THE ALAMO SAN ANTONIO TEXAS / THE MISSION SAN JOSE
OMG The Alamo and missions san jose (TMFA trip 3)
this is just my walk threw of the alamo ..my video documentary.
The Alamo Mission in San Antonio, commonly called the Alamo and originally known as Misión San Antonio de Valero, is part of the San Antonio Missions World Heritage Site in San Antonio, Texas, United States.
San Jose missions-In 1720, Fray Antonio Margil de Jesús founded what became the best known of the Texas Missions, San José y San Miguel de Aguayo. Viewed as a model of Mission organization, Mission San José was a major social center. The unique architecture of its church and the richness of its fields and pastures led visitors to comment on its beauty. The size of the complex bears witness to San José’s reputation as the “Queen of the Missions.”
Mission San José was moved twice from its original site until it was finally built at its present location, set back from the temperamental river to a place on a small rise. At this time, it entered into a period of great achievement. Mission San José became the showplace of the Southwest.
The present church of Mission San José was begun in 1758 with the cornerstone laid by Governor Don Hugo Oconor and Gaspar José Solis, a Franciscan inspector. It was not completed until 1782 but became “the most beautiful church along the entire frontier of New Spain.

Alamo Plaza in San Antonio Texas Where The Battle Of The Alamo Was Actually Fought
Thanks to a series of movies about the famous Battle of the Alamo in San Antonio Texas, most Americans imagine a fight that took place mainly in front of the famous Alamo facade that's so recognizable. In fact. the battle actually occurred over a much larger area that was part of the remains of a sprawling mission complex built in the 1700s.
No one knows where David Crockett actually died, but there's a good chance he wasn't standing on a rampart swinging his rifle at attackers who were trying to mob him. There are some who speculate he may have actually survived the battle and been executed afterward. Colonel Travis, the commander of the defenders, actually died in the first few minutes of the battle in an area more than 100 yards from there. It's believed Jim Bowie was killed in an area on the Plaza that is not even marked with a plaque of any kind today. If you don't already know where it is, you have to ask an Alamo guide to find out.
In any case, Alamo Plaza is the general area in front of the iconic Church facade that almost every American - certainly every Texan - would immediately recognize.
Alamo Plaza is surrounded now by several hotels, a huge mall, and dozens of tourist shops. Although the area nearby is highly commercialized, it is still a pleasant place to visit to learn more about one of the most famous places in America and what happened there on March 6th, 1836.

Comanche Lookout Park Hike San Antonio TX
Took my grandkids to Comanche Lookout Park located in Northeast San Antonio on Nacogdoches Road.
Take a kid hiking.
Get them outside, even just for a little bit.
Native Americans used this hill as a vantage point for warfare and hunting. The Apache and Comanche Indians dominated the area as they hunted along waterways including nearby Cibolo Creek. The hill was also a prominent landmark for travelers in the 18th and 19th centuries. The old Spanish road from San Antonio to Bastrop and Nacogdoches in East Texas extended past the base of the hill. The road followed earlier American Indian travel routes, and today its remnants are known as Nacogdoches Road.
Comanche Lookout Park is a 96-acre public park owned by the City of San Antonio. The site includes the fourth highest point in Bexar County with an elevation of 1,340 feet. Vegetation on the hill includes native Ash Juniper, Texas and Mexican Buckeye, Chinaberry, Graneno, Lindheimer Hackberry and Honey Mesquite.

The Historic Menger Hotel On Alamo Plaza In Downtown San Antonio
The historic Menger Hotel in downtown San Antonio is located near Alamo Plaza just a few feet from the famous Alamo. In fact, it sits on land where the battle of the Alamo was actually fought.
It's also adjacent to the Rivercenter Mall, one of the many fun places to visit in downtown San Antonio, and is easy walking distance from many of San Antonio's most popular tourist attractions like the Tower Of The Americas, La Villita, and the San Antonio River Walk. The Henry B. Gonzalez Center - one of the busiest in America - is about 500 feet from the Menger's front doors.
The Menger is also reportedly haunted. There have been a number of apparitions sighted thru the years.
The Menger is also famous for the Menger Bar, which Theodore Roosevelt used as a recruiting center for his famous Rough Riders.

The Menger Hotel - close to the Alamo
From Mike Trigg Films: The Menger Hotel in San Antonio, Texas is more than a hotel. It's a museum. Generations of families from all over the world have made the Menger Hotel their home when they travel to San Antonio. It has alway been and will always be their home away from home, their hotel of choice. Staff at this hotel are like no other. They are very proud caretakers of this magnificent hotel that opened before the Civil War. Yes that is correct. It opened before the Civil War. And another bonus, the hotel sits right next to that most famous of Texas shrines, The Alamo. Art work abounds in these hallways. The iconic oil painting that hung above Rock Hudson's head in so many scenes in the blockbuster classic Giant, now hangs in the lobby. Teddy Roosevelt recruited many of his famous Rough Riders in the hotel bar. This hotel has housed as guests 13 U.S presidents, as well as diplomats, aristocrats, and royalty. President Bill Clinton made their Mango Ice Cream world famous when he discovered it on one visit. Service and food are outstanding. The Menger Hotel is considered the Grand Dame of the hospitality industry in San Antonio and west of the Mississippi. Also we must not forget that the Menger Hotel is haunted. Hotel officials will be happy to share some of those stories with you and there are many of them posted online. Enjoy your stay!
