The 2015 Medtronic Bakken Society Induction Ceremony at the Bakken Museum in Minneapolis, MN
The 2015 Medtronic Bakken Society Induction Ceremony at the Bakken Museum in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
On Thursday, August 27th, Joannie and I once again had the wonderful honor of photographing the 2015 Medtronic Bakken Society Awards Banquet held at The Bakken Museum . The Bakken Museum is located about a block off Lake Calhoun in Minneapolis, MN.
This is alway one of our favorite events of the whole year! It's black tie and very elegant, held a really beautiful location, super nice and friendly people, always an incredible dinner from D'Amico Catering and the list of great things goes on and on! Joannie and I been blessed to have been at this wonderful event as it's official photographers for more than 16 years!
In addition to being the official photographers for this special event, I have been video taping it (scary huh?) for the past few years. Video taping at special events; who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks? Don't worry, I'm still going to keep my day job.
Each year, The Bakken Museum's own Christopher Lundeen and his crew of minions turn a classroom at The Bakken Museum into a stunning banquet room! The theme, colors, menu and decor change every year. It's always a really beautiful event!
The 2015 Chairman of this year's special event was Cynthia Clague, a 2011 Bakken Fellow. Once again the MC for the evening was Paul Citron, a 1980 Bakken Fellow who has been the MC for several years.
Also speaking during the induction ceremony was Omar Ishrak, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Medtronic, Inc.
The 2015 new inductees into the Bakken Society are; Matthew Bonner, Ph.D., Rebecca K. Gottlieb, Ph.D, Steven L. Hartmann, Ph.D., Paul Hermes, Alexander Hill, Ph.D., Loic Josse, John Kennedy, Venkatesh Rao Manda, Stanislaw Marczyk, Warren Sanborn, Shantanu Sarkar, Ph. D., Daniel E. Schaber, Pharm. D., Robert Stoddard and Robert Wham.
The list of accomplishments, inventions, patents and stories of these fourteen gifted individuals is simply remarkable! These are just some of the people (and many, many others at Medtronic) who make a tremendous difference in people's lives all over the world.
So without further ado, here's the highlights of the beautiful 2015 Medtronic Bakken Society Induction Ceremony. Joannie & I look forward once again to next years wonderful event.

Possible train from St. Cloud to Chicago
ST. CLOUD - The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) is planning a second intercity train and St. Cloud is in the running to connect to Chicago. This train serves both business and personal travel needs any time of day all week.
Some other cities up for nomination to connect to Chicago are St. Paul and the Twin Cities. Cost analysis studies are taking place right now to determine which location will be most beneficial.
The department is in the beginning stages of making this intercity train happen. MnDOT director of passenger rails says a second train going from Illinois to Minnesota will benefit the economy.
If the train is approved by the legislature then it is estimated to take about two to three years to complete. MnDOT is currently studying if the benefits of connecting St. Cloud and Chicago outweigh the costs.
There is currently no funding for this project but UTVS News will keep you posted.

Wisconsin Geology Alma Mater
What does a seismologist, geophysicist, glacial geologist and sedimentologist have in common? How about a geology trained hang gliding instructor from Western Michigan University. Here at Oregon Hang Gliding School we specialize to teaching academics how to fly and something about visceral nonlinear dynamics. Seriously, here at Kiwanda Kites we like to host conferences on complexity science, holistic healing, and other paradigm busting topics. However we mix work with play with eco-kayaking, horse back riding, surfing, hiking and hang gliding.
