Bosnia's Magnificent Looping Bridge
Festina Lente is a looping bridge in Sarajevo designed by three Bosnian product design students—Adnan Alagić, Bojan Kanlić, and Amila Hrustić. Located right outside the Academy of Fine Arts, the trio of former students first conceptualized the design for the bridge five years ago. After winning a competition, construction began on the innovative structure that now sits at 38 meters long over the Miljacka river.
The looping bridge includes two seating areas within the loop-de-loop area, inviting pedestrians to sit, socialize, and take in the surrounding environment. Adding to the aesthetic charm of the connecting bridge are LED lights that line it, illuminating the flowing river below and the night sky above.
The creatively designed overpass features modern design choices that echo themes of the university's rich history that are both secular and spiritual in nature. While at present day the steel bridge leads to an educational institution, the academy was once a church. The designers say, Crossing the bridge is a unique experience because of its specific layout and the views that we encounter when going through the gate (the closed part of the bridge), preparing us to enter into another dimension and awake spirituality.

I pad Art-Sadko Hadzihasanovic
Sadko Hadzihasanovic studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo, Bosnia, earned his MFA at the University of Belgrade, Yugoslavia (1984) and then left war-torn Sarajevo for Canada in 1993.
Since his arrival in Canada Sadko has participated in over sixty exhibitions in public galleries and artist-run centres in Quebec, across Canada and in the former Yugoslavia. He is the recipient of visual arts grants from the Toronto Art Council, the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts and maintains teaching positions in Toronto and Guelph, Ontario.
Sadko continues to explore the construction of identity, and its cultural and social implications, with an extensive and ongoing portraiture-based body of work using mixed media and collage, and an array of references to popular culture. For his exhibition at PAPIER 12 Sadko is exhibiting drawings, collage, monotypes and prints that focus on the exploration of childhood and adolescence. He refers to the environment of his upbringing in Bosnia and the relatively exotic vacation paradise of Cuba and its Communist undertones with works that contrast a childhood lived under the threat of war and an unhurried North American childhood lived without the looming presence of world affairs.

Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina - Travel Around The World | Top best places to visit in Sarajevo
Top best places to visit in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Sarajevo is the capital and the largest city of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Because of its long and rich history of religious and cultural variety, Sarajevo is called the “Jerusalem of Europe”. All four major religions are living here together, in harmony.
The historical and cultural center of the city, Bascarsija is Sarajevo’s old bazaar formed around the fountain called Sebilj.
On Baščaršija there are several important historic buildings, like the Gazi Husrev-beg Mosque, the largest mosque in the country.
Complex of the Bey’s Mosque consists also of schools, a marketplace, a public bath and the Clock Tower one of the most impressiv architectural sites in town.
In the city’s Old Town district is also the Sacred Heart Cathedral, a Christian church and the largest cathedral in Bosnia.
And a stone’s throw away is one of the largest Serbian Orthodox buildings, the Cathedral Church of the Nativity of the Theotokos.
There is also a Jewish heritage. The Old Synagogue was the oldest place of worship for Jews in the city, today it is a museum.
In the historic center of Sarajevo stands the Markale, a marketplace that was bombed two times during the Siege in the 90's.
But maybe the biggest attraction is just walking through the Baščaršija to get a glimpse into Ottoman times.
There are many prominent landmarks along the Miljacka River, such as:
The City Hall, known as Vijecnica, initially the most representative building of the Austria-Hungarian period.
The Emperor’s Mosque, the first mosque to be built after the Ottoman conquest of Bosnia.
The Academy of Fine Arts, one of the loveliest buildings in Sarajevo, originally built to serve as an Evangelical Church.
The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand took place across the street from the Latin Bridge, the event sparked the beginning of World War I.
Outside the city core, the most interesting things to see are:
The Presidency Building, the official residence of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
One of the most harmonious and loveliest sites, the Ali Pasha’s Mosque, a resting place for many important Bosnians.
The National Museum, the oldest cultural and scientific institution in the country.
And situated next to the Historical Museum.
Not far away from there is the tallest skyscraper in the Balkans, the Avaz Twist Tower.
From the top, there is an amazing, almost 360° view of the city.

CCTV EAST by Zlatko Cosic
CCTV EAST, video installation, 3 min., loop, 2010
CCTV East (Close Circuit TV East) touches themes of freedom, surveillance and privacy. The holes in the Berlin Wall serve as camera views that switch through eight different angles, looking from the west to the east part of Berlin. As the views change, a girl in a red jacket appears, passing by, stopping and looking at the viewer. She is an ordinary person who wants to escape and change her life. The uneasiness of surveillance and loss of privacy makes people vulnerable and empty. This work focuses on individuals, whose freedom is affected by government decisions and political games.
