UK: TOPSHAM: QUEEN ELIZABETH VISITS WEST COUNTRY PUB
English/Nat
Britain's Queen Elizabeth has made what is thought to be her first official visit to a
pub.
She joined regulars at the Bridge Inn in the village of Topsham in the South West of England.
She was given a special bottle of beer - but didn't stay for a drink.
Dressed in a royal blue suit, the Queen was welcomed to the Bridge Inn by the landlady Caroline Cheffers-Heard - one of four generations of the same family to run the picturesque pub.
After being given a quick look round the inn, she was presented with a special commemorative bottle of beer.
The pub's landlord was delighted to have had a royal visitor - but appeared to be a bit lost for words.
SOUNDBITE: (English
I am hoping it went very well. I hope. She was very nice.
Reporters questions: What did you say to her?
Answer: Errrr - I can't remember - ha ha ha.
SUPER CAPTION: Norman Cheffers-Heard, Landlord of the Bridge Inn
The beer that the Queen was given is an ale which has been specially bottled to mark the 101st anniversary of the Cheffers-Heard family's involvement with the pub
Bridge Inn - like many country pubs - is at the centre of village life in Topsham in the rural county of Devon in south west England.

City in England
Exeter is an ancient city on the River Exe in southwest England. Dating back to the Roman era, the Exeter City Walls surround its center and Gothic Exeter Cathedral.
Exeter Castle, a Norman landmark, overlooks leafy Northernhay and Rougemont Gardens. To their west, the Royal Albert Memorial Museum & Art Gallery (RAMM) displays fine art and costumes. The vaulted, medieval Underground Passages snake beneath the city.

City Of Exeter Tour: St. Martins Church And The Ship Inn
St. Martins Church Cathedral Yard, is the second 1,000 year old church in the heart of the city of Exeter.
Adjacent to the church is St Martins Lane, here you will find The Ship Inn. The Inn has been claimed to be the watering hole of Sir Francis Drake, although many think this is just a marketing ploy.

Depeche Mode (Modepeche) Live, 1982-02-27 Bridge House, London, England, UK
Depeche Mode played secretly on this date under the alias Modepeche to help support the Bridge House. DM had played many gigs at the Bridge House during their early years. Despite the success of the concert, the Bridge House closed later that year in 1982.
Terry said a similar thing to Trevor Baker:
It was unbelievable the number of people [in the pub] at one o'clock in the afternoon. I had to sling them out so I could get them to pay to come back in later. It was bedlam. There was a grand or two grand [of money from the door]. It was well over a thousand pounds and they said, 'No, no, you keep it. Keep the pub open. It was a great gig!' It was very nice of them because they weren't rich at all, they were still penniless!
The so called master tape was bought by Vince on July 1, 2010 from a UK guy who was selling some CDRs on eBay. He probably sold 10 to 20 CDRs, but I'm pretty sure that no one discovered the real value of the tape, which was mostly unsurfaced. A fake tape (using the audience recording of the gig from Le Palais, Paris, April 2, 1982) was also available on trading circles but this tape was the real deal.

The River Ouse Floods in the City of York, North Yorkshire, UK - 25th November, 2012
Footage taken on the night of the 25th of November, 2012, as the River Ouse burst its banks in York City Centre, leaving low lying riverside areas flooded. This footage was filmed on an iPhone 5, so there is no use of a zoom, and the footage is quite dark in places. The footage is taken from the Ouse Bridge towards the Kings Arms pub, then from the Kings Arms pub and then at the bottom of King Street and Cumberland Street. The filming ends at Lendal Bridge, where the York River Boats are moored, one of them is half out of the water.

Places to see in ( Ottery St Mary - UK )
Places to see in ( Ottery St Mary - UK )
Ottery St Mary, known as Ottery, is a town and civil parish in the East Devon district of Devon, England, on the River Otter, about 10 miles east of Exeter on the B3174. At the 2001 census, the parish, which includes the villages of West Hill, Metcombe, Fairmile, Alfington, Tipton St John and Wiggaton, had a population of 7,692. The population of the urban area alone at the 2011 census was 4,898. There are two electoral wards in Ottery (Rural & Town). The total population of both wards, including the adjacent civil parish of Aylesbeare, at the above census was 9,022. Ottery is first attested in the Domesday Book of 1086, where it appears as 'Otri' and 'Otrei'. 'Oteri Sancte Marie' is first mentioned in 1242. The town takes its name from the River Otter on which it stands, the river taking its name from the animal. The 'St Mary' element refers to the fact that the town belonged to the church of St Mary in Rouen in 1086.
The town was the birthplace of the Romantic poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge, where his father, the Reverend John Coleridge, was a vicar. The diplomat Sir Ernest Satow spent his retirement (1906–29) here at a house called Beaumont, which still stands. Sir Ernest was buried in the churchyard; there is a commemorative plaque to him in the church.
Ottery's notable buildings include the Tumbling Weir and St Mary's church. The town is the site of The King's School, now a comprehensive school, a former grammar school founded in 1545 by Henry VIII, and Ottery St Mary Primary School.
The town as it now stands, comprises of several independent shops, mainly in Mill Street, Silver Street and Yonder Street. An area known as 'The Square', is the heart of Ottery St Mary. There are pubs, restaurants, coffee and tea rooms. Ottery provides services, employment and a wide range of shopping for local residents as well as visitors from nearby villages, towns and often visitors coming from further afield and abroad. Historical Features are within walking distance from parking areas allowing residents and visitors to enjoy both history and shopping together.
Until 1967 the town was served by Ottery St Mary railway station, which was closed under the Beeching Axe. The line ran from Sidmouth Junction on the main line from Exeter to Waterloo to the north of Ottery and to Sidmouth and Exmouth to the south. The line split just south of Tipton St John, near the Bowd Inn. The first line to go was the Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton line, which originally connected to the Exeter line. Subsequently the line from Sidmouth to Sidmouth Junction was closed under Beeching. For many years the path of the railway, with the rails removed, remained in place, with evidence of the railway gates at places such as north of Cadhay Bridge.
