Urban Exploration: Abandoned Homes of the Smoky Mountains
Included in the video are shots of me and my brother exploring houses that we found along the Jake's Creek Trail and Elkmont Campground in the Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee.
Located next to the former logging town of Elkmont (where the Elkmont Campground now stands), this old “ghost town” had its start as the” Appalachian Club” vacation community. The land was once owned by the Little River Lumber Company. Around 1910, the company beganElkmont Appalachian Club selling the land to individuals, mainly hunting and fishing enthusiasts, for the purpose of creating a private social club. The Appalachian clubhouse itself was used as a lodge but within a few years many members began building their own vacation cottages. In 1912, the Wonderland Park Hotel, a 50-room resort lodge was also constructed nearby.
However, with membership in the Appalachian Club becoming more difficult to obtain, in 1919, a group of Knoxville businessmen purchased the Wonderland Hotel and created the “Wonderland Club”. Around 10 or more cottages were also constructed on the hill near the hotel. The Appalachian Club and the Wonderland Club became favorite vacation spots for wealthy east Tennessee families to come and socialize and escape the summer heat.
Elkmont soon became home to the birth of the national park movement. In 1920, soon after a visit to Yellowstone, Willis P. Davis, a cottage owner at Elkmont, began to suggest the idea of a national park in the Smokies. Another Elkmont land owner, David C. Chapman, soon took up the cause and helped advance it. Realizing the benefits of a national park, several influential Knoxville businessmen began lobbying federal and state governments.
The U.S. government eventually agreed to establish the national park if the states of Tennessee and North Carolina purchased the land. Once again, the Knoxville businessmen strongly lobbied the Tennessee State legislature and in 1925, Chapman hosted a group of the legislators at Elkmont in order to help convince them of the plan. The following year Colonel Wilson B. Townsend, the founder of the Little River Lumber Company, made the initial sale of 76,000 acres. While most everyone else within the park boundaries were forced to sell their properties and relocate, the Elkmont cottage owners were able to sell their cottages at half price in exchange for lifetime leases.
Most of the leases for the cottages and the Wonderland Hotel expired in 1992, with two more expiring in 2001. Upon expiration ownership of the properties reverted back to the National Park Service and in 1982 the park called for all structures to be removed and to allow the area to return to its natural state. In 1994, however, the Wonderland Hotel and many of the cottages were placed on the National Register of Historic Places which protected them from being destroyed, so a debate raged on what to do with the structures.
In 2005, the Wonderland Hotel collapsed and in 2009 the National Park Service announced the intention of restoring the Appalachian Clubhouse and 18 cottages in the Appalachian Club section. 17 of the 19 structures to be. Elkmont in the Great Smoky Mountains renovated are located in what was known as the “Daisy Town” section of the Appalachian Club. The other two structures to be preserved are located in the “Millionaire’s Row” and “Society Hill” sections of the Appalachian Club. All other buildings are to be documented and removed.

5 - Werewolf Caught on CCTV Camera
This photo was taken in a Brazilian street and it claims to show a real life werewolf that was caught on tape by a security camera. The creature seen in the image is a tall hairy beast that people online have claimed to be a werewolf. You can even see a wolf-like tail protruding out of the backside of the mysterious creature. The legs are also bent in an animal-like way.
4 - Werewolf Caught in Brazilian Garden
Brazil seems to be a hotspot of many werewolf sightings. You only have they been captured by security cameras in the streets, but also people's’ backyards. This video was taken at night and claims to show a five foot tall hairy, black creature running through a man’s backyard.
3 - Werewolf Found Dead In River
These photographs were taken by hunters in an unknown location. They were walking beside a river when they found this strange creature laying on it’s back. The creature has all the features of a wolf, however it is quite humanoid in appearance. This has prompted many to believe this shows a real life werewolf.
2 - Werewolf Body Discovered
As if two werewolf sightings in Brazil were not enough, we now look at another one. This time, it was discovered by locals. Among the local citizens who found the creature, some think their government is hiding the existence of more similar creatures.
1 - Werewolf in Basement
We found this image online that appears to show a werewolf at the bottom of someone’s stairs. Aside from the fact that it’s creepy, we have found almost no other information regarding the picture. Does it show a real werewolf caught on camera? Well, real or fake, there is doubt that the photo is a scary one.

Bodycam Shows Moment Deputy Suffers Panic Attack While Armed
** (Disclaimer: Video posted strictly for educational and information purposes only) **
According to a Sevier County Sheriff's Office incident report, a deputy responded to an unknown situation on Dec. 31, 2016, in Sevierville that ended in his transportation to the hospital after firing seven rounds at a male suspect and experiencing what detectives reported as a possible cardiac event. Upon arriving at the scene on Sharp Road, the deputy said he made contact with an EMT who advised he needed assistance with a morbidly obese female who fell in the floor inside of a small camper on the property. The woman had apparently told the EMT she had experienced abuse from the landlord, Robin Sutton, and that she would most likely need law enforcement investigation into the matter. The woman told the deputy she did not know what day or time it was, or how long she had been on the floor. She said she had been previously evicted from a different residence and had agreed with the landlord to rent a small camper space on the property from Sutton.
The woman told the deputy she had previously fallen several times, and when she fell, Sutton and her daughter had taken her phone and charging cord so that she could not call for help. She said Sutton and her daughter had taken her purse, which contained her identification, bank card, pain medications and other items. As the woman was describing the theft, the deputy reported he saw a female subject who was later identified as Tina Cody. The deputy said the subject was climbing through the fence and preparing to flee on foot. The deputy ordered her not to run and to stop where she was, but he said Cody refused and ran through the field towards Sharp Road. The deputy reported he then notified dispatchers he was in foot pursuit of a female subject who was running through the field and that he suspected her of having a warrant out that was not related to the current incident. When the deputy encountered Cody at the end of the field where it met Sharp Road, he ordered her to put her hands up and walk to him so that he could handcuff her. At that time, a male EMT helped the deputy apprehend Cody. The deputy's body camera footage shows Cody restrained on the ground when the deputy asked her why she had been running, to which she answered her mother had told her to.
The deputy said while the EMT helped him detain Cody, he heard a male voice coming from a short distance behind him yell, I've got a gun, motherf*****! The deputy reported he turned and noticed a white male suspect, who was later identified as Tina Cody's boyfriend Brian Mullinax. The deputy said Mullinax was pacing wildly on the porch of a nearby trailer before squatting and aiming an object at the deputy that appeared to be a firearm in his hand. The deputy said he immediately fired his gun seven times in defense of my life, the EMT, and the apprehended subject. The deputy reported he notified dispatchers and his supervisor that shots were fired and he needed help because he had identified the male subject as having a firearm. Shortly after he called dispatch, the deputy said the subject dropped the object and put his hands in the air before exiting the porch and lying on the ground until responding units arrived and took him into custody. Detective's notes on the incident report indicated the deputy was taken to the hospital with injuries and may have suffered some type of cardiac event as a result of this assault by both male and female.

One year ago, today, I almost died. Here is the video of the incident.
I'm primarily posting this in an attempt to help others learn from my mistakes. This is a reminder to be safe, pay attention and KNOW THE ROAD before you try to enjoy it. I failed on all 3 of those accounts and it nearly cost me my life.
I wrote my story below, a day after the accident happened while I still remembered everything that happened. It was mainly for myself, but I decided to share it on facebook, and now here. A year later, and I have more than learned my lesson and realized my mistakes. I of course take full responsibility for my mistakes and realize it could have been worse.
Here is the full story pasted here: since YouTube's character limit unfortunately doesn't allow me to post the full thing.
Shortened story below:
Sunday, Jan 4, 2015, I received a second chance at life.
What happened? To put it simply, I was going faster than I should have been and got distracted at the one moment that required 110% focus on an unfamiliar road.
As an auto enthusiast, when you have a nice somewhat fast modified car with a loud exhaust you tend to like tunnels. They make your exhaust sound that much better, sort of like singing in the shower… Well, I found myself accelerating through this nice long and dark pair of tunnels; I had done this many times before in other tunnels. At the exit, I could barely see because it was so bright, a person standing and holding something while motioning. Wondering what they were doing, I stared, and stared, reaching the top of 4th gear, all while trying to comprehend what they were trying to tell me. Then I figured it out. They were telling me to slow down and watch the curve ahead, but it was too late. When I think about it now, I don’t ever remember seeing the road ahead until I was nearly out of the tunnel. In my mind I had assumed that it just went straight. At that point I was exiting the tunnel straight as the road curved to the left. I had no time to slam on my brakes beforehand. Realizing I was going way too fast for that section, I applied the brakes softly in an effort to keep the back end from sliding out, but, combined with a bump and rough switch in surface texture from concrete to asphalt, I lost traction. I began sliding to the left, the car oversteering, rotating counter-clockwise, over the center marker. I counter-steered, turning the steering wheel all the way to the right, but kept sliding to the left into the turnout. It was at this moment I knew, I had fucked up.
I slammed into a berm and expected to come to a complete stop, but the terrifying journey wasn’t over. I went over the edge. It happened so fast all I can remember is everything crashing and spinning. I thought I was rolling over down the side of the mountain. I was confident I was going to land upside down and get crushed. I was on the world's worst roller coaster that could only end with death, or so I thought. I came to a stop, still yelling, not fully comprehending what just happened, or how far down the mountain I was and that I actually just crashed my car. Luckily for me, I landed on a rock wall that was part of a drainage pipe that went through the mountain. It was the only horizontally level piece on an extremely steep sloped hill. Had I spun off a few feet before or after, I’d be dead.
I never thought that I would be one of the guys that wrecks his car in the canyons. I’m not even close to being a pro driver, but, at least before the accident I took just slight pride in my situational awareness while driving, my somewhat decent understanding of vehicle dynamics and how various driver inputs affect a vehicle in motion, my autocross and canyon experience, and the fact that I haven’t gotten any tickets or into any accidents since I got my license (for what it's worth). I messed up. I got too comfortable at the wrong moment and it got the best of me. It shows that things like this can happen to mostly anyone. The whole cruise up there was relaxed, leisurely, until that moment. I definitely wasn’t purposely trying to take that corner fast, I was caught up in the moment flying through those long tunnels, got distracted, and didn’t see the road ahead of me. I panicked last minute and that ultimately lead to this entire situation. I’m disappointed in myself, and I know some others may be disappointed in me as well. And I know it could have been worse in so many ways, and I’m kicking myself for that. But ultimately I’m glad to be alive and well and that I did not involve others in the wreck.

Why no aquarium has a great white shark
Many have tried to keep a white shark in captivity. Here's why that's so difficult.
There are several aquariums around the world, including one in Georgia, that house whale sharks, the biggest fish in the sea. But not one has a great white shark on display.
Aquariums have made dozens of attempts since the 1970s to display a captive great white shark. Most of those attempts ended with dead sharks.
By the 2000s, the only group still trying was the Monterey Bay Aquarium, which spent a decade planning its white shark program. In 2004, it acquired a shark that became the first great white to survive in captivity for more than 16 days. In fact, it was on display for more than six months before it was released back into the ocean.
In the following years, the Monterey Bay Aquarium hosted five more juvenile white sharks for temporary stays before ending the program in 2011. It was an expensive effort and had come under criticism due to injuries that some of the sharks developed in the tank.
Responding to those critics, Jon Hoech, the aquarium's director of husbandry operations, said: We believe strongly that putting people face to face with live animals like this is very significant in inspiring ocean conservation and connecting people to the ocean environment. We feel like white sharks face a significant threats out in the wild and our ability to bring awareness to that is significant in terms of encouraging people to become ocean stewards.
Check out the video above to learn why white sharks are so difficult to keep in captivity and how the Monterey Bay Aquarium designed a program that could keep them alive.

Ep. 513 Taking Georgia's Slow Lane - Tennessee Valley Uncharted
Erick makes a trip to Georgia to see what its northern region has to offer. First he visits Helen, a town that looks more like Germany than the Southern United States. There he meets up with local photographer Jordan Tribble, and they take part in the food, drink, and dancing of Helen’s Oktoberfest. Then, it’s off to Dahlonega to wander the scenic vineyards of Frogtown Cellars. Erick talks and drinks with the owner, and he is amazed to learn how the South can produce some of the most delicious and award-winning wines. The beautiful landscapes and relaxation continue as he kayaks on the Toccoa with TVA’s Amy Blankenship. As he floats on the water with nothing but nature around him, Erick quickly finds out why this section of the river is Amy’s all-time favorite. He then discovers another hidden treasure (in the most literal sense of the term) when he explores the tunnels of Consolidated Gold Mine. Not only does he get a sense of how miners here used to do their work, but he also gets to pan for gold! Last is a stop at Mercier Orchards, a family-run orchard that produces over 50 varieties of apples. During conversations, treats, and cider with the marketing coordinator and the orchard manager, Erick is reminded of the importance of slowing down to enjoy life’s little moments.
