Biography
Marlene Aron was first and foremost an accomplished artist, having known it was her calling since the age of five. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, she studied at Youngstown State, the California College of Arts and Crafts, and in the Netherlands, then taught at both Youngstown State and Penn State. Her art, largely composed of natural materials, along with drawings, watercolors and site-specific installations, has been shown in galleries throughout the United States as well as in Europe and is included in the permanent collection at the Butler Institute of American Art. For Marlene, her art was a very personal meditative process.
In addition to her art, Marlene’s poetry was published in many books and magazines. Well known in the community for her efforts as a peace activist, Marlene was a strong supporter of local artists and musicians, and served on the board of the Noe Valley Music Series, now SF Live Arts, for over 30 years.
Marlene loved to teach art, and through her lectures, educated many hundreds of people on the subjects of women artists, the Impressionists, and others, her specialty being Vincent Van Gogh, whom she studied for 40 years, lecturing on him for 20 years.
The suddenness of her death was a shock to us all.
Preceding her in passing was that of her brother Robert, with whom she had a close relationship. She is survived by her brother Richard and a large loving family of relatives. Her passing leaves an empty place in many lives. Bless you, dear Marlene and may your light forever shine brightly.

I shot some video footage at the tail end of the '90s around the city of Youngstown, Ohio. Youngstown was a steel making powerhouse up until massive plant closures of the 1970s. The video takes a look at what was left at the time of its shooting. Music is from the Youngstown-based band The Infidels.

Cleveland LaborFest Part 2 of 7 Capitalization - A One Act Play about Worker Solidarity
Capitalization, written by Mark Nowak is a one act play directed by Brian Pedaci and Denise Astorino. The actors from Cleveland Public Theater in order of appearance are, Katie Atkinson, Rose Leininger, and Bob Goddard.
This event took place on 2/23/13 at the Cleveland Public Library in the Louis Stokes Wing Auditorium.
The Cleveland LaborFest & Forum was held in conjunction with a Labor & New Deal Art Traveling Exhibit to commemorate the Little Steel Strike of 1937. This exhibit was assembled by the Massillon Museum in association with Youngstown State University. It is on display at the downtown location of the Cleveland Public Library through March 24, 2013. It will then travel to the Massillon Museum for an opening reception on April 13, 2013. Artwork is on loan from the Columbus Museum of Art, the Butler Institute of American Art, the Massillon Museum, and the private collection of Tom Sodders.
The Cleveland LaborFest and traveling art exhibit are in recognition of the working class struggles for industrial unionism and the expansion and strengthening of cultural democracy that took place during the New Deal Era.
This event is funded, in part, by the Ohio Humanities Council and Cuyahoga Arts & Culture.

ART - My American Dream a melting by themeltist 31x 44
See more of my melted crayon art work: themeltist@deviantart, (browse gallery). It was a beautiful, hot, sunny 4th of July here in Newark, N.J. USA! I thought this would be a great time to introduce my art to YouTube! I make my art work by melting Crayola Crayons©. I mix, layer, or build, usually one drop at a time, to create works of art! At first My American Dream looks like a flag or a painting of a flag. It is neither! It is actually a sculpture! The stripes are made from 1/4 pine. They were ripped and mitered. The stripes are mounted at three different levels which repeat several times to give a waving effect. The stars were cut of the same wood on a scroll saw, it's kind of like a sewing machine with a thin blade instead of a needle! Each star had 10 cuts. That's 500 cuts! The stars are also mounted at three different levels which repeat several times. The left group of stars have long right points, pointing to the center stars. The right group of stars have long left points pointing to the center stars. Each star has three points with a red, a white, and a blue drop on them which seem to be blowing in the wind to the right. The tail end of each stripe has red or white drops which also hang to the right. The blue background has star shaped cutouts, which the stars seem to rise out of. If you are in the field of woodworking, you know that making these inside cuts aren't as much fun!! A hole must be drilled through each star, the blade must be removed from the saw, (from the top and the bottom), slipped through the hole in the star, reconnected to the saw, (top and bottom), and carefully make cuts! This is repeated 50 times for 500 more cuts! That's 1,000 pointy cuts! My carpentry skills really came in handy for the making of this melting! I melted Crayola© red and white on the stars and stripes. Cornflower (blue), (one of my favorites), was used to make the background, and red, white and sky blue were used to make the drops. The piece is encased in a six inch deep oak frame. A plexiglass front keeps it clean and safe!!! .......... I am proud to say that My American Dream has been chosen to be exhibited at The Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown Ohio, as part of their National Midyear Show!!! The show opened on June 26, 2011 and will close on August 28,2011. Thank you Mr. Gary T. Erbe, renowned painter, historian, curator, and juror, for choosing my art work! 100 artists from throughout the USA were chosen to take part in this colorful exhibition in the beautiful Butler Institute of American Art!!! Feel free to visit!!! peace themeltist2011 (excerpt (loop) of I melt with you by modern english)
