Taxes & Smuggling - Prelude to Revolution: Crash Course US History #6
In which John Green teaches you about the roots of the American Revolution. The Revolution did not start on July 4, 1776. The Revolutionary War didn't start on July 4 either. (as you remember, I'm sure, the Revolution and the Revolutionary War are not the same thing) The shooting started on April 19, 1775, at Lexington and/or Concord, MA. Or the shooting started with the Boston Massacre on March 5, 1770. At least we can pin down the Declaration of Independence to July 4, 1776. Except that most of the signers didn't sign until August 2. The point is that the beginning of the Revolution is very complex and hard to pin down. John will lead you through the bramble of taxes, royal decrees, acts of parliament, colonial responses, and various congresses. We'll start with the end of the Seven Years War, and the bill that the British ran up fighting the war. This led to taxes on colonial trade, which led to colonists demanding representation, which led to revolution. It all seems very complicated, but Crash Course will get you through it in about 12 minutes.

Postage stamps and postal history of the United States
The history of postal service of the United States began with the delivery of stampless letters, whose cost was borne by the receiving person, later also encompassed pre-paid letters carried by private mail carriers and provisional post offices, and culminated in a system of universal pre-payment that required all letters to bear nationally issued adhesive postage stamps.
In the earliest days, Ship captains arriving in port with stampless mail would advertise in the local newspaper names of those having mail and for them to come collect and pay for it, if not already paid for by the sender. Postal delivery in the United States was a matter of haphazard local organization until after the Revolutionary War, when eventually a national postal system was established. Stampless letters, paid for by the receiver, and private postal systems, were gradually phased out after the introduction of adhesive postage stamps, first issued by the U.S. government post office July 1, 1847 in the denominations of five and ten cents, with the use of stamps made mandatory in 1855.

Transatlantic Call: People to People
CBS and the BBC launched Transatlantic Call: People to People during World War II as an exchange series of 13 radio programs designed to bring the two nations closer together and to tell the people of each country how their friends and allies are living, working and fighting. This event culminated a week-long work-a-thon whose goal was to bring together scholars to apply their skills to the transcription, annotation, contextualization, digitization and preservation of Transatlantic Call and other related broadcast materials being brought online by the American Folklife Center.

Sherman's March 1985 (Full Documentary)
Movie loosely based on the actual Sherman's March. It's mostly about Ross McElwee(the director) and his adventures with hot southern women. He recalls seeing a atmosphere nuke test as a child, which affected his life forever. Oh, and Burt Reynolds makes an appearance! A die-hard fan got a kiss on the cheek from Burt, and her life was also greatly affected forever! Mish-mash movie, but very entertaining!
