, Henley-on-Thames, and Windsor.
Passing through London, the river is deep and navigable to ships; the Thames drains the whole of Greater London. Its tidal section, reaching up to Teddington Lock, includes most of its London stretch and has a rise and fall of 7 metres (23 ft).
The marks of human activity, in some cases dating back to Pre-Roman Britain, are visible at various points along the river. These include a variety of structures connected with use of the river, such as navigations, bridges, and watermills, as well as prehistoric burial mounds. A major maritime route is formed for much of its length for shipping and supplies: through the Port of London for international trade, internally along its length and by its connection to the British canal system. The river's position has put it at the centre of many events in British history, leading to it being described by John Burns as liquid history.
Etymology:
The Thames, from Middle English Temese, is derived from the Celtic name for the river, Tamesas (from *tamēssa), recorded in Latin as Tamesis and yielding modern Welsh Tafwys Thames. The name probably meant dark and can be compared to other cognates such as Russian темно (Proto-Slavic *tьmьnъ), Sanskrit tamas, Irish teimheal and Welsh tywyll darkness (Proto-Celtic *temeslos) and Middle Irish teimen dark grey, though Richard Coates mentions other theories: Kenneth Jackson's that it is non Indo-European (and of unknown meaning), and Peter Kitson's that it is Indo-European but pre-Celtic and has a name indicating muddiness from a root *tā-, 'melt'.
The Thames flows through Central London and provides a stunning backdrop to many of the city's top tourist attractions. The 2,000-year-old river harbours much of London's history, as well as providing ongoing inspiration for artists, musicians and writers. There's also a host of sporting and leisure activities you can do on and around London's waterways.
The Thames is a tidal river, rising and falling as much as 8m (26ft) between high and low tides. Although it was once the source of London's Great Stink (1858), today the Thames is one of the cleanest rivers in Europe, thanks to successful campaigns by groups such as Thames21.
River Thames Services
River bus services are popular with visitors and commuters alike, and are a great way of beating the traffic and enjoying fantastic views. There are also river tours and cruises that feature sightseeing and commentary, dancing, music and fine dining. Schedules vary according to season. Oyster and Travelcard holders can get discounts on many routes and hop-on, hop-off tickets may be available.

Riding The Woolwich Ferry, River Thames, London
The Woolwich Ferry is a free vehicle ferry service across the River Thames in East London, connecting Woolwich to the south with North Woolwich to the north. It is licensed and financed by London River Services, the maritime arm of Transport for London. The service is operated by Briggs Marine under licence from TfL and carries both foot passengers and vehicles. Around two million passengers use the ferry each year.
There has been a ferry operating in Woolwich since the 14th century, and commercial crossings operated intermittently until the mid-19th century. The free service opened in 1889, following the abolition of tolls across bridges to the west of London. Traffic increased in the 20th century owing to the rise in motor vehicle use, and because of the lack of nearby fixed crossings of the Thames it has remained popular, although pedestrian use has dropped as a result of the construction of a parallel foot tunnel and the extension of the Docklands Light Railway through to Woolwich Arsenal station. Alternatives such as the Thames Gateway Bridge and the Gallions Reach Crossing have been proposed as replacements, but there are no immediate plans to discontinue the Woolwich Ferry as long as there is a demand.

Boating on the Thames, UK
UK: LONDON: THAMES RIVER PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE
English/Nat
Britain's Queen Elizabeth on Tuesday inaugurated a multi-million U-S dollar pedestrian bridge which spans the Thames River in Central London.
But the bridge won't be open to the public until construction is completed in June.
Before the grand inauguration ceremony, a special service was held at St Paul's Cathedral.
Queen Elizabeth II greeted London's new Mayor, Ken Livingstone at St Paul's Cathedral in London before the inauguration ceremony for the Millennium Bridge on Tuesday.
The Duke of Edinburgh accompanied the Queen, and the Bishops of London and Southwark were also present.
The inauguration ceremony began with a procession through St Paul's cathedral while the National Anthem was played.
A choir then led the service singing hymns to mark the celebration.
After the service, the Queen made her way to the Millennium Bridge for a stroll over the Thames River.
The bridge was decorated brightly and a band played music for her Majesty as she walked along it.
The Queen said a few words at the ceremony.
SOUNDBITE: (English)
I dedicate this bridge as a symbol of the new Millennium to the people of Southwark and the city of London and to all who shall pass over it from all over the world.
SUPER CAPTION: Queen Elizabeth II
The pedestrian-only bridge will not open to the public until June 10 as it is not completely finished - but the authorities did not want to delay the inauguration ceremony.
At a length of 320 metres, the bridge is the first new crossing over the River Thames since Tower Bridge opened in 1894.
The festivities to mark the inauguration ceremony also included boat formations and live music on the river provided by musicians from the Guildhall School of Music and the City of London Boys School amongst others.
The bells of St Paul's were also rung.
The bridge has been created by architects Foster and Partners, sculptor Sir Anthony Caro and engineers Ove Arup and Partners.
It's cost was 18 (m) English pounds (roughly 28 (m) million U-S dollars) and was partly funded by the Millennium Commission and the Government Office for London.

London Eye View - Millennium Wheel Over Thames River
No trip to London is complete without seeing and even being on a London Eye trip/tour. On a good day you can see all around the South Bank of the River Thames. Sometimes called the Big Wheel - or the Millennium Wheel - when it was first installed back in 1999 - it has become an incredibly popular attraction.
The structure is 443 feet (135 m) tall and the wheel has a diameter of 394 feet (120 m). When it opened to the public in 2000 it was the world's tallest Ferris wheel. It is now known as the Coca-Cola London Eye due to a certain sponsorship deal!
There are 32 sealed air conditioned ovoidal passenger capsules which represent the 32 London boroughs. Each capsule holds a maximum of 25 people and you can actually walk around the capsule while it is moving - the rotation is very slow! The original wheel was owned by The Tussaud's Group, British Airways and Marks Barfield who were the original architects - but Tussaud's bought their partners out in 2005 and 2006. The Blackstone Group bought Tussaud's out in 2007 - but the London Eye has stayed true to the core as a principal tourist attraction for anyone visiting London for a weekend shopping or sight seeing trip.
London has always been a leading global city that people from around the world come to visit, it leads in different fields; in art, education, fashion, entertainment, commerce, finance, healthcare, media, professional services, research and development, as well as tourism and transportation and this means that those who come to London do not just come for the sake of touring the city, but they might be also coming to study.
There are lots of different things that would make London one of the most visited cities around the world, if not for the different touristic attractions and old English buildings that attract the eyes then it would at least be for visiting one of the cities that lead the world in education with its universities or even for being the first city to host the modern Summer Olympic Games for three times.
There are lots of places for one to visit while being in London City, London Eye is definitely one of them since it gives people the chance to have full view of the city while they are rotating up there in this wheel; they will get to see Big Ben, London Bridge, Tower Bridge, and have a general view across River Thames and all those important tall buildings which might be located by it.
Generally speaking, there are other important places which one should visit when it comes to London that are not just related to London Eye and those other attractions which might be close enough. Those other touristic locations will include the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace and managing to choose a time during the changing of the guards, Madame Tussaud's London and searching for those famous characters which are considered your favorite, SEA LIFE London and exploring the life under the water with those creatures living inside, the view from the Shard which will bring you up to 40 miles and give you the chance to see the whole city from up there, Kensington Palace, and add to these historical attractions some other places that include London Dungeon and for those Harry Potter lovers there is Warner Bros Studio Tour.
These are all the different touristic destinations which might be always standing on the top of the list when it comes to London, but there are other places which tourists tend to visit and things which they tend to do in London, such as visiting Oxford and Regent streets, either for shopping or just for checking the streets in general, they might also ride the hop-on hop-off bus for a tour around the city, there are those football admirers who visit Chelsea FC Stadium for a tour there, or other general walking tours which are usually done around the city.
Whether it is about the historical English culture that is delivered through the buildings and the museums, about the walking tours which are done throughout the streets of the city, checking those new museums that are related to famous characters and movies and series, or even the food which one might come to taste in this beautiful city, there are lots of things to be done in this beautiful old city that would bring more tourists to it every single year and make the whole thing appear more interesting.
We have been to London before several times and for the sake of this channel, we have been before to the National History Museum which you could check its video here ( and which is considered one of the best museums in all of London. This time we have been to the famous London Eye and we have even managed to bring the view from up there.
If you haven't been to Coca-Cola London Eye yet then you should definitely go and check this beautiful city and enjoy all its touristic attractions.
Coca-Cola London Eye will never be missed or removed from any plan related to London and it will definitely bring perfect views for the visitors.
