Ming Tombs, Beijing - China Travel Channel
The Ming Dynasty Tombs ( 明十三陵 ) - 31 miles away from the Chinese capital -- are an interesting destinations for visitors of Beijing. Half way between the Great Wall and Peking are the mausoleums of 13 of the 16 Ming emperors. The grave of Dingling, the Emperor Wanli ( 萬曆 ) between 1572 and 1620, is freely accessible. The grave, located 88.6 ft below ground, can be reached through an ante-chamber which was empty when it was discovered. The actual grave chamber holds 3 coffins: the Emperor's, his wife's and that of a concubine. Between the entrance and the foyer is another hall containing three marble thrones with small altars.
Each grave includes a higher Stela Pavillion with the Remembrance Stela of the deceased. If no text is found on the stela it means that the level of fame of the deceased was so great that the room assigned to hold it was not large enough. From the outside, each grave appears only as a round mound of earth. The original preparation halls where the deceased were sacrified, today serve as exhibit areas for grave goods or their copies.
In 2003 the UNESCO has included the Ming Tombs in the World Heritage List.

The Great Wall of China and The Forbidden City | BEIJING
Beijing is home to some of China's most incredible treasures and ancient historical sites. Most famously, The Great Wall of China and The Forbidden City aka Palace Museum. As Kiwi Asians this was something we (and our family) always wanted to see in person in order to connect more with our Chinese roots.
Beijing accommodation is expensive especially when looking for a place that could fit all 6 of us. But after spending a fair bit of time looking for accommodation in Beijing, we ended up renting out an old, traditional Hutong in Beijing, China.
For our first family adventure in Beijing we went to visit the most famous and iconic Chinese landmark, The Great Wall of China.
The Great Wall of China is one of those must-visit and life bucket list items of many people including us so it was incredible to be able to finally visit it during our Beijing, China trip with our parents.
We entered The Great Wall of China from:
Mutianyu Great Wall Scenic Area Ticket Office
Address: Mutianyu Rd, Huairou, Beijing, China
If you're wondering what's the best way to see the Great Wall or what section to visit, Mutianyu (where we went) is supposed to be the less touristy and crowded of the entrances to the Great Wall in Beijing so although it was a bit further to travel we thought it was the better option as crowds in China are next level!
When we reached the The Great Wall of China, we walked from watch tower 6 to watch tower 1. Finally getting to see let alone walk along The Great Wall of China was a special and amazing experience for us. So much Chinese history and what an astounding feat of human engineering. We were fortunate to have clear blue skies in Beijing that day so we could see The Great Wall of China stretch on as far as our eyes could see.
After our time visiting The Great Wall of China we then travelled to the very scenic and beautiful Sacred Path also known as Sacred Way or Sacred Road in Beijing.
The Sacred Path of the Ming Tombs was a very peaceful and beautiful stretch of walkway. It's a great place to visit when in Beijing for its historical and scenic beauty.
The Sacred Path of the Ming Tombs
Ming Shisan Ling Area, Changling Town, Changping District, Beijing 102213, China
Beijing is also famous for Peking duck. We found the place where the delicious Peking duck dish was apparently first invented and ate there for dinner.
Quanjude Roast Duck (Wangfujing)
13 Shuaifuyuan Lu, Wangfujing, Dongcheng District, Beijing, China
The next day we woke up bright and early to visit Tiananmen Square which is very near the Imperial City and Forbidden City (now known as Palace Museum). When visiting Tiananmen Square's be prepared to see a huge amount of tourists there. Also at Tiananmen Square though, we saw various architectural highlights like the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong and the Great Hall of the People as we made our way over to the Imperial City and Forbidden City (Palace Museum).
The Palace Museum / The Forbidden City:
Address: 4 Jingshan Front St, Dongcheng, Beijing, China, 100009
Going inside The Forbidden City is definitely a top thing to do in Beijing. The Forbidden City (Palace Museum) is without a doubt a top attraction and must visit in Beijing. The Forbidden City lies in the centre of the Imperial City in Beijing, China but just remember to look out for signs for the Palace Museum as you actually won't see anything saying Forbidden City.
It was amazing getting to explore this absolutely massive complex. Our whole family had the most incredible time in Beijing. Beijing with its many famous and top attractions is a must visit when in China. Getting to see The Great Wall of China and The Forbidden City with our own eyes was an unforgettable experience and one that we feel blessed to have gotten to share with our parents especially given our Chinese roots.

How to ride the Beijing subway
Beijing has one of the largest subway network in the world. Despite this, it is very easy to navigate. As it takes you to most tourists attraction and because the traffic in Beijing is horrendous, this is the best way to get around Beijing.
This video will give an overview on how the subway works. The key to a stress-free trip in Beijing is a good map. There are many maps available online. We like this online subway map as it has a ton of information including the shortest route: They also have an app for smartphone.
If you plan to use the subway regularly, you should get a Yikatong card. This transportation card can be bought at most subway stations. You will pay a 20RMB deposit plus whatever stored value you choose. You can add more value at any time. You need one card per person. You can use the card to pay for the Airport Express and buses. You get a discount on buses when using the card. At the end of your stay in Beijing, you can return the card and get back your deposit and whatever your balance is. Not all subway stations can refund you but it is possible at the airport.

Getting A Chinese Transit VISA | 15 Hour stop over in Beijing, CHINA (on the way to Japan)
For more information about getting a Chinese Transit Visa:
In March 2019 we travelled to Japan with our friend Gaby. The flight from Canada to Tokyo Japan had a 15 hour stop over in Beijing China, so we decided to try and get a transit VISA on arrival, and leave the Beijing airport to see what we could do in this time frame.
Firstly, before we left I did a lot of research about other people's experience getting the 24 hour transit VISA on arrival in Beijing, and I found the information inconsistent and frankly, terrifying. It was too late, we had book the flight, so we had to make this work.
China offers transit VISA on arrival at many airports including: Guangdong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Shanghai, Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Dalian, Shenyang, Chengdu, Wuhan, Qingdao, Kunming and Xiamen. (Hainan is completely visa free)

In this Chinese Street Food tour video, I'm going to take you on a food street journey to many delicious, mouthwatering street food places around Beijing, AKA Peking, in Northern China. If you're thinking about traveling to China for the street food, make sure to come visit Beijing. You can enjoy unique Chinese street foods hidden in Beijing's Hutong Alleyways and try some classic Chinese cuisine favorites like Peking duck AKA Beijing duck, Jian bing ( 煎饼) AKA Chinese crepes, and a ton of other hidden specialties.
In the past 3 years, I've shot and eaten street food around China, including locations like Chengdu, Lanzhou, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Beijing, Wuhan, Leshan, Shanghai, and Xinjiang's Silk Road. So far, the street food in each of these locations has been the best street food around the world!
Chinese cuisine is so fantastic, it would really take a lifetime to eat all of it. I consider myself super lucky and fortunate to be able to live in Chengdu, Sichuan, China, eating Sichuan food and sampling food across the whole country whenever I get the chance. I've decided to stay living in China for another year or two or even more, shooting delicious street food in china for you and across asia as well!
Here are the addresses and locations and restaurant names for the Chinese street food I had in this Beijing travel video. Most locations were deep in Beijing's Hutong alleyways!

Beijing 4K - Drive on East 3rd Ring Road - Beijing - China 中国北京东三环行车视频
This video is taken alone the EAST 3RD RING ROAD, from GUOMAOQIAO to SANYUANQIAO, from south to north direction.
The 3rd Ring Road is a 48-kilometre city ring road that encircles the centre of the city of Beijing.
When Beijing first became the capital of the People's Republic of China, the road existed only in segments encircling the northern, eastern, and southern parts of the city. At the time, it was known as Beihuan (North Ring), Donghuan (East Ring), and Nanhuan (South Ring). The 3rd Ring Road was finally finished in 1994 with the completion of the western segment. There are 52 flyovers, including Sanyuanqiao, which links it to the Airport Expressway. The speed limit is a uniform 80 km/h.
The ring road runs through the busy CBD section in the east through Panjiayuan and Fenzhongsi, linking up with the Jingjintang Expressway. It continues south toward Muxiyuan and Yuquanying, linking up with the Jingkai Expressway. It then proceeds west, linking up with the Jingshi Expressway before running into the western segment, which is linked with the Wukesong residential area, TV broadcasting centres, and, in the northwest, Zhongguancun IT zone. The northern segment is equally busy, running through Beitaipingzhuang, with links to the Badaling Expressway and the Jingcheng Expressway.
Driving On The Beijing–Hong Kong–Macau Expressway. Self-driving! Road Trip! Driving Trip In China.
The Beijing–Hong Kong–Macau Expressway (also known as G4) is a 2,272.65-kilometre-long expressway (1,412.16 mi) that connects the Chinese cities of Beijing and Shenzhen, in Guangdong province, at the border with Hong Kong. The expressway terminates at the Huanggang Port Control Point in Shenzhen, opposite the Lok Ma Chau border control point in Hong Kong. The connection to Zhuhai at the Macau border is made using the spur line G4W Guangzhou–Macau Expressway, which branches off from the main line in Guangzhou. When the expressway was completed in October 2004, it was China's first completed north-south expressway route.
This video recorded only a part of G4 in Henan Province.
